The behavior of the Republican party started before Trump. The constant barrage of lies spread by right wing about Obama was where it started for me but the obsequiousness of the party to Trump just moved them farther away from me. This guy's vision of the BOP would at least bridge the gap a little bit. I am all for a better version of Obamacare and for actual fiscal conservatism rather than just lip service to the national debt when the other party is in charge.

This charleton talks about being fair. In the next breath, commends Trump for stealing 2 justices, young, unqualified, plebes from the Federalist society, W/ no bi partisan support. Oh, and is " concerned about the debt". Every Rep is concerned about debt when Dem are in office. No concern after Trump elected! First thing Trump did was give trillions to the most wealthy Americans, and increased the debt over 2 trillion dollars to do it. Put it right on the ole credit card. Right on top of the check to establish Trump's dillussional "Space Force". Did we really establish a whole new branch of the service to absorb "more" tax $$ to kill innocent people here, and around the globe? Of course we did. Significantly Lowered the corp tax rate almost 14%. Lowered the rate for America's highest earners. Got rid of the inheritance tax! Affecting America's most blessed 200 families. You see, that's $$ that goes to Amer richest families, which in turn, results in large campaign contributions back for the GOP.This is how American govt operates. By definition, it's corruption. Our govt was put up for sale, and the response from around the world was more than receptive. The increasing Amt's of $$ pouring into our politics leaves little doubt: investing in America's corrupt political process is a great investment. And, with the right connections and the placement of $$ in the right hands, there is nothing that cannot be accomplished. Ask Maria Butina! A national hero in her native Russia. But, during the Trump admin, maria was allowed into press briefings and curiously chosen by the pres to toss lobball Q's to further Putin and Trump's desired propoganda. Then, a GOP Congressional boyfriend! So easy! Then, a tour GUIDE, escorting dozens of prominent members of the GOP to fancy trips to Moscow. You know, cultural exchanges and.....other kinds of exchanges.$$ Maria was identified as a foreign spy. But, don't worry, with corrupt friends in high places, like Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, you will be, not at all surprised maria has landed on her feet. In fact, maria now enjoys a place of high esteem within the Russian govt for the work she did with Trump, promoting the interests of Russia. Puts a whole new spin on the American dillussion that, anything is possible in America.

Just because Trump promised it for 4 years and never came up with anything doesn't mean it can't be done. I would be skeptical of anything Republicans might put forward but would be open minded to something this guy proposed. For me, universal health care would be better than Obamacare. I don't think Republicans are going to put that forward but while Obamacare was great for making insurance more affordable for many and protecting those with preexisting conditions, its not perfect.

@@f0xygem Or expanding Medicaid...especially since lots of businesses either can't (like pretty much any small/locally owned business) or won't provide health insurance for their employees if they can avoid it. Raising taxes on those who aren't currently paying their fair share - like corporations - will help that.
I'm in somewhat of a unique position to speak about this, since I was both a physician and small business owner (bailed out of both in 2007). I couldn't afford any type of medical insurance for myself for the 8 years I was self-employed, and, of course, experienced first hand what a nightmare dealing with insurance companies is as a physician. It's not much better if you are a patient - the insurance companies do everything they can to keep the largest slice of the 3-part pie to themselves/shareholders (other two parts being: patients & doctors/hospitals).

I disagree. Of course its a moving target. We have literally seen a shift in 150 years from southern Democrat to Republican and same evolution but neither has a monopoly on policy or hypocrisy. I tend to mistrust anyone who thinks their Party is 100% black and white correct on every issue. I would have preferred he talk about that single mom in terms of daycare and health care rather than just schools and crime but all 4 are major issues with lots of nuanced layers to them.

