Giguere was so good in 2003 that he beat out Brodeur who everyone thought was going to get the Conn Smythe. I know most Devils fans say Brodeur was robbed, but Giguere was just lights out amazing and was THE reason the Ducks went that far.
Brodeur didn't get robbed in 2003. He was half decent in the playoffs against some weak competition, but wasn't a big factor in the team's Stanley Cup win. I said at the time that the Devils probably would have won that Stanley Cup even with backup Corey Schwab in net. I'm also convinced that he played hurt in the finals against Anaheim. He gave up some weak goals to his glove side at critical moments in that series (including the OT game winner in Game 3), and I suspect he was cheating to his right because he had a left leg injury that prevented him from pushing off hard on that skate.
Agreed with the OP as a Devils fan. Giggy absolutely deserved it. To Bryon, I can't say I agree with your take. It seems a bit narrow minded to dismiss 7 shutouts and 3 in the Finals that year (including GM7 SCF...both are records btw) as 'anyone would've won it playing goal for NJD' trope. NJ doesn't even make it past the Ottawa series without Marty, the #1 team in the EC that year. That's not weak competition. He ultimately made the key saves when he had to and had a very strong playoffs. He would've won Smythe if not for Giggy's epic efforts that year.
@@jma.87 Fair enough for some individual games. But keep in mind that the Devils won all four games in the Finals by exactly 3 goals. None of them required a Herculean effort by their goaltender.
@TheDevilsJoint it's all opinion, but it's not to say Marty wasn't deserving. That's for sure. He certainly did that year and was very underrated. That said, Giggy stole a lot of games that playoff run for Anaheim - and with a media driven award it was always going to go to the guy with the most flare for the dramatic. I would've voted for Marty but I'm biased and I honestly can't say Giggy wasn't deserving whether I agree or not with the votes. They both had great playoffs.
@TheDevilsJoint I perfectly understand that, man. Especially as a fellow fan. I was booing as hard as everyone else there when the announcement was made. But I've honestly stopped caring about Conn Smythe's after that year. It's not always accurate and I care a lot more what the players vote on more than the media.
2012 Quick had a better save percentage than if you had put a brick wall
2003 JSG allowed 1 goal in the western conference finals. It was insane
And as a Mild hater, that was a beautiful series to watch. 👌
JS won the CS and he’s 3? C’mon man!
07 Giguere wasn’t too shabby either.
Also cheated for wearing the biggest pads ever worn by a goalie got called out on it several times too
@@mr.devil9577 His pads were legal. Both width and length wise. Source: LA Times, 2003.
2013 Crawford
Miikka Sakari Kiprusoff took the mediocre Flames to Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Finals. I feel he has to be on that list. His numbers were crazy good for a medicore team & he took them all the way to Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Finals. He had .a 928 save percentage, 1.85 Goals Against Average and FIVE shut-outs during that improbable playoff run. I was at Game 7 when the Canucks lost in overtime and couldn't believe he stole that series. The Flames then upset the Red Wings by Kipper outplaying Cujo with 2 shut-outs. Really enjoyed the cool list and the amazing Stanley Cup memories. Only too bad the top 2 goalies stopped my Canucks. I saw both goalies in Vancouver during those years, and they were both playing amazing. I thought Jon Casey might appear on your list or get an honourable mention. I know you had a soft spot for him & the North Stars during that playoff run.
im still haunted by Halak with Montreal 2010. I was stunned after stonewalling PRIME Ovechkin Crosby & Malkin. they lost in the conference finals.
outside Vasilevskiy in 20 & 21 & Carey Price 21 (until the Cup final) it was the most shutdown goaltending ive ever seen.
I was about to post about Halak, haunting performance I agree
yeah, as a pens fan halak still owns real estate in our heads. I swore when the rags signed him last year.
It wasn't just number of saves Halak made in that run... it was also the quality of the saves. Hard to put him on a list like this though since they fell well short of the cup finals, winning only one game against Philly in the conference finals.
That was his prime. Beautiful run
Ridiculous goaltending from anyone I have seen in 40 years watching hockey
As a 25 year old, the best goalie performance I've ever seen is 2012 Jonathan Quick.
