Longlegs Movie Review - Slow, Frustrating, Artsy Crap

- Опубліковано 14 сер 2024
- Longlegs Movie Review - After watching Longlegs with a few buddies, I can confidently say this movie sucked. Well, it sucked for us. That doesn't mean this A24 wannabe won't work for others. Particularly those who enjoy a very slow, tedious film with beautiful cinematography. That only takes a film so far. Big fans of the genre will probably love this but regular moviegoers will not be impressed.

Quick correction on the video. I meant to say the music sounds like it's pulled from "The Shining", not "Psycho". One thousand apologies for the mistake.
I didn't like Barbarian.
1,001 Do-Not-Accept-Your-Apologies! lol. :)
I loved it!!!
You are so right on with your review. I thought this movie was so weak, slow, boring at times and I felt the same about barbarian and talk to me.
i hated it as well
Wait, you’re telling me that if some random lady came to your house and said “congrats, you won this gift from the church! What is it? Oh it’s a realistic doll that looks like your daughter! Coincidence! Just make sure to keep it in your house cause ya know, everyone knows churches do this! Not creepy at all! Not unusual. Everyone would just let this happen ;)”…. So dumb.
Thank you!! I'm glad someone realizes how stupid that is- especially when someone goes up to the door of an FBI agent investigating a crime having to do with a devil worshipping serial k!ller. The movie looks good, but it is a pretentious mess overflowing with major plot holes. I was hoping this would be similar to The Silence of the Lambs. Boy, oh boy, was I wrong!
Yeah, like the FBI agent had seen a doll exactly like that before in the barn. Also, why wasn't there anyone else at the birthday party? They seemed like a pretty social, well adjusted family.
@roastbeefy0weefy Good point. It was weird that only the main protagonist was invited to the party. Doesn't the young birthday girl have any friends her own age to attend her birthday party?
I imagine we only see the 1 out of ten times it works
The “random lady” is dressed as a nun to trick ppl into trusting her. They don’t know what’s in the box until they bring it in for their kid to open it. At that point it’s already too late and Satan or whatever possesses the family.
Yo when they showed longlegs singing on the tv in the fbi office and then abruptly turned it off and said, "it goes on like that" i almost pissed myself from laughing
“For how long?”
“20 minutes.”
Oh is that significant to the plot or something? Nope!
@@lizalexander1164 "24 minutes"*
@@lizalexander116424 minutes she was turning 24
Eschewing all the psychological takes and just having it be "cursed black magic" really ruined the movie for me. Really? Fucking magic?
That's the same problem I have with the movie. I thought he would be just a straight-up serial killer. No hocus pocus.
Nah! Satan! Again! If it isn’t Satan it’s one of his demon minions. It’s getting a bit stale, isn’t it?
Exactly how I felt. It just fell flat with that "It was actually SATAN all along!" factor
"Turns out the devil was the bad guy "
LongLegs wasn’t a recluse…they knew him at that hardware store. It would seem that if you have a series of unsolved, grisly, bizarre murders…if I’m police or FBI IN that area……he might be worth talking just due to the EVERYTHING about him.
She even knew him as "the creepy guy"
To be fair, he wouldn’t be arrested cause he doesn’t actually murder them directly so it wouldn’t matter and probably has a clear past
@@gingerjesus7012 You have nothing to ARREST him on. But maybe…question him? He’s an accomplice and a witness.
Did they even explain why he called himself Longlegs? Also because he didn't murder them directly, what was their cause for arrest, a few letters, a suspicion of involvement, a hunch? I don't think that would hold for long. Actually I take it back, he did write a lot about one of the murders, I guess that?
@@geoffreypereira8024 the people who knew him at the hardware store just seen him as a weirdo/creep. Most likely a junkee if I seen him so I doubt they would report him to the police over just being an extremely weird customer specifically to the murders. So therefore the police can’t be suspicious of him without any actual proof
Can someone tell me why the killer is called longlegs? And also can they tell me how they found him just randomly stood on the side of the road with absolutely no explanation as to how they knew to look there? 😂 this movie was such a let down my god
Also - why did she not just smash the last doll up?
