The club let down the local fans, travelling, buying tickets etc to watching the kids get thumped 8-0, if they were never intending to play anyone from the first team, then they should not have agreed to play that game, if anything it has actually damaged the brand.
Totally agree Matty, the only thing worse than getting beat 8-0 would be signing DCL, he would never be fit.
Eddie Howe has to be sacked. We can't afford to waste more money on average British players

I thought the purpose of this tour was to boost the clubs profile in Australia. I don't think many locals will be flocking to support Newcastle particularly after watching our team of kids getting walloped by the Aussie league players
Australian fans deserve an apology from NUFC,a few of the first team players could have played a part in this match ,if none available the match should've been cancelled.
Hard to not feel mugged by the club. Paid $200 for my ticket, probably wouldn't have spent half that had I known it would just be a full U21 side. Was under no illusions that the big names would be kept in cotton wool and might make the briefest cameos (if anything) but why couldn't we see even 30 mins out of Dummett, Ritchie and others. Fortunately I'm a Melb local but there were Toon fans flying in from other places or even overseas to watch this.
The club are getting mocked and jeered by local football fans and media for that uncompetitive effort. When you consider some of the biggest clubs in europe have played the All Stars (Manure, Barca, Juve), we have really done some damage to the NUFC brand and reputation in these parts. Either the club is now seen as disinterested and arrogant for not putting in more effort or they are shown to be significantly behind the 'best and biggest' european clubs.
If the plan was always to play the U21s, they should have left after the Spurs games tbh
That was an absolute piss take by the club. I've been supporting the club for 30 yrs and when it was announced that Newcastle would be coming to Melbourne many here including myself were over the moon. People here paid a lot of money to watch Newcastle and came from all across the country as well as New Zealand and it felt like we were disrespected. Tickets were ridiculously expensive but we paid for them anyway as we just wanted to watch our team. But when that sought of performance and line up is dished out it's just embarrassing and an insult to us fans.

PR disaster, badly organised, 2 games in 2 days a day after a 24 hr flight? Madness. Zero communication with coaching staff as to player welfare. Should have been a preseason thing not the week the league finishes. backfired, hope they learn from this. Aus fans getting screwed over won't build the brand.

Well this has potentially backfired massively. Should have atleasg made it known before we travelled that we only ever intended on playing senior players in the first game, rather than waste peoples time travelling to watch the kids getting smashed in the 2nd game.

Just to put it in perspective, the A-League is still running, so players involved in the Finals competition weren't playing. The All-Stars were from teams at the bottom of the table.

When we play the first team everyone says it’s a disgrace and they play too many games as it is, we play the kids and everyone asks why we didn’t play Bruno and Isak.
We couldn’t win the PR war on this one either way but that was a disappointment of a match. Friendly or not we should have done better.

Followed newcastle 25 years. Most excited ive been to watch a game in my life. 80 pound a ticket. Hours travel. Got robbed by my club. Whatever your opinion on the timing of this. I just hope to God none of our first teamers have picked up injuries. For me it shows how little Dan Ashworth has actually achieved in the 2 years he’s been at the club. The academy was meant to be he area of specialism and I don’t think we’ve seen a massive improvement with how things are run in that department

@@BrianPinas9 the thing is Graham got a lot of crap from our supporters for some signings we made, but at the end of the day during the Mike Ashley era it was very much a case of sometimes settling on the 4th choice player (as I've heard some former managers say) and not because we couldn't attract the 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice but because Ashley just wouldn't authorise the spending
Many of the players we were linked with but never pulled the trigger on because of price could have really made a difference I'm thinking Modric, Aubameyang, Lacazette etc...

Well that was silly.
Let’s all agree that going there on the first place was a bad idea but they are not the first to do a bad idea for some money and publicity. But there is the issue. If anything it’s bad publicity, if I were a fan and turned up to find no record usable Newcastle players on the pitch I’d be well annoyed. So having decided to go with the bad plan they should have at least done it well in the hope of inspiring some Aussies to become mags.

Why are people even bothered? Who cares , I’m happy they sent all the first team players home yesterday we shouldn’t have even been there. Fair play to travelling fans and any local fans but ultimately the match was completely irrelevant and anyone travelling over would have gone for the trip in general, the match itself is just a footnote