Should have seen Giggy. Quick phenomenal for sure but I watched in 03 - different level
I missed 2003. But I became a fan around 1977 and I can’t recall as dominant a performer as Quicks. Perhaps it’s just Giggys. I was reading about Parent and I remember Dryden but in the old days it’s was team dominance more so than just the goalie.
@@joshhardy2860I haven’t seen it but I’m 20 and I agree with thg’s top 2 2012 quick was something I never seen since and I was in 3rd grade. 2011 Thomas I’m a little biased towards cuz I’m a bruins fan but even as a second grader I still remember that run and how he lifted the entire team on his back and forced them to win a cup
Too bad you weren't around in '71 to see this gangly kid fresh out of Cornell University win the Stanley Cup and a Conn Smythe trophy, leaving the Boston Bruins literally shaking their heads in frustration as he stoned them time and time again. I'm speaking, of course, of Ken Dryden. The raw numbers aren't nearly as impressive as many on today's board, but Boston was heavily favoured to win the Cup that year and Dryden changed the odds.
Legendary
How do you not put Mika Kiprusoff on this list, his 04 run is iconic.
The 2012 Kings are the team of this era. Whenever you look back at them they stand out in some way
Shannon, Im no hockey historian, I just love the game. You do such a great job of teaching me so much about hockey history and I appreciate you for it. Keep up the great work.
The Quick run in 2012 was as good as a goalie can play. Period. I watched every game like many, and was blessed to be at the Kings home games and I haven't seen anything close since. He stole almost every period they played. 16 and 4. Wow. Good job Hockey Guy
I was surprised not to see Price’s 2021 run, but great video!
That is true. Legendary goaltending in 2021
5:08 That's the reason why I feel like Dominik Hasek is the best goalie of all time and not Roy
Pekka rinne in 2017 deserves some love too. Probably just honorable mention tho. Nashville had no business being in the finals much less playoffs.
He is just too good right now
Lot of people saying Montreal's (and Roy's) overtime record in the '93 playoffs was 10-0. Great example of the Mandella Effect in action. They did lose one OT game that year, in game 1 of the first round against the Nordiques. Still damn impressive.
Also largely overlooked was that they lost the first TWO games to Quebec before winning 11 straight and 16 of 18.
I know it didn't result in a cup, but that run by Halak for the habs was one of the best I've ever seen! If he had brought them to a cup victory, it would be in the top 3 for sure, if not first!
Better than Thomas or Giguere? That’s a high bar, I don’t know about that. Top 10, probably. Top 5, hard to say. I have a hard time putting that ahead of Roy in 94 going 10-0 in overtime. I was 3 when Hextall had the run at 93 so I cannot give a fair comparison to that one, so I’ll defer to Shannon and say it’s better than Roy in 93.
Surprised that Bill Ranford's 1990 run that got the Oilers their 5th cup didn't make the list. Anyway keep up the hard work THG!
I lived in Edmonton that year and his play during the run was crazy good. Easily in my top 10 performances by a goalie since 1981
such a tough list to compile, but once again Shan youve done it justice.
Osgood in 2008 & 2009 was on a mission in the playoffs. Had the Wings not come out flat in that game 7, he’d be a shoe in the hall of fame.
Even with his current resume, there's no reason guys like Ryan Miller, Lungqvist or Luongo should be in before Ozzy. 400 wins, 3 cups, 2-time Jennings winner, 13th all-time in wins, 9th all-time in playoff wins, and 4th all-time in win %.
The Ducks lost ONE game at home during that 2003 postseason. Giguere had an INSANE run that postseason.
Thanks for the LA love Shannon, Quick will always be a hero in LA
I love how people are trying so hard to make quick #1 and are trying too hard to dispute him being lower which is ridiculous. Quick is always #1
Really hard list to come up with, but a very commendable effort Shannon. You're right, every year there's atleast one hot goalie, so some fanbases are definitely gonna be tweaked for sure 😏
I'll say this as a Devils fan - I appreciate the Brodeur selections and love shown despite the lack of a Smythe win and team trapping reputation. His stick handling was THE key reason their various systems over the years were executed so well. Teams simply couldn't dump and chase effectively on them with Marty acting as a 3D, and his athleticism stopped most of the dangerous chances when they did come.