I was actually livid during that scene, That’s how you catch the Sadistic Satanic serial killer with 38 kills on his resume on the side of the road? What a massive fart this film was.
They actually found him btw because Harkers hoarder mother had the Polaroid that Lee took when she was younger. That’s all it took for police to start swarming I guess. This movie just gets worse and worse the more I think about it.
@@corychapman46 cheers man. It’s just so half arsed. Literally 0 effort in certain areas 🤣
Exactly what I was thinking. It would have been logical to find him in the basement of the mother’s house, but I guess that would not have worked for the ending, since they needed to reveal that he had been living with the mom for years. Damn this movie sucked.
Watched this tonight and left frustrated. There were so many cool elements and ideas but they DID NOTHING WITH THEM!
I also hated it. Slow, boring, just a mess. Nothing happens. I got up to grab snacks, waited in line, came back and didnt miss anything. I’m mad I paid full price to see this mess.
Good news for you though, fast and furious 18 comes out next year. Enjoy!

Soo glad im not crazy ! THIS SUCKED !!!
It really did suck
Bro I thought I was the only one too.
So yeah it was a Horror, Mystery, Possession type thing. So many questions. Is the little girl now possed by the Devil? What happens now to the Agent? Why was longlegs called longlegs? Why did he pick Her mom to work for him? Where's the Dad? I could go on lol
@ohq80 I stopped caring at " The Killer kills on girls birthdays" FBI Boss" How do we stop him ? Who knows...anyway my daughters birthday is coming up.."
we are gonna see more and more of the masses praising movies that suck because it’s true that people are becoming more and more stupid the further ahead into the future we go. Everything about this movie sucked.
Thank god someone agrees that it's fucking awful.
When nameless asian cop was with main FBI protagonist at the murder witness' house and said "you go, I'll just wait in the car", I almost nearly blurted "Cover more ground that way".
Literally anyone can guess what happens immeidately after.
The film was really predictable
Actually, the protagonist asked if she could go in on her own.
I also knew once the FBI guy introduced her to his family (like why insist??) ...again you can guess what happens to that family
Biggest eye roll of the movie. She goes “I’ll just go in, tell her she’s needed for questioning…” ……….. tension tension tension TENSHINNNN, her response?
“…alright. I’ll wait here” what a fuckin nail biter.
Main character also had a clear line of fire at the person she just saw murder with a fucking shotgun lmaoo. Instead she goes outside to get closer to her? Like what.
It started off great; intriguing, creepy and atmospheric... then it fell it apart at the half way point and became rediculous and silly
My exact thoughts, really great intro and setup. Shit climax and falling resolution
Exactly
The first half was fantastic. Completely went the opposite way after that.
fucking, hated it.
i LOVED the opening scene. but after that, TRASH
It was so silly it was stunned. No joke, there are episodes of Are you Afraid of the Dark and Goosebumps scarier then this damn movie😅
I love Barbarian but... this was frustrating. Felt like a student project. Dialogue was unnatural. Cage singing happy birthday on the evidence TV was painfully cringe. And what was with that psych ward girl's goofy accent?
Barbarian was fantastic so it just shows this guy has very little ability to appreciate different type stuff
Barbarian is fucking awful
@@joesymmonds631 "Sheeeit I been livin here more than fifteen years, and she ain NEVER came in this muthafucka"
yah its as if aliens or a.i. wrote the script not knowing how humans interact and operate..the most unrealistic and strange dialogue i have ever seen in a film
Barbarian was fucking trash lol you gonna have to retract that statement to get any credibility
At some point I thought “wait is this camp? Is this supposed to be funny?” This movie is indescribably bad.
