I love watching these old OG Robot Wars videos. There is just a visceral rawness and realness to it that you didn't see in the CC Battlebots or the UK Robot Wars at the time. Plus the level of experimentation was through the roof. Robots like the Master still remain in my favorites to this day, even if they are very outdated. I was born in 96 so sadly this was before my time, but what I would give to have experienced then when it happened live and this was brand new to everyone. Still, I'm glad this event and the people behind really set the stage in what would become my life passion and main hobby, and I cannot be more thankful. Also, can I just that starting up Blendo looked like the scariest shit ever?
Hi Mark, It's your old neighbor Dean Simone. I've been thinking... Giant (50-100ft) bots battling it out in the badlands. unlimited weight. Somewhere far from people. Multi-drone coverage. ??
its being done. Megabots. look i t up. what is your email address? it was my idea of fighting robots in the future back when i started RW but these things look like transformers and they are people driven just like RW the movie.. my phone number is 415 987 4341. lets catch up sometime.
Hey, well I did look into it but they didn't look that big. I'm talking 5 to 10 story tall mobile structures, megalithic. Maybe I missed it but those Megabots looked around 20'. My email is cintersimone@gmail.com
Just checked them out again. I would never put a person inside a fighting robot. With today's tech it is much easier, safer, better, helpful to put the user as far away as is practical and let the bot do the hard work. It may add Nascar like thrills for some to stick people in these things but I'm more interested in the cathartic diversion that Original RW offered, much like digital gaming offers, but more real and with a lot more welding DARPA would buy them. I believe Google just bought Boston Dynamics one of the top biomimicry robotics companies. AND I also think that the Google CEO is the former DARPA Research head. These are interesting times we live in. One team in the DARPA urban autonomous vehicle competition even goes by the name "SKYNET".
