My wife is Guyanese...I love hearing her speak creole when she talks to her family on the phone. The people and the country is beautiful. I've visited New Amsterdam and Georgetown.
I was a British soldier in 1964 and was posted to Guyana (Then British Guiana) to quell the trouble. The people were great to us. The country is beautiful. I always wondered why they don't do more tourism.
There is a lot more than just tourism that can be improve but the government system here are seeing the benefits....they are mostly looking to improve themselves...with that said it is not a hard life here .
Forget the politics. The people of Guyana are its most beautiful asset. The next best thing is our food. Arguably the best in the Caribbean. Pepperpot, metagee, curry, roti, chowmein, saltfish n bake, etc. Full disclosure, I am Guyanese, so I may be prejudiced.. We are a relatively poor nation, fallen prey to a declining sugar, rice and bauxite industry and hopeful that recently discovered oil, will bring in some much needed money to build and develop our country. We are a proud people and I think that because we are a small in size and population, it really means so much more. Go to NY Queens, Brooklyn and Toronto in the summer and every weekend you will see Guyanese village reunions in parks all over the Burroughs of NY and outskirts of Toronto. Almost every Guyanese village have reunions. Most of it is an excuse to get together, drink beer and party. I say that it is unique, because you do not see Jamaicans and Trinibagans (the 2 other major Caribbean expats) having village reunions on the same scale. We are one people, one nation and we have one destiny.
Thats OK everyone thinks their homeland is the best so I won't argue cause I also think mine is the best😍🇯🇲. Anyways am around alot of GTs so I knw alot about the people of Guyana.
U gat my respect, as a guyanese living in the U.S not alot of persons has ever been to our rain forest there's way more 2 experience but u did good with that video 💯🇬🇾
"I'm down to experience new things but... I've just realized how challenging sleeping in the jungle can be." I laughed so hard at this white bread statement. I've spent half my LIFE in the jungle. Use the red lamp setting on your headlamp at night to keep bugs away, too. Light at night also signals danger to the fish. You'll catch more by no light and red light instead of white light. I'm headed back in to the interior country this year to visit my tribal chief friend and his village. I miss it like an Amerindian misses his fish, yucca and monkey meat.
Spent a lot of time in the bush as a prospector and at sea. I NEVER EAT DOLPHIN WHALES OR APES, You gotta respect intelligence even that different than your own. Shipmate of mine was saved by dolphins after his ship went down in a storm.
@DFS54 i agreed with you totally. I am Guyanese and that jungle life is not for me i would not last half a night out there. Kudos to Julia for spending the whole night there especially when she is not accustom to it. Mind you the jungle is beautiful but it can be dangerous too.
@@neutrosis I don't have a definite answer to your question but thank you for showing your interest in visiting. I think you can google Guyana tourism and see what comes up. You can also speak with the flight agencies who are more equipped to divulge information on Tourism in Guyana. This depends on the country you are travelling from. Best wishes on your new ventures there .
I have MANY friends in Guyana, one of whom is a tribal chief on the border of Brazil. I'm headed back to Annai in Toka Rupunnuni Savannah this year. Bug infested for sure.
Great video. I was involved in helping to build some of the benabs at the Surama eco village in 2004. Wonderful time! In terms of opening up tourism, this seems to have expanded but it’s the constant balance between expansion and protection. The state of the road from Georgetown to the interior will always be a hindrance. There was talk of trying to attract Caribbean tourists to see Kaiteur falls and some of the jungle…but this remains limited by requiring flights.
Spent 9 days at Surama.....I really like that place. Use a red filter and you will attract less bugs.....looks like from the river level you were there in dry season.....
Great video. I can't have enough , sadly too short but yes, Guyana is very beautiful country and the people are friendly and hospitable. I will endeavour to visit the Rupununi, Lethem and Mahdia . I love it when the gentleman said they are grateful for nature and proudly protect their hinterland regions. That's great. GOD BLESS GUYANA AND IT'S PEOPLE. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS VIDEO.

There are efforts to promote ecotourism. There are however issues with high costs and only the elite and very wealthy can afford it. High costs are due to infrastructure issues. A transformational amount of oil was discovered by Exxon off the coast of Guyana 10 years ago, and offshore drilling will start soon. Hopefully the corrupt government won't siphon off the trillion USD find and invest it in the long-suffering Guyanese people in healthcare, education and infrastructure.