It was hilarious! 😂 didn't quite hit camp because the cinematography was stunning but very close!
i felt like i was being pranked
So many moments I honestly though the joke was on me and this movie was a dark comedic send-up of horror-thrillers. Nope. This movie was so far up its own ass it was looking through its own eyeballs.
Thank you!! I thought I was taking crazy pills with everyone talking about how amazing Nick Cage's performance was. I kept having flashbacks of Ghost Rider during his scenes. My husband and I were laughing to ourselves whenever he was on, it was so ridiculous. That closing scene, I laughed so loud and laughed some more when I realized I was the only one laughing as the end credits came on. 🤦
yeah, hail satan 'smooch' lmfao, this was an epic nicholas cage comedy, his most over the top yet. I can't wait for his scenes to get uploaded
@@willhuck9179 That "Hail Satan" made me think of those adorable Satanic woodland creatures from that South Park episode. LMAO
Oh thank god… I had to suffocate myself in the theater during his performances. When the end credits rolled I laughed out loud. How was no one else laughing but me!? I can’t believe anyone found that performance scary…
@@randomness326 Yes! Any time someone say it was so creepy or scary or whatever. I was like did we watch the same movie?!
This movie feels like a bad adaptation of a book that doesnt exist
That’s a great analogy lol
That's actually pretty accurate.
lol underrated comment.. u know nic cage was in a decent serial killer movie..a real one called FROZEN GROUND about robert hansen..he was good in that
Spoile alert........
correct me if I'm wrong but Longlegs wasn't a serial killer, in fact he didn't kill anyone at all!
Well he was killing people before he showed up to the Harker house, he showed up there in 1974 and the first killing was 1966. He may have had another accomplice before Lee’s mother but that doesn’t seem likely. Lee also doesn’t appear to have a father figure, so maybe he had the mom make a deal with the devil instead of having the father kill the family? I don’t know lol
During her psych evaluation at the beginning they shoe her an inverted triangle and she says "father"
@@jacobbrown3479 Yes but wasn't he still killing them in the same manner? So he still didn't "kill" anyone. Hence why there was no physical evidence at all.

I haven't seen it yet. But, I have to give you credit. Nearly everyone from critics, to UA-cam reviewers, and cinephiles are all collectively riding this movie's dick like it's going out of style. Film fans can be brutal when people don't agree with them. It's like they automatically think their taste is being insulted. You're continuing to make your videos and being honest with how you genuinely feel. Regardless of if it seems like a movie fan minority opinion on social media. I respect that.
It's a good movie, this guy & his four friends are miserable as hell.
Either that, or they just didn't enjoy themselves. It's all subjective. I'll watch it and see how I feel myself. Like with anything. @@ardenaudreyarji
@@ardenaudreyarji Well its their opinion, if you dislike something that doesnt make you miserable, infact, Longlegs was miserable!
I'm so glad I'm not going crazy. I feel like I woke up in an alternate universe with all this critical acclaim. The movie is barely passable as entertaining. Definitely not scary. One of many times I've gone to the movies and wanted my time or my money back. It follows was way better.
True, and It Follows would be better titled "It Bores."
Welp. I decided to go with the critic's majority opinion, and I just saw the movie. And now I have nothing but regrets. It wasn't scary. It wasn't creepy. It was just stupid and slow. So if someone likes their stupid with a big dose of slow to really let the stupid soak in, they'll love this. But I'm just mad that I was persuaded to give them my money to see it.
It was weird watching it. Until the last scene I still didn't know if there really was a supernatural element or not. And why tf is the movie called Longlegs again ?
