I too have lived in both Europe and the United States. I heard the term in New York, years before living in Europe. That being said, I am perfectly willing to let the English have full credit for contributing this linguist gem to the world wide English lexicon. Take it with my blessing.
Pubs also tend to be more community orientated than Bars. You'll find in some you'll have Pub teams for games like Pool, Darts and Dominoes or Football. Many of these games will be available in a separate room away from the food side which will often allow people to come in for a pint or 6 in more blue collar attire. It's usually known as a tap room.
OMG I loved this video, making my bff to watch it right now, I am going in March to celebrate my 40th birthday with some of my best friends and we have no idea where to go, but this is super helpful, I want to find the perfect place, good vibe, drinks, great food and hopefully good music? Thank you for the awesome video!
It's a pity that great nightclubs like Equinox, Hippodrome and Limelight and Hombres no longer exist. And generally speaking nightclubs have greatly declined.

Hi, Jess, very useful, you've never been to those clubs, I've never heard of them but then I'm not a club person. Looking forward to another very useful video soon.
Gay pubs and clubs are all basically around Old Compton Street in Soho. I recommend starting at Compton’s, it may become your local. 🏳️🌈⭐️❤️ And pubs are friendly to all genders and orientations, ages and sizes, and origins. So don’t be shy to mix.
Watching this in my hostel right now!!! Saw aton of things already, thank you Jenn truly. I've been watching for about 8 months now, and truly this trip is great because of you!!!
Thank you Jess!!! I'm going to London in a week, I want to go have fun since I'm in college now. I've loved all your videos, been watching for a year, but this one came out just in time! :)
Born and bred Londoner** Always dress smart going to bars and clubs - usually shirts for men and dresses for ladies. List of top clubs I personally know of (high end and hip hop): Libertine, Tape and Dstrkt. For men, best off trying to get a table as London is the worst for not getting into places.
I would recommend a couple of gay bars in Soho, more suited for middle aged gay men, though everyone is welcome - Compton's and Admiral Duncan. Both are on Old Compton Street, between Wardour Street and Dean Street.
Did you say Egg was amongst the top clubs? 😄 .. I love going to Egg after I’ve been to a nice club/lounge bcuz it’s just the opposite of that lol ..which adds variety to my event/night. I once stayed till 10 am there. My drink was spiked with something and I ended up dancing for 4hrs straight. Not the best club, but definitely an experience. Oh, and don’t be startled by the blatant amount of drugs being passed around there. I love London, so definitely loving your channel too. New sub :) Thank you and Keep up the great work⭐️
Very nice videos, I have been watching a bunch today..I guess I am missing a bit London where I lived 6 months last year...anyway I hope I can use all the info for when I visit it again
Bar Soho was one of my all time favourite bars, not anymore. Just have a look on trip adviser. It there are bars all over central London that offer 50% off all drinks between 5/8pm and sometimes 5/9pm.
@@loveandlondon one of the cheapest, it's my stomping ground. Sadly the staff there have also gone down holl on the past few years, quite rude . Just have a look.on trip advisor and you will see the comments, there are better alternatives to this bar , better staff and still cheaper drinks with a real good vibe. Simmons cocktail bar, dirty martini is a 5 minute walk, roadhouse is great and has a £10 happy hour bottle of wine. And I can name a few more. You should go out with me and my friends.
Hi Jess, can you do a video about visiting the Stonehenge, bath, and Windsor? What’s the best way to get there from London? How much are the tours? Best time to see it? When to fit it in the itinerary?
Hi Emily, I just replied to your Instagram DM. I don't recommend going to Stonehenge, and I especially don't recommend one of the tours that go to a million places in one day. Instead, pick one city, and take the train there yourself.
Next Year I will be in London with my class. Me and my two friends would like to go out some day. The Problem is one of my friend is 17 years old. Is it allowed to Go in clubs When you Are with people who Are 18 ? Because in Germany you can Go clubbing with 16 if you have an older person who Takes care of you. And Are they strict or Are their Some clubs where she can easily Come with us?
Great vid, very useful for visitors. Also, kittys are popular as an alternative to buying rounds. Everyone chucks in, say 10, 15 or 20 quid into a pot, topping up as required. 😊
Hi jess! Totally random, but could you help out with things to keep in mind when renting a car in London? For example : rules, parking system, dos and donts. And recommendation on car renting services. Thank you!
I would be very happy if you would make a video where you say where to go to find real londoners/english people, no tourists at all. If i visit a new country i would like to catch the real feeling of the country, to its core, not to see tourists 😍
The pubs are great, beautiful architecture, often a great atmosphere, real part of culture. However they mostly do close so early, 11pm-Midnight is pretty standard, sometimes there might be few open till 1am on weekends. However coming from Toronto, Canada it seemed odd that on a beautiful summer mid week busy night or even on a Friday, id be in central London wandering the streets at midnight after getting kicked out of a pub amongst thousands of people trying to find a drink that is not at a club. Often with no success. Clubs can be fun, but only once in a while. I never managed to adjust to the earlier hours of pubs even after living in London for a few years. It's like instead of going out with friends in Canada or USA as for that matter at 10pm or 11pm I'd need to meet with friends at 6pm-7pm in London. If you showed up at 10pm you had to rush to down your pints to catch up before closing time. It was just a change I found difficult, Lol.
‘S***faced’! You’re definitely a true Londoner Jess! 😂
Not actually. That term is also common on much of the East Coast of the US.
I too have lived in both Europe and the United States. I heard the term in New York, years before living in Europe. That being said, I am perfectly willing to let the English have full credit for contributing this linguist gem to the world wide English lexicon. Take it with my blessing.
We say it in NY too :)
Actually, "S***faced comes from the East Coast of the U.S. as well and she is from New York.

What's the difference between a bar and a club, since both have drinks, music and dancing? 🤔
