I am the honest vocal coach! I have been teaching for 15 years and been singing since I was 16. I teach from my own studio and also teach and mentor via email, and online via Live & Skype. I specialise in teaching children, and teenagers pop and musical theatre but I am trained in all genres of music. I have studied every voice technique there is, including Speech Level Singing, Estill, Bel Canto, Robert Lunte, London College of Music, ABRSM, Ria Keen, Kim Chandler, Stevie Van Lange and many more. I have been around!

These clips are quite old, I saw her in May and she has improved sooooooo much. She has always said she's not a natural performer but she has really become an amazing one!
Lana maybe gets nervous with crowds ...she is shy thats what she said at interviews.with time she became more relaxed and thus she could sing better live...you are so lucky to watch her sing live❤️

Lana’s best vocals are when she’s not pushing her voice lower like in Blue Jeans. She has a really sweet upper register.
Also, whenever she’s in Europe lol.

The funniest part is that in 2012 this lips were huge internet meme. People edited them to every other celebrities.
If you like Lana Del Rey you might like Marina and the Diamonds. She has a really gorgeous rich voice and amazing stage presence. Her voice gets compared a lot with Kate Bush, so I think you would like her.

What I love about Lana is she experiments with her voice, especially during the born to die/paradise ear. She's definitely not prefect but she's not afraid to try new things and I respect her for that.

her recent ones are WAYYYYY better, saw her last week and she completely hypnotizes you and takes you to another dimension really its the best experience cried through the whole show and her vocals ah!!!

A candid camera truly doesn’t hide anything. Watching your expression, the tilt of the head and your gleaming eyes was like watching someone discover somebody they liked for the first time. I was equally mesmerised by Lana in Feb 2012. I felt that way when I first heard and saw Kate Bush too.
For the first time I see not much criticism from the honest vocal coach. I'm surprised. Either you love Lana already or you're hypnotized by her unexpected vocal. 😍

Personally, I love Lana Del Rey, she is obviously more of a songwriter than a vocalist, but she has a very individual, somewhat retro style, instantly recognizable voice with a variety of beautiful tones (sultry, sweet, airy, childlike, lazy/tired, piercing, wail like etc) and she definitely improved since the days of infamous SNL performance. She stopped slurring and missing words, once she improved her breath control, worked on her mix and lower notes, the cigarettes are definitely an issue, hopefully she'll stop before it's too late.

Yes, she's in the singer/songwriter tradition and has an imperfect voice. But once you get used to the quirks, those voices are full of character and can convey many shades of emotion. Look at somebody like Bob Dylan, his voice is awful on first listen, but it totally suits his persona, lyrics and musical style.
The cigarettes helped her voice get to where it's at. I won't say they're not an issue but they're a deliberate choice. Those warm velvet low notes Lana is infamous is not her true voice. Lana del Rey is a natural soprano. That American Dream clip is a perfect example; what she'd naturally sound like. But she practiced low notes a lot, started smoking, and aged a few years and now she can pass for a mezzo. Smoking cigarettes was a common way for 50's/60's/70's singers to get their voices to lower a bit and get that rough, deep, rock 'n roll voice they didn't naturally have. All this to say: Lana is not likely to stop the cigarettes any time soon and as bad they are, her trademark voice wouldn't be her trademark voice if she didn't smoke.

I like Lanas voice a lot, because there´s no one that sounds like her. I like the fact that she can do a lot of different things with her voice and easily change the tone of her voice. I think that Lana Del Rey is way more talented than people give her credit for. Sometimes I see comments about her performance from SNL when she was in the beginning of her career and just taking off. I think that she´s improved a lot since then and vocally she sounds really good now. I think that Lana Del Rey is a shy person and thats why (I think) that she was not that comfortable on stage in the beginning of her career. When you are nervous it shows sometimes and Lana Del Rey seems more secure now when she`s performing and I think that also means that she´s more comfortable with her voice and her talent as a singer.
She has something special that makes her unique, it goes through your soul in her performances.
Lana has improved a lot since she started, vocally had its drawbacks in the live in its beginnings, but it has been overcome and perfected in the technique. Bravo Lana Viva forever 👏👏👏
Surprise that it didn't have a clip of "Young and Beautiful" in there somewhere. In my opinion, her best song ever!
They say she's one of the worst but seeing this proves them wrong. I'm not a fan of hers and not a fan of her studio songs but live performances are quite interesting and makes me want to listen to her more.

Lana’s stylistic choice of singing is so unconventional which is why some people are turned off by her. She’s not following any rules and she’s doing things with her voice that other singers just don’t bother trying. She’s so mesmerizing. Everything about her is a vibe. Her voice, her style of singing, her attitude, her look, it all comes together as one and exists as a whole. Oh also... she never lipsyncs and isn’t afraid to reinterpret her songs’ melodies which seems to shock people, sadly.
Her voice is imperfect but, sounds amazing anyways.

Lana Del Rey has an incredibly unique voice. She’s also absolutely gorgeous. She looks like she stepped out of a black & white movie from the 40’s. I’ve always said if I were straight & liked the ladies I’d go for “dark” but beautiful ladies with ivory skin & dark hair. Her, Amy Lee & Katy Perry pre-short hair.

Shes gotten much better then before, plus shes supposed to be kind of raspy, that's her "thing." She is kind of airy, but that's just her style. Plus, shes known for her writing more then her singing. She writes so deep and meaningful lyrics.

I cannot say I'm her fan, her music isn't really my cup of tea. But I saw her back in the summer at one festival and to be completely honest, her performance was one of my favourites of the festival, which I didn't see coming at all. Considering that those clips are quite old, she improved a lot. She was absolutely amazing.