They tried to push every single button, basement, dolls, clowns, nuns, mind manipulation, slasher, satanic worship, faustian bargain, procedural, fbi, artsy, weird protagonist, sixth sense, sole survivor kid, occult, cryptology, blah blah, but none of them worked. It was the crappiest movie I've seen recently, and in one word it's just cringe. None of the scenes was scary, the serial killer was like a joke, nothing about the plot made sense to me. 2/10 and that's only for photography of the film
i mean... they all work, they literally just didn't work on any of them... they said 'hey heres a pattern for no reason, okay next thing we're not coming back to that' 'oh this guy kills himself and says hail satan for no reason' and nothing happens with that, no weird twist, its over and done... oh plot twist, exactly what's been happening happens again, but to the protagonists friend, and she literally watches it happen then lets it happen and kills everyone when she coulda just stopped it in the first place... zzzzzzzzzzzz
I'm grateful this some parts of this movie creep me out.. I'm really sorry to you
100% it tried so hard and did nothing
Wow, I am so happy to find your comment because I almost thought everyone enjoyed it. It actually is one of the worst movies I’ve ever watched. And also it was not scary at all, just cringy and dumb.
FR. it feels like it's lazily executed. Because the guilt is on the "demon" that possessed the dolls to explain everything that happened to the families. And boom, tragedies. There's no depths in the story
my biggest gripe is that the main characters did not realize that Agent Carter's Daughter's Birthday was taking place on the day the couldnt figure out?? Are you freaking serious?? I am sure i am not the only one who called it when she got invited to her birthday!! LIKE SERIOUSLY!
Seen this yesterday. Myself and my friend left the cinema early. Very disappointed.
Silence of the lambs it’s not. Agree about zodiac a 10 times better movie. This film is a waste of time.
She was a psychic genius, but she didn’t go downstairs in her own childhood home for 20 years?
have you even seen the film? the mom literally explains that the doll (devil) made her forget and tell her where to look… basically brainwashed her the entire time she was there.

I actually think I might not have disliked Cage’s performance if he just wasnt Nicolas Cage. It seemed appropriate for this character perhaps, but its still the same loud, crazy, overexaggerated, “not the bees!”, acting that we expect from him.
Sweet!!! I'm in.
I can't believe how much I don't not disagree with this comment. thanks for sharing.
Do you hate fun? he was awesome.
I actually think Nick Cage is a great actor. He gives it his all. It takes a director, editor, and producer to agree on a final edit. Nick cage good. Director/editor bad

Just saw this movie in theaters, it’s terrible
That was exactly what I thought of Longlegs . Just ridiculous.

You and I have the same taste bro. Barbarian had a good first half then turned into utter trash.
Longlegs is shit from the first minute.
I could not stay awake watching this movie and I kept trying because all the reviews talk about how great it is. It is horrible. It is boring. It is nothing but what I need to figure out now is how people think it’s a good movie. I cannot relate, even a teeny tiny bit.

Same. I thought this might be the movie to finally change my mind about him, but nope. Still an over-the top clown. The bad Marilyn Manson makeup didn’t help
Nicolas Cage got the Lisa Rinna special from the makeup crew.

I heard that she has spidey senses and that sounds stupid
The movie was not scary at all.
I think I'd have appreciated this movie a bit more without the legions of clowns and shills telling me that its one of the greatest films ever made. No. No, it really isnt. Its a mediocre indie film at best.
I was not impressed. Halfway through, I was praying for it to be over.

its like imagining a story for john wayne gayce but in reality he was just a loser, same shit
Longest 90 minute movie I’ve ever seen. Felt like I was watching titanic
You know, praying is worthless.
That makes no sense since the first half was amazing
i think the dumbest part was when she allowed her boss to kill his wife SHE LITERALLY HEARD THE DUDE SAY "im coming back but youre not." LIKE WHAT???
Bro same!! It was so fucking stupid and she literally saw her mom shoot her agent friend and all she does is gawk at her knowing full well she's possessing both the parents and the daughter.
@@kingoflepers she created the calendar ?? Wow
Well, her mum was telling her that all three of the family members have to die, otherwise her and her mum's souls would be going to hell forever. She was probably wondering whether she should let them die or save them. Obviously she gathered herself and decided to at least save the little girl.