    • @Saje3D
      @Saje3D 2 роки тому +2

@@929mmr No. The Democrats aren’t perfect or 100% correct. But they DO believe government serves the public good and therefore TEND not to enter politics strictly for their own good. The Democrats aren’t 100% correct, but the Republicans are and have been 99% wrong for decades.
There are few Democratic voters today who wouldn’t support the 50s Republican platform, the platform it had before the Dixiecrats threw a fit and abandoned the Democrats over civil rights. And it’s been echoes of that same resentment that’s fueled a certain class of swing voter ever since. “They care about THEM more than US.” Ignoring, of course, that the “them” in question have been consistently underserved.
The Democratic Party is a coalition of disparate groups that, until recently, had very little in common outside of the party itself. There is nothing linking environmentalists with LGBTQ activists and nothing linking either with, for example, the BLM movement, other than possibly a few crossover members. The Democratic Party gives them all a place to find common ground.
Its greatest flaw might also be its greatest strength. It tries to make everyone happy and, in the end, pleases no one overmuch. Which is what Democratic compromise usually ends up looking like. Everyone gets something, if not necessarily exactly what they wanted. And of course that truly satisfies NO ONE.
But balancing the needs and desires of widely disparate groups with little enough in common is quite a task. It would be much easier to decide you’re in it for yourself over everything and just vote the way your corporate sponsors would prefer, telling your gullible constituents the knife you thrust into their back is GOOD for them. It’ll toughen them up and they’re actually a superior breed for being willing to walk around with a knife stuck in them.

Womens roles have changed . When you grew up health costs probably weren't so much at the forefront. Things change so you have to evolve. @d.killam3461 2 роки тому +9

I have 2 issues with this interview. These are not based on hard fact, they are simply personal issues.
    1. I am very interested in opposition interviews. I am not going to watch a soft chat where both people have the same views. I either agree with both, and don't need to hear it, or I disagree with both and just become very frustrated. Be aware of what their views are, yes, listen to it for hours, no. So I enjoy opposition interviews, because lets face it, Lt. Gov Duncan is putting himself out there on a channel that isn't going to hold his hand. I appreciate that, I admire that. But when half the interview is "I talk about it in the book" you lose me. I don't have time to read a book I want to read, let alone your self inflicted reach around about why you should be the new leader of your party. That's why I have to listen to pod casts, while I do dishes, while I fold laundry, while I drive. If I was going to read your book, I wouldn't need to listen to this interview. When you bring your book up in response to just about every single question, I know this is just an ad for you. Sorry, not buying.
    2. The reason I have no time to read a book is I have a job, I have a house to care for, and 5 nights a week I have my grand kids for 8 hours. I DO have a problem with them walking past drug dealers on their way to school (once they are old enough). But that isn't the ONLY thing I care about. My daughter, their mother, is struggling financially, and she still finds the time to worry about more than just herself and her kids. Don't tell me that the only things people care about are the immediate dangers in their daily life. Those might be the most imminent issues, but they are not even close to the only ones. Strange as it may seem, I do not know a single homosexual person more than as a vague so and so that someone else introduced me to once. But I care deeply about LGBTQ+ issues. I am old enough I will not be around long enough to see the ocean at my front porch, but I care with a passion about climate change. I will not be affected at all by the overturning of Roe v. Wade, but you can damn well bet I care deeply on that issue. I have assured health insurance for the rest of my life, but I would sell my soul if it would buy medicare for all. Just because republicans seemingly like to think that people are small minded, doesn't mean we all are.

Well, he seems like a nice fellow, but he makes me think of the law of inertia -- it takes a lot less to maintain a direction than to change it.
I wasn't 100% on board with the Republican Party I joined 50 years ago, but I leaned in their favor, considering my local as well as national issues. I got pretty uncomfortable, with the rise of Gingrich's mean-spiritedness, but I stuck around. I even came to understand that underneath his nice exterior, Reagan was mean-spirited too. It took forty years for me to drop my party membership and to be independently registered. Now, for the last 5 years, I'm an uncomfortably registered Democrat. The total core values aren't very well aligned with my own, but the world is shaggy and there must always bee loose ends. Given my reluctance to change sides and the pace at which I've done it, I think it's a good wager that I'll NEVER be a Republican again. In fact, I wouldn't vote Republican for Mayor or City Council at this point, because I can't trust anyone who hasn't disavowed the party. I don't know if my position owes itself to laziness or spite, but for me, it's NEVER.
Mr Duncan is probably a good public servant and neighbor. I wouldn't vote for him as a Republican under any circumstance. He can thank his party for that.

Churches and charities are not an answer to government programs. Making people beggars asking for a handout, or professing beliefs they don't share to get assistance is beneath an individuals basic level of dignity.

He may be a nice guy but he doesn't get a pass from me. As a citizen of Georgia he should have had the balls to stand up against this legislation.

What part of losing by 7,000,000 votes leads you to believe the U.S. is “center-right”?

If we can renew our tags through the mail, we should be able to vote by mail. One car, one tag. One voter, one vote.

We are not a center right country. When people are asked about issues, they are supportive of policies that are far more to the left. Unfortunately people have been conditioned to vote for the Republican party as a matter of cultural identity.