Quick and Giggy had some unreal runs in the last 20 yrs, I have a greater appreciation for them now as time has passed.
Kirk McLean put on maybe the best goaltending performance I’ve ever seen in 1994. His performance in Game 7 of the finals is often overlooked, even though he made 50+ saves and after Game 6, I thought the Canucks had a chance…until they got into penalty trouble early in game 7 and fell behind 2-0.
I also will never forget his save on Robert Reichel in game 6 I believe of the first round Series vs Calgary. Even the goalie judge turned on the light.
As a flames Fan I really disliked/respected McLean afterwards
You read out Brodeur's stats from 2000 when talking about 2003. He was 16-8 with a .934 and 7 Shutouts in 2003.
Martin Brodeur absolutely deserved the Conn Smythe in 2003. The Ducks lost the Stanley Cup Final that year. To me, the MVP should absolutely go to the best player on the winning team.
@@armandoperez7967Jiggy let in a single goal in the WCF. 3 shutouts in a four game series. The Conn Smythe should go to the best player period. Its hard enough getting it on the losing side, so if you do get it you obviously deserved it. Especially in a 7 game series where no team lost an away game. Brodeur was great in 2003 but Jiggy was otherworldly.
@@wyattleonard7618 I stand corrected. All good points!
Marty was robbed in 2003 straight up.
It was a consolidation prize to the loser goalie from California Hockey which to thay point , hadn't won anything.
Marty was Better. Marty was historic. Marty was robbed
@@yoholmes273 Not long afterward, the Ducks did win the Stanley Cup. I hope that the current Florida Panthers ownership and GM keep improving the team and build up the fan base so that the cup can finally come to south Florida and make the team a destination for the superstars. For so many years, the Panthers, as a team and as an organization, were the laughing stock of the NHL. Teams would come to South Florida to have fun an practice. At least the Tampa Bay Area has had their Stanley Cup parades, 3 of them.
The only ranking I disagree with is Thomas being above Giggy.
Regardless, everyone has a different opinion. Fantastic video! I appreciate the work you do and the dialogue you create! Take care, Shan
I agree about Giguere, but I think the two are very borderline. Thomas probably won because he won the Cup and his numbers were technically the greatest in history. (At least for a year)
2012 Jonathan Quick was all-time special. Brick Wall
He was good but his team was amazing too. 3-0 lead in every series and tonnes of big goals and super hard hitting. Hextal in 87 has so little support, I'm surprised he isn't higher up on the list.
@bobsmith962 6 of LAs wins were decided by one goal. Think another 5 or so decided by 2 goals. There would've been more 1 goal games if Quick didn't put up a 1.41gaa and .946sv LA only scored roughly 2.5 goals per game that run
@@justjohnny420that’s insane…
It’ll never be replicated ever again imo
Except for that center ice goal from Derek morris
I mean, 2012 Jonathan Quick has to be top spot in this right? Let's watch!
Love this list shannon . Stuff i used to do with friends when we were not playing hockey or video game hockey and in bewteen opening hockey card boxes. Keep er going !!! 😊 awesome stuff.
I can never argue with the great Shannon Skanes. But I am literally shocked that Jordan Binnington's run in 2019 is not on this list. It feels almost inconceivable in a way.
As a Flyers Fan That Run Jordan Had Was Incredible!
No love for the Blues! Binnington's playoff run started with the shut out of Philadelphia in his first ever game in the regular season. St Louis goes nowhere in 2019 without his spark and the momentum that the Blues captured at that moment.
Bernie Parent 1974 & 1975 Conn Smythe
Jon Casey from 91 deserves a HM. Yes Minnesota just went on a tear the whole team. He was also huge for them and they end up taking 2 against the Pens
Never heard of him
Luongo in 2006/2007 dragged the Canucks though 12 playoff games with a .941 save percentage before the emergence of the sedins.. we lost to the ducks who were stacked and eventually won the cup.. Sadly we didn’t make it to the cup final or that performance would’ve been listed
Lifetime Kings fan, so Quick 2012 is obviously a highlight. But I vividly remember 1993 and 94. Potvin is my favorite goalie all time, but Richter and McLean were just so great. I have all 4 of these guy’s jerseys. Need a Roy Montreal (can’t do 93) and Giguere jersey for sure.
