The coordinate plane was invented centuries ago. I don't believe in strictly negative numbers. I understand it, but does not make (full) sense. X and Y make a pair. One can not go without the other. Relationship is not based on one goes up, the other goes down; rather it should constitute a spacial peoperty of movement (change) that could be equally observed with a direction other than up or down (could be left and right, say just an opposite one). Negative does really bring a negative meaning to the events. Positive we relate to nice, fuller, bigger, more.. etc. On the other hand negative is left with the meaning of less, down, or bad. These are just properties and they both deserve equally understanding of too much too little with the attached positive or negative meaning. As sometimes too much of X (positive) we are attaching to a negative, and we might use minus to denote a positive result (like a negative HIV blood result). In terms of X and Y being use as a measuring parameters that indicate movement up and down, using a negative and positive would still be sufficient. However, I don't quite get it in terms of being used in a coordinate system (as a spacial measurenent). Use X and Y and many other to draw rays of a circle. 0 in the center?? From where everyrhing else radiates and is being increased. The way they are seem to be working in terms of calculation of coordinates and calculations in general. Without plus and minus nothing would be solved. This I understand. The sign as such being applied in all the times and seen as a static vs possible dynamic property (negative and possitive) is what I am struggling with... 🥴😔 I see the arithmetic progression and regression, but maybe it could be as well inverted? progression. I know. I know nothing. The past can possibly become future, you go forward while moving backward.... crazy stuff.
I literally came here just to know how tf to pronounce "cartesian" and im still unsure how i should pronounce it smfh. Even wiki's IPA doesn't help because people I know and hear online keep pronouncing it differently.
