Hi Mr Evans. Thank you for all the information but I must I say that it is not fair to keep us waiting so long for new information from someone like you that have the years experience. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to make these videos.

Good to see the man back in the shed again!! :) Had a a horrible fisheye problem recently and figured out that my cheap tack cloth left a sticky residue on the panel when it came in contact with the applied silicon remover. By my experience some of the rocket/speed clears are also more likely to produce fisheyes while on the very same surface the HS clear i'm using does not.Thank you very much for the video, Jason - keep them coming!

Great info i myself have been fighting water problems the amount of water my compressor produces is unreal so new airlines will be bought soon need to sort out a decent set of moisture traps this is for my home setup 14cfm comp 150l tank do you have any suggestions that will point me in the right direction without spending obscene amounts of money

There are lots of different ways to go and it all depends how much painting you are doing, the best way is to look for a used devilbiss or sata 3 way unit on the internet and replace the filter set it will pay for itself. i at home have a 3m set for the jobs that matter and they are closed off for general airline use and only switched on when painting, this is to make the filters last because of cost. however i do have a home made unit which is basically a 4 inch tube 12 inches long welded flange on one end and a bolted flange on the other to change the filter and what i use is kitty litter in a lint free cotton bag which i bought some coffee beans in and this works great, it can be seen on the wall in some of my other videos.

I had the same issue as I'm from sunny and humid Queensland in Australia. Even the smallest amounts of water can ruin clear coat in particular as the water reacts with the hardener to form bubbles of CO₂. On some days here you could practically water the garden with what came out of the air lines. Cooling the air as much as possible using some type of aftercooler before the moisture trap seems to get you 90% of the way there but you can still have problems because as the air leaves the nozzle on your spray gun the drop in pressure causes a further drop in temperature. To remove any more you can use either refrigerated or desiccant drying. If you don't need super dry air all that often then a DIY desiccant drier using kitty litter or silica gel works well. I've also seen some commercial disposable desiccant filters that go on the bottom of the spray gun itself. They don't hold much desiccant though I don't imagine they would last long in humid environments. I really didn't want to change out desiccant so what I did in the end was found a relatively cheap (AU$150 = about US$120 or £90) second hand refrigerated drier. I felt it was a reasonable price considering there is no filters or desiccant media to change. They are low maintenance (clean a mesh filter in the water drain and blow the dust out of the unit with compressed air occasionally, probably once per year). The air comes out of the dryer is completely dry. I have a final particle filter and coalescing filter after the dryer and never see any water in those traps.

Thanks Tristan for your input you are quite correct, water in your air supply is caused by what we call the due point, the air enters the compressor at one temperature and one moisture level, gets heated up ,compressed and blown out of your spray gun at another temperature and moisture level , if we can try and match all these changes we wont get water in the air supply so a dryer is the best. Modern body shops now use nitrogen for spraying, a screw compressor feeds a purifying and regenerating unit which makes the nitrogen rich air to spray with but mega bucks.

not a good idea, if you have cleaned down the job before doing bodywork and wear gloves you should have nothing to clean off