Great video THG, I always enjoy goalie focused videos. I haven't gotten to the great performances of goalies that were out in the first round video. Thinking about you could probably do that style of video for goalies out in the second and third rounds. I just wanted to note Mike Smith's run in 2012 was insane too, 1.99 GAA, 3 shutouts and a .944 save percentage. Dude was on fire but faced Quick who was playing even more out of his mind that year.
Was hoping to see Cam Ward on the actual list haha. But love that he and Irbe made the HM list.
Agreed , with the exception of Roy 1986 no other rookie goalie has led their Team to the Stanley in the Open Era (1968-)
Wardo definitely deserved to be recognized.. That Hurricanes Team was criminally underrated
Nah that’s actual bullshit he won the playoff MVP as a 22 year old rookie and somehow doesn’t qualify for this list that’s just a joke
@@bartholomewesperanza3442 I agree. He also came in as a Hail Mary essentially… wasn’t like he played a lot in the regular season, and his numbers were average at best. But in those playoffs he lit the hockey world on fire.
Shannon dropped the ball huge here. How does he not even included Cam Ward magically rookie year run to the Stanley cup.
@@marknilsson3342 what about back-back rookie Stanley Cup wins for Matt Murray? He's the only goalie to win two Stanley Cups as a classified rookie goalie and the starter to boot in both runs.
It sucked being on the other side of the 2012 final, but watching Quick and Brodeur shake hands after the series was a special moment.
2013 Corey Crawford is so underrated
man 2021 Price was god mode
at least for the first 3 rounds
True. Dragged a very mediocre Montreal team to the finals.
Honestly SerBob couldve been on this year as well of Vanbiesbrouck in 1996. Both were basically the only reason those teams went to the final
Good list! The only change that I would make would be to put Hasek’s run with the Sabres higher. He carried a mediocre team to the finals and his saves and save % were both amazing. Do you remember who won the Smythe that year and was Hasek in the running? Hasek was always fun to watch. In a relatively short NHL career, we won everything. Stanley cup, world hockey gold, and olympic gold! Amazing goalie.
Joe Nieuwendyk won the Conn Smythe that year. Hasek was definitely in the running and would've got it for sure if the Sabres had won. Also Modano, Hull and Belfour were in the running
Thanks for the reply! Makes sense.
In my opinion Roy in the 1993 playoffs is the best goalie run I have ever seen. Which is why I joke about the Leafs that year. Leafs would have lost to Roy and habs anyways lol. I agree Shannon. Game 7 Cup finals I want Roy on my net. Awesome video!. I love hockey and the goalies really make the sport special.
Yeah, to me Roy in 1993 was the best run I ever saw. He got in Wayne Gretzky's head. I don't think anyone else has ever been able to say that.
@@shawngillogly6873 very true about getting in Gretz head, he sure wasn't the Great One that series. After single handedly eliminating Leafs. Kings were almost swept by Habs, 5 game series if I remember. Just the perfect 11 consecutive OT wins in a playoff run alone, seals the deal for me. I don't think that record is ever to be broken.
Honestly, I think the Giguere run was the best run I’ve ever seen. As a Detroit fan it pains me to say it and relive them knocking us out in the first round despite having been the heavy favorites, it was unreal. Frankly, I don’t think any run came as out of left field aside from maybe Roy as a rookie cause nobody knew but Giguere was not the most touted goalie in the world at the time and they had had just an average regular season with him. Given what had happened to his Daughter and all of that stuff on top of that… it was unbelievable just how dominant he was during that run.
No shade to Quick, or Thomas… Giguere was just better. It was just near impossible to beat him and despite the defense of the Ducks Detroit especially had a ton of chances and just could not beat the guy.
Absolutely NOT. You're nuts
He was invincible, truly. Best run imo
Great video, Shannon! Being an old timer, I’ll
offer the following 3:
Roger Crozier for the Wings in ‘65 (granted, there were only 2 playoff series in the Original 6 era, so there were no long runs of excellence).
