Disney's Polynesian Resort 1991 Vintage Tour of Great Ceremonial House w/ Waterfalls - Disney World

- Disney's Polynesian Resort is undergoing many changes in 2014, including the loss of the iconic waterfall. Look back to 1991, when the Great Ceremonial House looked very different! The shops, Captain Cook's and the layout of the lobby have changed through the years. You'll even see the parrots that used to be perched near the waterfall.

This is how I will always remember the Polynesian Village as I visited it many times throughout the 80s and 90s growing up. I took my children in '09 . So, atleast they will have some memory of the waterfalls in the lobby before it changes. I know over time things change , but the waterfalls and the fresh smell of the waterfalls as you walk into the lobby is always ingrained in your mind even when you are half way across the country. I'll miss them for sure.
Very well said.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting this. So many great memories of my youth. They ruined it taking out the main waterfall area. At least we have this.
Back in the good ol' days when there was just the Contemporary and the Polynesian, you took the reservation you could get at either, then enjoyed monorail service to the other one. It was like you were staying at both hotels. It was a glorious age. Thanks for this time machine.
Yep. I stayed at both in 1989
Exactly. I remember when it was just the 2 resorts. It was a magical time.
I loved this vintage video I actually went to a character the breakfast here in the early 90's brings back memories. So sad to see the waterfall feature go :( I have a picture of my dad and I in front of the waterfall. .in love with all the random goings on.. the guest complain about her room lol, the Bride walking past, and all the vintage clothes for sale. Jeff btw sounds exactly like his father so cute
look not one person looking down at a phone and walking , miss those times
Thanks for this. I've been looking for interior pics from around this time, never thought to check for a video before. My grandparents used to take me to Disney World in the 80s, and we'd always leave the park to come eat here. I'm glad I get to see it again as it was. It's amazing to see how much has changed. I'm most surprised by the shops down where Captain Cook's and the restrooms are now.
This video is a masterpiece
Thank you for sharing. I visited Polynesian, I believe in 91', when I was 6 years old. My dad and my mom took me there for my our first Disney World trip. It was so very special to me. And yes, I remember the beautiful foliage and waterfall in the lobby. And the parrots, yes, the amazing parrots! 🥹🦜✨️
My dad has since passed, and I won't ever have money to stay in a place like Polynesian.. 😢 But I do work for Disney, and my dad told me from his rehab room how proud he was that I had gotten a job there. 🥹🙏
But anyway! I have since picked up at the merchandise store a couple times, Boutique Tiki. It was nostalgic being back at the resort, and did walk around some. But it is not the same. And I am not sure why Disney refurbished it in the first place.. It was truly amazing back then. It's still amazing, but just saying! 😅
Thank you for helping me relive beautiful memories of staying at the Polynesian with my Mother when I was only 14 years old. Some of my happiest memories with her. Best wishes, my friend!
This brings back a lot of memories to me too. Growing up this was always my families choice place to stay when visiting WDW. I know that Disney properties are always in flux and will be sad to see something else I loved as a kid vanishing from sight, to be in memory only...
What a blast from the past. I stayed there around that time and remember it clearly!
Thank you. This place meant a lot to me. Its nice to see it again.
This garden forest was the Best !! 🙌🙋👌👍💖👉😎
Got to stay here in 2009 was so impressed with it. I was always planning on coming back until they decided to take the waterfall out of the lobby
Thanks for the great video Walter, Felt like I went back in time to when I was a kid. If you have any more Id love to see them, take care
Walter is Jeff's dad, they both love filming! There are other videos that he shot, including Disney's Contemporary Resort over 20 years ago. We will likely put others up soon. - Denise
thanks for upload
Thanks. Really liked the interior then. I was there that summer. Lots of changes
This brings back memories thank you :)
Great great footage.I love watching 90s videos of WDW.The last time I was there was April of 1992 at Epcot.Do you know if you have any footage of that time period?I would love to see it if you did.Thank you guys for sharing this.
the lobby sure has changed but I see the abuse towards cast members certainly hasn’t @09:25
It's a shame people feel they have the right to treat others like garbage just because they spend a little money there
Stayed there in 1989
had to be shot on a Full VHS camera?
Does anyone know why they took the waterfall out?
The lobby sucks now. Hate it. Bring back the original one. It was beautiful.
There was no pool?
I had a head of black hair. Now I wear an old-looking Disney cap.
Wasnt there with waterfall. I like the lobby now. Those white wicker chairs are outdated now.
