  • Carol Channing appears as a special guest, and Phyllis Diller as a panelist, on this episode of "I've Got a Secret" with host Garry Moore and (other) panelists Bill Cullen, Henry Morgan, and Bess Myerson.
    Program segments:
    - IGAS staff member Judy Crichton describes accompanying the contest from last week's show to meet the President in Washington, DC.
    - William Willis, 70, of NYC appears with the secret "I sailed a raft 7500 miles across the Pacific Ocean--ALONE!"
    - Terry, Stephanie, and Sue Diller appear with the secret "Our mother is Phyllis Diller", for which the panel is (of course) blindfolded.
    - Carol Channing introduces a segment in which blindfolded husbands describe their wives, and the panel have to match the wives to the husbands from those descriptions.

    *Phyllis Diller lived to be 95, dying in 2012.* By then she had outlived two of her adult children, and one newborn (2 weeks old). Of the three children in this video, *the one "whispering" into the microphone (Stephanie) passed away in 2002* of a stroke, while an older son, Peter, died of cancer in 1998. Her eldest daughter, Sally (not in this clip), was diagnosed with schizophrenia and had to be institutionalized after Diller tried to care for her for many years, without much medical support for mental illness being available back then. So Diller's two remaining independent children who are confirmed alive online, are Suzanne and Perry (not Terry as video info reads); the standing girl and boy seen in this video. I would imagine they likely have wonderful memories of such a pioneering female comedian as their mom. Her two stepsons (from 2nd marriage) seemed close to her as well; one boy, Todd Donovan Tatum, appearing on The Dating Game with Diller asking the humorous questions herself.

    Willis disappeared on a third journey across the North Atlantic: "At age 74, Willis made his third attempt at a solo crossing of the North Atlantic in a small sailboat. Willis left Montauk Point, Long Island on May 2, 1968, in his boat . On September 24, 1968, the crew of the Soviet Latvian trawler sighted his half-submerged boat nearly four hundred miles west of the Irish coast. No one was found on board. Willis' log was found on the boat, with its last entry dated July 21, 1968." Wikipedia

    Phyllis before she had her face done. I danced with her at a gay bar in 1978 and she was lovely, a very pretty lady and sweet.

    The young today can’t imagine what Phyllis Diller was to our generation. The first punk(in her 40s then), with multi-colored hair, way-out hair-do. . . I was a young teen in the early 1960's when I first saw her!

    By this time, IGaS (created by Allan Sherman) was no longer produced by Goodson-Todman but by a joint Gil Fates/CBS venture called Telecast Enterprises. Ironically, both the 1972 and 1976 revivals were produced by Goodson-Todman who leased the rights to IGaS from CBS. It is the only former G-T property not owned by Fremantle Media. (Concentration was always owned by NBC; production rights were leased to Goodson-Todman for the syndicated and "Classic: versions.) I had the privilege of knowing IGaS announcer John Cannon personally; he later became president of the American Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and was a longtime lector in my parish. He was a wonderful, warm, generous and devout man, and he came back to work as a lector even as cancer was eating through him.

    ....this show was broadcast less than 2 months after the assassination of JFK/11-22-1963....so the intro with the staff member who had a photo opportunity with the new President Johnson seems very appropriate...perhaps to allay public concerns.

    • @stacynels4
      @stacynels4 3 роки тому +1

      Allay WHAT concerns?? Lyndon Johnson Spearheaded the Murder Of Our Beloved President John Fitzgerald Kennedy.!! Point Blank Period.!!!! To which Lee Oswald was framed. This Patsy, from the break room where he was seen moments before the motorcade which by the way had switched routes per Lyndon Johnson consorting with police chief Jesse Curry, stood in the doorway of the Texas school book depository along with other employees to watch the presidential motorcade pass in front of. I do believe Oswald thought the shooting was going to take place at the convention center and wanted to see President Kennedy on his way to death. Instead he saw the Murder there in the street, then ran back inside etc etc etc.

    Carol Channing just before her 43rd birthday .She was not even halfway through her life, 55 more years ! Just before her signature success in Hello Dolly. This should give us late bloomers hope. Come to think of it Ms. Myerson and Mom Phyllis Diller are also members of the live to your nineties club. Garry Moore and Henry Morgan smoked those tobacco sticks so they lived to their seventies .