I probably would have let them all die because I wouldn't wanna go to hell forever. 😂
I think that the wife was also possessed. I noticed the flinched when talking. Also, in one of the murders we saw that the mother was in sone sort of trance, while the husband committed the killings. Perhaps it was too late.

once again Adam you are the only critic I see who says my exact thoughts.
Appreciate this, it cuts like a knife through the fog of deification. Social Media is flooded with idiot "critics," my guard was up immediately when one was gushing about his earlier GRETEL AND HANSEL (dragged on and pretentious). For some reason nobody mentions SINISTER - a movie that 1) begins a crime procedural, shit taped to walls, old footage of family murders across the years, then veers into SATAN. But SINISTER was awesome!
The cure for this should be in about one month: ALIEN ROMULUS. Let's just say Fede Alvarez's EVIL DEAD remake was anything but 'arty.'
I am really surprised at how many people are praising this movie and Nic Cage's performance, I thought it was kind of awful. Seriously disappointed, the marketing promised something smart and twisted, this movie felt like "Nic Cage does a creepypasta story written by an edgy 14 year old."
It was a 10 until the third act... became a 5. Fuck the story and end was terrible.... The most generic lazy shallow reason for murders.
They advertised this movie as scariest film of the year, absolutly NOTHING was scary about this film, the only sinister felt was when they eyes of the dolls would look evil. Other then that the whole movies was very underwhelming. 1/10 wish id known it was nicholas cage woulda watched it.

1. What happened in the beginning when the man was shot and she went upstairs? We never find out what the heck that was about.
2. Why the hell is he called Long Legs? Because he attacks kids and he's taller than them?
3. Why do the cops not investigate this case sooner? It seems like it was going on for long time.
4. How does our main character magically know the cypher for this stupid notes?
5. Why didn't the main FBI dude talk about how his daughter was born on the 14th?
6. Why does our main character dress like she fell out of a thrift store?
There's so many more. Like nothing was explained in this movie and nothing was scary. COME ON!
This has got to be THE MOST boring horror movie i have ever seen! I actually fell asleep in certain parts of this snooze fest
I was fighting the slumber myself
I get skeptical anytime a thriller is under 120 mins. This movie was only 100 mins long. Not alot of time for development and explanation. And it showed. Any thriller/horror films that are around 90 mins are usually borderline bad or awful. You can have alot of success with comedies under 120 mins but thrillers need time. If this movie was just 20 - 30 mins longer it wouldve been alot better. Also, Cage should've been a sicko not a weirdo. Weirdos arent scary. Just my opinion.
If it was any longer I would have started manifesting demons in the cinema! Way too slow! Nothing happens until the last 15 minutes.
I saw it last night and didn’t like it. It was slow, kinda boring, not scary and very predictable! I thought I was the only one who hated it. Lee literally just stood there and let Ruby’s mom get murdered!
She also just stood there at the window, watching the officer get shot. Then took her sweet time going down the stairs after the murder. Hate this movie!
movie was slow and boring
Cage looked like if Tiny Tim and Marilyn Manson had a baby
Omg the disappointment. I've never left a theater so bummed until now. I should''ve known but curiosity killed this cat yet again. Too many negatives to list. I think the director knew he had crap on his hands hence the awesome bait and switch trailers to trick as many people into those opening weekend seats to make his money back ASAP!! Today's filmakers have everything at their disposal to help them make a good movie but if you're not the filmaker you're cracked up to be be then everything at your disposal doesn't matter. Like the saying goes: You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig. That applies to movies as well.
