- Lumbee Tribal Chairman Harvey Godwin, Jr. discusses the long honored tradition of farming tobacco with Rex Oxendine and his son Alex Zeb. The Oxendine are one of a few families still farming what used to be considered as Carolina Gold in Robeson County. Rex is following his father, Mr. Zeb's legacy, while also sharing his love for the crop with his son.
This article is enlightening to me. I woke up this morning and to see an article about raising tobacco, how the environmental process affects the community and continues to transform Our families and communities through out our history as The Lumbee Tribe. My moma bought my first teenage dress from Us working in the local tobacco fields in Raeford. I will never forget the smell and will always look forward to it!
Thank you for sharing.
Our blood. Our family. Our land.

Man us Oxendine’s are everywhere. Come down here to Georgetown Florida. We have some Lumbe’s from NC down here.
Man so much better. No cropping mule taking it to barn stringing it and hanging it.
