- Hey there! Thanks for taking time to watch this video of my process designing this beautiful iridescent turquoise veined pedestal table top. Below you’ll find some additional steps, not in the video, as well as a list of many of the supplies I used.
The next day, I was inspired to add a chunky opal mica paste (from Hobby Lobby) over the turquoise veins and a few of the gold leaf areas for a cool jewel effect.
Once dry, I went over this first layer with a mix of clear and a smidgeon of diamond dust. I needed to seal and protect the color layer in order to sand down the peaks that some of the opal paste left, without disturbing my design work in that first layer, which worked great!
Once I sanded the high peaks and sides, I poured my final clear coat. Just need to sand the drips, reassemble the table, touch up the woodwork and she’ll be done!

@@AlchemyArtisanWorks if I weren’t excited about trying this for myself I’d consider buying it!
@@tanyacollins9003 There’s a learning curve, to be sure. I recommend practicing on sample boards. Good luck to you!
Amazing. I love your work!! Thank you for this video. Did you add a clear epoxy layer and then the top coat?
Thank you so much and you’re welcome! I did do a middle layer, with clear and some diamond dust. It wasn’t in the video, nor the final clear coat. I knew I’d need to sand some peaks the opal paste would leave, and that second layer protected my color layer, and gave an extra level of depth. 😊
Beautiful! Did the initial black skim coat help the brighter colors look better or would a clear skim coat have been better on a black painted surface?
Thank you! As to whether it would have looked better with clear, I couldn’t say. You’d have to experiment. For my purpose, I needed the iridescent color shift pigments to be carried by and integrate with the black epoxy for a rich effect. Whether a painted black vase, or black skin coat, the dark base is needed to make the color shift iridescent mica pop! Hope that answers your question.
@@AlchemyArtisanWorks thanks so much for your reply. I think as long as the background is black, I don’t think it matters whether you use a clear skin coat or black epoxy skin coat. 💗