Dude thank you! I saw so many reviews of this movie and warnings to stay away from spoilers so I only worked half a day and saw the opening premiere at my local theater…and I was like WTF is this? Am I watching the same movie they did? It’s that type of movie where if there’s not something truly scary they’ll just blast some ungodly loud sound to scare you. I hate loud sounds and classical conditioning (which I assume is what they are trying to do?) doesn’t work for this, it just makes me hate the loud noises. What was so unsettling about NC’s weird glam rocker mask? I mean I don’t think it’s supposed to be a mask in the movie, it’s his real face but…so what? He’s only in it briefly and I agree with the young girl at the desk, he;so some weirdo. And the “spoilers” I’m assuming they were all staying to stay away from are revealed early on for anyone not completely incapable of guessing why someone would get a card, be able to translate an unknown alphabet, guess that maybe that little girl in the last is this lady now! Wow, how shockingly impossibly not done in other films before! So not impressed. Whoever said not to compare it to Silence of the Lambs was right on the mark - that was a classic; this is just stylistic weirdness that isnt a classic or clever or a masterpiece or any other superlative I’ve seen lauded on it. 2/10.
It’s a pile of horse shit

It stank. Nicolas Cage overacted like a cosplayer at Mall Haunted House.
So glad I found this!!! It’s such a terrible movie! How did they find the guy with just a picture took 30 years prior, with no name, no social media, no nothing? And the books? How come she pick up the exactly books and pages to know how to decipher the dates and letters? And where, where was that crowbar to begin with?????
This why Adam is one of the best reviewers, he doesn't try to spin his reviews, hes always brutally honest even when this movie is getting a 88 RT score. 🙄
Yeah, I'm getting really tired of the Denis Villeneuve-ification of movies (I know it's not just his influence, but he's kind of become the posterboy for me). Slow and vacant and mood-lit doesn't equal deep. Blade Runner is my favorite film, it's slow as hell, but it's serving a specific atmosphere. Most films that employ this now are just trying to avoid stepping on any "rakes" by not making any bold decisions.
Seriously, great points! Blade Runner is one of my favorites too.
why would that equal deep? If it's just the style of the movie, maybe the director wants it to be distinct from other horror movies, maybe it's the way of creating tension and setting up atmosphere etc.
THANK YOU
Villeneuve is an overrated bland director and his blandness is infecting other films

@@77Creation The cool thing about horror genre is that it’s so subjective. Probably one of the genre that has one of the most controversial opinions because not everyone can handle blood gore.
People that like this movie are the same type of person who farts, smell it, and likes it
please do tell us what horror movies you consider good. we’ll wait and laugh for when you list the most predictable, jumpscare bs that isn’t scary
I really enjoyed this movie, I’m going to see it again. If Buffalo Bill, Michael Jackson, and Charles Manson had a love child it would be Longlegs. Change my mind.
I never been so disappointed in a movie. The hype was a lie. I want my 2 hours back 😩
Even though I came in completely blind, I was still baffled by the opening title card which is a quote from a TRex song. Didn't seem to have anything to do with the movie based on what little I knew. And indeed it didn't.
I was genuinely shocked when the theater started filling up with mostly teens. I figured it looked really art house based on the trailers but it was mostly a packed show. While the audience was extremely vocal for all the wrong reasons during the Strangers movie, they were almost entirely quiet for the majority of this film. I was engaged with the premise but was severely let down by the end which felt like a series of contrivances. There is also a really ambiguous plot point regarding dolls that is not really explained.
Cage is the reason most people will remember this movie. It's an odd performance where he seemingly disappears into the role but his personality does shine through in some really unexpected moments. And his makeup was great. He looked like a mix between an aging Bette Davis and Buffallo Bill from Silence of the Lambs.
And they played T. Rex's "Bang A Gong" over the closing credits. Apparently the writer/director, Osgoode Perkins, was drawn to the glam-rock movement's use of horror/satanism -- "you've got the teeth of the hydra upon you" is certainly an unusual lyric for a love/lust song lol -- and I think it was also a major contributor to Nicholas Cage's look. Perkins definitely threw a lot of stuff/tropes at the wall, and the result was a mess, although I have to admit that overall I enjoyed the movie, mainly because I was surprised at how funny I found it. That final image -- of Longlegs blowing a kiss at the audience -- suggests to me that Perkins never meant us to take this movie as seriously as it was marketed.
