17:28 has flashing images! Be warned!
We hit 1M views today! (21/11/2023)
Thank you so much! This is something I did not expect when this video was uploaded over nine years ago.
Now for a few things I wanna clear up.
    - .flow full soundtrack won't be uploaded here because its creator has already done that not long ago on their youtube channel.
    - As you may know, Yume 2kki isn't a finished product yet. It receives many updates still to this day, so a full soundtrack upload, in a similar fashion like this video, isn't possible. However there are ambient compilations out there you can check them out. Really good stuff.
That's all. As always peeps, enjoy!

I do like interpretation that the entire time she's been dreaming, and the ending is the first time she ever truly wakes up. Gives more of a hopeful message. It is also a bit odd that performing specific actions in a dream and writing them in a dairy magically makes a stepladder appear on your balcony....and how she literally cannot open the door "in real life."

but its 'jumpscare' is less obvious than any other games. jumpscares in other games, for example, ghosts or monsters appear suddenly and expandingly.. in front of your face and attack you, with creepy scream. but UBOA didn't attack you or chase you or shout at you. the Yume nikki is very symbolic, cannot be expected. and these make player scared. its manner of making scary differ from all the other jumpscares horror games.

This game and it's soundtrack make my fucking soul wrench.
As a person absolutely obsessed with escapism, it's a very sad experience. Another commenter here said,
"It is tragic to think that, no matter how much she searches her dream world, there won’t be a happy ending.
Introspection might solve inner crises, but escapism won’t."
And honestly, it's scary to me. Escapism and things like RP are the only things that have made me genuinely happy in my life. It was the only way to release from the abuse of my childhood, the only way to escape awful people at school (and now, work, as an adult), and just my own apathy. It's easier to live and love when I'm acting as another, better person or being.
When I put myself in the shoes of another character, or try to lose myself in a lucid dream, those are the only times I feel safe, I feel content, I feel calm.... but is it even worth trying? It's not real. Ultimately, would I just be better off acting on my suicidial impulses and trying to find another world in the beyond? I don't know.
I'm scared to die. But I'm also scared to miss out on experiences in my life that might make all the escaping worth it. I'm scared to abandon all the stories and voices in my mind that keep me sane. I'm scared of losing all of the people who helped me escape, who finally made me feel something.
I just hope that the cold takes all of that away.

    • @TreasureHiding89
      @TreasureHiding89 3 місяці тому +6

I agree with you completely this game has seriously became my main coping mechanism with everything
A year ago I don't know exactly why but I thought I was going to seriously die and I got hit with such a dreadful feeling. If I did die my parents, sisters and old friends would never see me grow into a person that i wanted to be and that people liked and accepted
Growing up I was surrounded by people who always seen me as weird or bad even as a little kid my friends always made me out to be someone who was completely incompetent. They wouldn't let me use their things, hang out with their other friend groups and things like that
In middle school I was a lot more self conscious and calmer but that still always stuck with me and people just started not wanting anything to do with me even though I changed and even besides all that throughout middle school I was beat up, harrassed and sexually harmed
It's terrible. It's caused me to lash out at people for no reason even though now being in highschool I feel like I'm a complety normal person but still I feel like I can't trust anyone and I always shut my family away and I only feel comfortable when I'm alone and isolated
I've been trying to fix myself and start taking care of myself more so I can be the person I've always wanted to be and In a few years I hope I can have friends and people I trust and I can give my love to but I'm scared that ill always end up being alone
Please don't kill yourself. I truly hope there's a light at the end of your tunnel and I hope there is for me too

Yume Nikki is such an interesting game. So many small details, so much story. It’s amazing how Kikiyama managed to do this completely without text, and only through symbolism. The art and designs are really unique. It’s almost like one of those pieces of abstract art made into a game. The soundtrack is also beautiful, the tiny loops fit perfectly with the theme of the game, and it’s almost like they’re meant to make the player lose track of time. One of my favorite games, for sure. Thanks for uploading, I love this.

