+Jenifer Farrell Good luck with your purchasing. I'm enjoying this machine and its capabilities. Also, even though it comes with lots of feet, you can also purchase many more attachments at reasonable prices. You should be able to get a good deal on one of these at this time of year - maybe a Black Friday sale? :)

+Chatterboxquilts Yes, a dealer told me she's getting the new models in and with credit of trade-in on my current machine, it comes in at about US $1500 ... seems too good to pass up!

Hi my knee lift is too far away for comfort . Have used them on industrial machines so know how they work.

Hi Kim, I'm loving your videos. I'm in the process of trading my Elna Excellence 740 for a Janome 8900. Apparently, Janome purchased Elna, and this is supposed to be identical to the Elna. He also said the new Janome would fit into the Elna table that my Excellence was in. My question is this: What is the difference between the 8900, the 8900QC, and the 8900QCP? Not sure which one I ordered, but will give him a call to find out. Once I get my machine, (at the end of the week) , I'm sure I'll be watching more of your videos.

Hi Rachel: Thanks for watching. I believe that there is only one model of the 8900 - I just think that different websites/people call it different things. The actual name is the Janome Horizon Memory Craft 8900 QCP. You may see a special edition too, which is usually related to the appearance of the machine, rather than anything different in its stitches or functionality. You may also find that the machine is labelled slightly differently in different countries. I'm sure you're going to love working with your new machine. Be sure to read your manual so you understand how to use it before working with it - it saves a lot of frustration :)

Actually, when I went to pick it up, I discovered that it was the 8200 that I had ordered. He gave me a great trade in on my Elna, and I am absolutely loving my new Janome8200. Thanks so much for replying to my Comment.

What is the name of the sewing table that this fits into?

This is a Sylvia sewing cabinet that I use for my Janome machine. You can find out more about them at www.sylviadesign.com.

Help!! When starting a seam, the bobbin thread gets all "balled" up. I've tried holding both threads when starting (or just the top thread if I've used the automatic cutter). Sometimes that helps but not always. Any hints??? Thanks.

Definitely hold both threads to the side of the foot when starting. It can also help to use a small piece of fabric - what Bonnie Hunter calls a "leader" to start off stitching. Hopefully one of these suggestions helps.

Will this handle (on a regular basis) denim and backpacking materials? I sew a lot of heavy duty things.

I wouldn't recommend any currently made domestic machine for heavy materials, such as those used in backpacks. I have found that older vintage machines, such as a Singer 15-90 or 15-91 or 201 work very well for these types of applications. And they are less expensive :) Check out some of my videos on these vintage machines on my UA-cam channel.

Central Ohio Service on occasion for heavy duty sewing jobs I pull out my Pfaff 1222e with built in walking foot. Punches through leather with ease

Actually you need an industrial machine to sew heavy material, such as jeans

Hi Kim, I'm thinking about buying this Janome machine, but I've read that to control the speed it does not have a pedal. Is it like that? And if so, you could not put pedal optionally.
Sorry for my English, but I'm Spanish, and I use the Google translator. thank you very much.

with pedal I was referring to the Foot Controller

You can run the machine with the foot pedal or you can disconnect it and use a Start/Stop button on the machine to run it. The machine does come with the foot pedal.