PS What was the plot point regarding dolls that you felt was ambiguous?
@@JohnYoung-x6j *Massive Spoilers*
My impression of the doll was that when Lee's mother shoots it, Lee loses her psychic ability which was her own defense mechanism. Earlier in the film, the girl jumps out of the window days after they exhume her doll after previously being in a coma, which leads me to believe that neither Lee nor the little girl is safe in the end. Although we see Lee pass out after the doll is destroyed, we're left to speculate what type of power the doll has and why it seems to affect Lee and the other girl differently.
I'm not sure if Cage's appearance serves a thematic purpose but given that Lee's mother is his primary accomplice, either one or both may be under the same influence. My best interpretation of the end is that the mother becomes a willing accomplice ready to sacrifice her own daughter after Longlegs kills himself. During the interrogation, Longlegs may be taunting Lee by acting like her mother. However it can also be inferred that part of her may be trapped in Longlegs just like the girls are trapped in those dolls. Superficially, his character reminds me of Psycho and Silence of the Lambs, which are obviously films that inspired Perkins.
Some may like the heavy emphasis on the supernatural during the climax, while others may be disappointed that the film isn't the psychological crime thriller it appears to be for most of its runtime or the fact that there is no triumphant ending for the main character.
The possession stuff frustrated me. Not that it was in the movie to begin with, but that nothing about it made sense. Everything else was good. I especially loved the quiet, lonely scenes that built up dread (the house invasion, the library, the farm, etc.)
Indeed it did. Taken figuratively not literally about something monstrous of hydra and the devil in human nature and possession
Thanks for the good laugh Adam, as always....sorry, i had to come back here. Was that a shot with the POTUS on the wall?! Can we lose that forever in movies please?!
Hahha, of course. The fast way to remind people of the rough year it takes place.
I agree with most of what you’ve said here. In fact you captured more or less exactly how I felt about the film. However, I disagree with one point: I actually don’t think there is a story worth salvaging. It was one horror movie trope after another with some formulaic A24 seasoning. Utter garbage.
Barbarian was my favorite horror movie from 2022. And I hated Longlegs lol
30 year cold case and she solves it instantly.
Grew up born and raised by the killer.
the killers accomplice is a roommate in the basement.
The final target is her boss I mean, how many layups. This is just like Midsomer, where no logical human on earth would make any of these decisions or be able to pull any of this off.
Her character was somewhat of a psychic. But you probably missed that while edge lording in the theater.
Folks praising this movie, the premise was pure bs
@@77CreationWhich is never brought up again in the movie after the intro.
did you even watch the film bc you got most of that wrong !
@@jakedizzledidn’t know it had to be brought up multiple times for you to follow it but thanks for letting us know
Thank you! Thank you so effing much! This movie was utter garbage! SO bad! Especially Cage's performance! This is easily the most honest review of this movie I've seen.
"I hated Barbarian" - That's nice. It doesn't mean the movie sucked just because you didn't like it, though.
It's almost as if I'm giving my personal opinion on the film. I didn't say you couldn't enjoy it. In fact, I'm pretty positive I said many people will. It's good to have different viewpoints. I'm sure at some point in your life, you disagreed with the popular opinion. If not, well I'm not sure what that says about you, haha. I saw your next comment where you knock me further. That's fine. That care and good luck hunting down that critic that aligns with you 100%.
Adam, you’re spot on sir. This was an awful, boring, incompetent movie. It was worth walking out of. I haven’t seen all the movies you reference, but you have credibility with your take on this film.
I hate this movie so much that I will never ever admit I saw it because I am so embarrassed that I didn't walk out of this POS!! Horrible! I don't think I have ever hated a film like this piece of garbage!!!!!!
It suckz ass
But do you hate it?
The worst part they did a brilliant job, hyping it up for so long. I feel just like you do sorry last night and regret spending the money on it. Everybody in the theater walked out disappoint.