Glenn Hall for the Blues in ‘68. He almost single-handedly made a lopsided series competitive. The great - and knowledgeable - Habs fans gave him a big ovation at the Forum.
Ken Dryden for Les Canadiens in ‘71. They beat both Boston and Chicago in the playoffs that year, even though they were heavy underdogs.
Cheers,
Ol Rustbucket
Hey Shannon, not sure if you will see this but I've been watching your videos for about four five years now. Love the content it's rare that I miss a video. I love everything that you do.
This kind of video makes me wonder if you could possibly do a list of your favorite goaltenders/ wingers/centers/ defenseman. Not statistically speaking who is best but who is your subjective favourite.
If you don't see this either way best of luck in your future endeavors thanks for everything you do
No Kiprusoff in 2004? He was insane.
Yep, and I was looking at more than 40 years of Cup runs. I already didn't have any of Fuhr's or Billy Smith's runs on there.
THG is biased against teams that beat up on canucks in the playoffs 😭
/s
@@justjohnny420 hes like the least biased fan for the canucks, he rips on them more then support at this point
I know it's pre-1981 but Bernie Parent's playoff run in 1975 was ridiculous. 10-5, .924 save %, 1.89 GAA, and 4 shutouts was insane. Had MacLeish's goal in game 4 against the Islanders in the semifinals was allowed to stand Parent would have gone 10-2 in those playoffs.
I'm glad to see Hextall's run so high on the list. Was he the first goalie to win the Conn Smythe on the losing team? With the Vezina that year as well.
What could have been. Flyers meeting Islanders dynasties, Canadiens dynasties, Oilers dynasties, Red Wings' dynasties and then Chicago's tainted one. (I know these teams didn't win 3 out of 4 or whatever, but you can't say these weren't monster teams in their eras when Philly ran into them)
Fun video. I remember most of these, and man did we see some great goaltending a few times. I had season tickets to the Avs 2001 run, so I got to see that first hand.
Glenn Hall might have been the first player to win the Conn Smythe on a losing team with the St. Louis Blues in 1967.
@@squiggleface3631 That was 1968. And Roger Crozier was the first to do it in 1966
@@jordancivic96 Jordan, you nailed it! Good memory (or lookup). As an old STL guy, I vividly recall Hall’s outstanding performance in the ‘68 playoffs.
I had forgotten that Crozier had won the Smythe for the Wings a couple years earlier.
Both Hall and Crozier were a treat to watch. Both were acrobatic goalies who would dive, sprawl, or whatever it took to keep the puck out of the net. So different than current goalies who play deep in the net and rely on size and modern rotating pads to seal off the 5-hole. Current goalies look robotic by comparison.
Kind of surprised you didn't put Richard Brodeur in 1982 up there. A .918 save percentage in 1982 is almost unthinkably impressive.
As a Blackhawks fan I agree. It was heartbreaking watching the Hawks tandem of Esposito and Bannerman play a great series but Brodeur was just better.
Vancouver had the easiest playoff run to the Stanley Cup in NHL history. They didn't win a game against a team with a winning record. The only team they played with a winning record was the Islanders who ended up destroying the Canucks
Honestly was hoping Jiggy's 07 run wouldve been up here as well. Dealing with everything going on with his newborn daughter to absolutely shutting the door every step of the way is remarkable.
My first thought after reading the title was 03 Giguere
#1 and #2 collectively destroyed the Canucks best-ever chances of winning a cup.
Great video concept
It's '03 Giguere for me when you take a look at the roster in front of him. It was a well-coached, motley crew of players, but there's nothing striking outside of Kariya, Sykora and a 40-year old Oates.
I don't think there's been a worse, on-paper Finals team in my 30 years of viewing and I'd go on to say that they had also climbed the steepest hill just to get there.
And to only allow a single goal for an entire series against Minnesota that year in the conference finals was nothing short of outstanding.
Without watching the video, 2012 Kings Jonathan Quick number one?
Obviously. That one is going to be nearly impossible to beat.
@kencook4956 Babrovsky's 2023 run first three rounds...maybe not in-family, in-neighborhood?
@@joeya8721
Not even close.