500k views today on 6/7/2021. (Sixth of July, I'm from Europe)
Editing this video was quite tedious for me at the time, so I'm glad it worked out in the end.
Though, at the time, I thought this would get at least about 60k views max since the soundtrack was already uploaded on youtube. Just not in a compilation like this one.
Regardless, I'm happy that people get to listen to this for various reasons, such as sleeping, stress relief, nostalgia or just casual enjoyment.

I love this game! Like, say...the Mother series, or Silent Hill, it's the *atmosphere* that really gives this game its identity. The soundtrack is beautiful in the way that it manages to create the appropriate dreamlike feeling whilst adding a dark and sometimes lonely tone...without feeling too depressing, either. Wonderful music.

I don't have words to explain how much I adore and admire this game. It's a life-changing experience for sure! When you're by yourself alone in the dark, exploring all those different words that could've many (or no) meaning at all, it gives you goosebumps! By far one of the best game I've ever played in my life.
When I found this game many years ago, I quickly tried to search information about its creator and when I found out they're alive, I immediately felt peace. I know I'll probably never meet this person in real life, let alone get some merch made by them, but I hope they''re feeling loved. I really wish for Kikiyama's happiness. I know I probably sound corny as heck, but that's how I feel about this game. lol

No music screams "alone" consistently across all tracks like Yumme Nikki's OST. Devoid of the visuals and game itself and listening just to the music, you can feel like you're walking alone on a dark road at night with the occasional light illuminating your path, like you're in your room when everyone is asleep, like you're in your dreams but it's just a space of pretty abstract colours, like you're walking alone in a desert, its endless. Might be how the instruments/notes that linger long after they were played, the reverb, the soft-yet-metallic, sometimes mechanical/electrical choice of instruments. Even the lighter Rave/Dance like soundtracks make you feel alone too, it's like youre in a party but it's just you. Either everyone's left or no one arrived in the first place... but you're still having fun, you don't care. It's all very distinct, the soundtrack
Eerie or unnerving to some definitely, comforting to others or perhaps under circumstances (speaking about the latter as someone who tends to feel a sense of calm whenever I'm presented with an environment or situation that makes me feel truly alone). Regardless, it makes up for a fitting soundtrack to a rather sombre game, contextually speaking

I love this game so much. It's my favorite game. Just the music, how it drones your thoughts out with its 5-second loops. The visuals, freaky, but at the same time unique and varying. But I think the main reason I love this game so much is because of how much story and how many messages are told using absolutely no dialogue. That's something that takes real skill to get right, and I'm yet to see a game that does this better than Yume Nikki. Just the way Kikiyama brings it all together is just amazing. This game deserves more praise.

Okay, I know there’s like thousands of theories and shi, but I just got done w the game and haven’t read them all. But so far this is my whole interpretation of the story.
Madotsuki, we don’t know much about the character themselves at all?? We only know their name, but we don’t have her age nor any description of her.
We can interpret judging by her character that she’s young, at the very least 18-16
Or atleast what I’ve interpreted, throughout the game, every time we go to sleep we spawn in the balcony, alerting us that we are now in the dream world, and that’s where we also see her jump off the balcony.
The first thing when I saw this was genuine confusion, because we were already in a dream and after we are spawned back in the balcony part it’s as if we are still in our dream state.
So maybe, Madotsuki has been in a coma perhaps or a great case of isolation that she could no longer tell the difference between reality and dreams, and to her, the dream world was quite literally a living hell and she could’ve been confused on maybe that it was still a dream and the only way she could escape this endless loop was to kill herself in that dream.
Throughout the very concerning dream worlds we go through and experience, Madotsuki never ever dies, no matter how terrifying or disturbing the dream may be, she never gets killed or anything like that, she simply pinches her cheek and returns back.
So perhaps she thought that the only way to end this terrifying loop was to just kill herself,
Please bear w me I’m still Tryna figure everything out but that’s my interpretation for now

Yume Nikki feels in part like an exploration of the alienation and inner loneliness that comes with being an individual. The hikkikomori is an extreme case, but I think every person is in the same boat. Everybody’s head is full of bizarre shit that could only make sense to them. Especially the types to play foreign RPG maker art games... ;)

to be honest, the saving theme's song really makes me think that it was a song composed to comfort Madotsuki about what she went through (if its hypothetical that her whole dream was memories of her bad experiences)