Spiderman across the spider verse was worse
Possibly one of the worst reviews I’ve watched in a long time.
It was boring as hell ..... This was not fun not scary so bloody predictable it was laughable..... God I hate this era of horror .... Fucking artsy bullcrap or over the top cheese...
Completely agree, Adam. Our family went to see it this evening, and I rue the day that hype/marketing really got its claws into the collective psyche because we were not only expecting something exceptional, but what we got was even less than par. Had it had a minimal marketing budget and simply been released without undue fanfare, I think it would have been received as something that was solid, with moments of inspiration, but ultimately uneven. Unfortunately the hype itself has made it seem worse by comparison. Solid, low-budget horrors that *are* worth seeing, imo: Blair Witch (of course), Paranormal Activity, Triangle.
This the guy that said Civil War was amazing 😂😂💀💀 now THAT was slow artsy garbage
What? Captain America Civil War was dope😃😆
BAHAHAHAHA so hes a liberal douchebag.
I feel like while filming, they changed how things were going to play out. There was a point in the movie where a 911 call was played by one of the murdering fathers, and he said something to the effect of his daughter “not being her” before her killed her. When they found that first doll and did the “autopsy,” my first thought was there was some psychic aspect of the doll that drove the families insane and convinced them their own families were not real.
Up to that point when they found the first doll, I was pretty captivated by the tone, cinematography, tension, and story. If the movie would have carried the psychic idea and used the ciphers (which ended being nonsensical), it could have been great. But the switch to the devil the way they did it felt like a cheap cop out of a resolution that they think didn’t pan out.
Finally an honest review. Hated every second of this film. Everyone in the theatre disliked it. You make very valid points. Thanks Adam for this review. This review is better than the film
Fair enough take, I admit that even I loved it, there were things that bugged me. Such as Maika Monroe's character. It's the same issue I had with It Follows. Both characters seem to just be in a trance the whole movie and don't have many traits. Also, some of the pacing was admittedly slow.
As for Nic Cage's acting, idk, I found his over the top nature to actually work this time around. It's clear that Longlegs is a nut, so it works in my opinion.
Thanks for the review, Adam! Keep it up!
Not to spoil it for those who haven't seen the film, but there is a reason for why Lee Harker acts the way she does. It's explained why certain "affected" characters act strangely, almost as if they are missing "themselves".
On that note, I loved the film!
good honest review I wont watch this
Couldn’t agree more. Just saw this movie with high expectations from the advertising and micro releases of info. It was terrible, you can see the lack of quality consistency in the dolls, there’s so many holes in the story it’s drawn out, it felt like someone who doesn’t like horror making a movie they think is all the things horror lovers expect to make money. It was poor, Nicholas cages character was painful to watch at all points of this movie. Huge let down. Was expecting to enjoy occult satanic concept and horror in a nuanced way.
You obviously do not have a trauma history. This movies’ strength is tension building, the way she kept breathing- I kept mirroring it and had to take deep breaths (not because I was bored or annoyed). And I left the film slightly dissociated. I thought Cage did an amazing job of being a unique bad guy. He wasn’t trying to be joker.
Trauma history?
Haha, it seems to be exactly what I thought. Pretentious crap. Got an Ari Aster and Robert Eggers feel from the trailers.
Do NOT lump Eggers in with them!!
You saved my wife and I from this movie. We were going to see it. I don't care for Nick when he is acting psycho. I hate it, as a matter of fact. Thank you!
what the hell did you think the movie was about 🤣 i literally don’t understand how you couldn’t have seen nick cage acting like a psycho being part of it? did you expect him to be quiet and reserved while playing a serial killer role? goodness me some of you are truly special
You're like the immature couple in the back that left 15 minutes in. Probably because the chick was trying to give him a handy and he couldn't get it up. That's you.
I’m so glad to see this video and its comment section. This movie was so bad I don’t get why everyone seems to love it
Great movie.. thought it was very well paced and interesting throughout.. no one laughed in my theatre either.