1993 Roy is still a gut punch as a Kings fan. May Canada forever be cursed by McSorley's stick, ya' cheaters.
My favorite doesn't make it because of time: 1971 Ken Dryden winning the cup and conn smythe before winning the calder the next season.
Roy '93
Beezer '96
Jiggy '03
Murray '16
Good to see a Flyers goalie in there, in the Top 5 no less. The year I graduated high school.
We have to mention Henrik Lundqvist here and the 2014 run. Look at that rangers team... Ryan Mcdonagh has the most points with 17 in 25 games and the best forward had 15. He had a .9.28 save % in a run when they beat a Flyers team with peak Giroux, a Pens team with peak Crosby and Malkin and a Canadiens team with peak Pacioretty and Price. They lost the final vs the power house Kings.
In my book this is by far bettre then Kolzigs run and is on the same level with atleast as the 1999 Hasek run for Buffalo or might be even bettre then that on.
Agreed. Hank dragged mediocre ranger teams and coaches to the playoffs year after year after year. Travesty he had to play his entire career for the rangers. And this is coming from a rangers fan. Hank is a Top 10 goalie of all time, hands down.
2019 Jordan Binnington
I truly enjoyed this Shannon. As a goalie fan I was racking my brain trying to guess you’re selections. Totally got blindsided by Olof Kolzig but once you said his name I was like dang it! He is right.
My honourable mention is Dwayne Roloson. If he didn’t go down in the Carolina series Edmonton could have had a chance. But I’m assuming because he went down in game 1 this would be why he possibly wouldn’t qualify.
vasy in 2021 at 16 is the most disrespectful thing ive seen in a while i thought that was gonna be the 2020 run of vasy when he said it wasnt khabibulin but when i saw 2021 my jaw dropped obviously im bias but if not a top 5 run OAT than for sure top 10
2021 price run was absolutely crazy best run ive ever seen in my young age. Definitely better then Vasy’s in my opinion considering the team in front
I was born in '89 so I'm just old enough to remember some of the older ones. Nothing stands out to me quite like Thomas though. The guy played out of his mind. I'll never forget when he laid out Sedin. One of my favourite hockey performances of all time and not a Bruins fan
Shannon is a reverse Epicurean - he’s like how can I do a video for the most amount of pain for the greatest number of people?
…Hmm I know ranking peoples favourite goalie runs from their childhood nostalgia filled-memories.
Even me I was like Beezer ‘96 how dare you.
Hahaha
This is why I keep turning back in. One of the best content creators on the internet.
Ryan Miller had a heck of an early career run in the 2005/06 playoffs.
2003 is why they should have two separate awards like they do in baseball. The Stanley Cup Final MVP and the Playoffs MVP.
We still complain about Giguer in Minnesota. 3 straight shutouts and we finally got a goal in the 1st period of game 4. That f'r stopped 122 of 123 shots that series. I was drunk at a peanut bar and started a "sieve" chant when Andrew Brunette finally got one past him.
I can't believe that Binnington is not on there!
I feel like price's bubble run could have made it on. love these goalie videos
Price’s 2014 run would’ve been in the top ten if he didn’t get injured in the ecf as well imo
Osgood not being in the Hall of Fame is really insane... common!
thought for sure I'd see Carry Price's 2021 where he was literally putting the team on his back and forced them to go to the finals.
I'll never understand the Osgood HoF hype. He wasn't a starter the majority of his career, and he wasn't *that* good, even at his best. He's a career .905 save % guy in the heart of the dead puck era, and a career -15.5 GSAA.
For me, Price deserved his spot on this board more than Vasilevskiy for the 2021 run. Especially when you remember he was in the AHL a few days before the playoffs started. Otherwise, this is a great list.
Price was having one of the greatest goaltending performances ever through three rounds but he really collapsed in the finals. Undid all of those historic stats in just a few games, sadly.
It’s actually very emblematic of his career. When he was at his best, he was THE best. But when he was off, he’d really collapse and was borderline bad. And I say this as a life long Habs and Price fan.
@@Mirrale He didn’t collapse. The team in front of him was simply not good enough for that Tampa team. What Bobrovsky did this year was a collapse not Price
@@MaverickWall238 he had a 3.20 GAA and a .888 save % in the final and they weren’t all caused by defensive lapses. He and the team in front of him collapsed together.
@@Mirrale If you think Price collapsed in that series we didn’t watch the same finals
@@MaverickWall238 Yeah well I referenced stats too, so I trust that over our subjective memories from something we watched over 2 years ago.
Edit: in the first 3 games of the final (which pretty much lost it for them going down 0-3), he had a 4.39 GAA and .835 sv%. You can't solely blame the team in front of him for that. A lot of the goals were low quality scoring chances.
He turned it around the last two games but the hole was already dug.
Beauty vid!
Pekka Rinne in 2017 was just too good and apparently too good for an honorable mention.
What holds Rinne back is how terrible he was when the game was in Pittsburgh. I've never seen such a night and day play by a goalie. He was pulled every game he played in Pittsburgh
@@krizlad Rinne was only pulled in game one to give an extra man on the ice down one goal. Wasn’t pulled for Saros however.
@MetronomeGamez maybe I'm remembering that part wrong but the fact is Rinne was a completely different goalie when playing in Nashville vs when he played in Pittsburgh
Great Stuff
Go Wings
I would love a video on the best goalie performances in a round 1 knockout!
Kippers 04 run wasn’t even an honourable mention 😢
I've been lucky. Lived in Nashville during the Pekka years. Then moved to Tampa and got to see a Year or two of Bishop. Then Vasy come in and annihilate.
Love seeing my man Osgood not only on the board, but leading the Red Wings. Cool video, always love the netminder. LGRW 🐙 🏒 🤘
And above a possible GOAT in Hasek. I am with Shannon, shame he isn’t in the hall.
In 2003 Brodeur had three shutouts in the Finals to support the Devils cup. No one can match that.
as a kings fan, I knew what was coming at #1 :)
"King" Richard Brodeur with the Canucks in 1982 Playoffs? He won 11 of his 17 games with a .917 SV% ! Runner-up for the Conn Smythe!
Suprised that Kiprusoff 2004 didn't get on that list.
I remember Bennington’s run back in 2019 where he basically stole game 7 from Boston. One of my favourite hockey memories
Not to mention the double OT with the stars
Binnington was a flash in the pan.
@@timetowakeup6302 dam right
@timetowakeup6302 You aren't wrong, but it was a hot flash!
@@timetowakeup6302 Ya know, you can't make something true just by repeating it ad nauseum. Binnington was 7th in Vezina voting the following season. That fact alone crashes your falsehood.
Know it's out of the range
But Ken Dryden 1976 12-1 .929sv%
1977 12-2 .932sv% honorable mentions
Hasek at 10 is a joke. Literally carried a 7 seed to the final with a 939 sv%.
Buffalo had one player in the top 50 in scoring that year and hasek with the best player in the league at that time.
Agreed! Should have won the Smythe
Bill Randford 1990 should be on this list. Yes Messier was there, but Ranford was the reason the Oilers won the cup without Gretzky. He was outstanding.
Absolutely. He earned that Conn Smythe. He also had a lot to do with Quick’s cups because he’s the Kings’ goalie coach.
I love the left side but way less the right side. There's a lot of stacked teams on the right that would have won the cup even with a lesser goalie in my opinion. I think that 2004 Kiprusoff, 2006 Ward and 2021 Price should be up there.
I'm a little surprised that every goalie that won the Conn Smythe wasn't included in this list
Commenting to increase the algorithm for Shannon!
Martin Jones in 2016 and Pekka Rinne in 2017 were really impressive as well
2020-2021 Vasy is 💪🏼
Can we get a video on what happened to OG hockey brands like Cooper, Koho, Jofa, etc?
And rank them!
That is a great idea
Hespeler, Titan, Riedell, Christian, Canadien
And what the hell happened to Eagle?
being a tender myself i dont have much to complain about on your choices-good job guy
The fact that Marty won the 2003 cup but lost the conn Smyth was a travesty
Any other year it would've been a slam dunk Smythe vote for Marty's performance, but I can't say Giggy didn't deserve. But you know, I don't really take stock in media-voted awards as much as I do player-voted and player-earned awards. The cup is all that matters to me as a NJD fan.
Agreed. Same goes for 1999 Hasek.
