Hi F.F. Bigbug! I made my first furled leader yesterday. Instead of the wooden jig I used some needels stiched into my couch. The result was not perfect but o.k. I now know that it is worth while building a jig.
Hi! Great video! I have a question about twisting the lines. At what point do the two separate sides (A - D, and G - D) actually twist together to form one single line? That is something i do not understand in your video. Any help is appreciated! Thanks! Tommy
Thank you very much. I will answer the question. From the time you remove the bobbin between D - C and D - E, twisting starts little by little. Furthermore, if snap of D is released from hand, it will be twisted vigorously.
Great video! I have 2 questions. 1. When you start drill at A then G peg you stop at a certain mark on the board to pin them down. How far forward is that mark? What is the cm after you use drill for A and G and pin them down? 2. What size fluorocarbon or mono line would you use on the jig for an 8.5 feet furled leader for large flies 20.32 to 30.48 cm long using a 10wt fly rod and line?
1. Twist with a drill until it becomes 10% shorter than the full length. 10% means that for a 5 ft (165 cm) Furled Leader it is 16.5 cm from A (G). But, Since 16.5 cm is not enough, I twisted it slightly more. If it is too much twisted it will break. The question of 2., translation was not successful. sorry.
Hey F.F. Bigbug, nice movie, thank you for that. I have one question, when you start to spin the threat with your drill, do you take off every pin at the same time or do you go step by step? thanks for your help
Thank you for watching the movie. The procedure to twist thread is as follows. 1. Before twisting with the drill, remove the B C E F pin from the sled and plate. 2. The thread only hangs on the pin between D ー A and G. 3. Then drill each thread of A · G and twist it.
Thank you for this video! Very helpful. During the last spinning step, when the weight is spinning, how far back up the line do you need to take the empty spool? Is it used to just keep the weight suspended so it can spin freely or do you have to slide the spool up the line a given distance?
I could not translate well, so it may not be the answer you wanted.I am about 1 cm in the loop of the root part. I am about 7 to 10 round trips of a thread at a distance of about 1 cm. The thread is about 20 cm from the bobbin. Please be careful not to hit your eyes and face when turning.
S E you need to do the full lenght of the line, its what makes them twist together to form the leader. Let it spin till the weight stops by itself or the lines will furl.
Hi, F.F. Bigbug. Thanks for your video. Even though it was published in 2017, it is very high-quality knowledge. Maybe, even more, today when we should do things more by ourselves and by hands. I may have misunderstood the presentation. The procedure to twist thread is as follows. 1. Before twisting with the drill, remove the B C E F pin from the sledge and plate. 2. The thread only hangs on the pin between D ー A and G. 3. Then drill each thread of A · G and twist it. Steps 1-3 I have understood. But do you also twist thread A to D and thread G to D together or does it come by itself? Thanks for your reply beforehand.
First, A and G are drilled in the same direction. Then, if A and G are fixed with pins and D is removed from the board as shown in the movie, the two D --A and D --G will be twisted automatically.
Sorry for the late reply. I am making a 5-foot leader with this video. Pin positions are asfollows. In the case of 5 feet A - B = 60(cm) A - C = 116 A - D = 165 G - F = 90 G - E = 139 You can change the length of the leader by changing the position of the pin. In the case of 6.5 feet A - B = 80(cm) A - C = 155 A - D = 220 G - F = 120 G -E=185 In the case of 7 feet A - B = 90(cm) A - C = 175 A - D = 235 G - F = 135 G - E = 205 In the case of 8.5 feet A - B = 100(cm) A - C = 200 A - D = 280 G - F = 155 G - E = 240 By the way, the language of this video is Japanese.

Well, I don't speak your language, but your video was easy enough to understand how to make a tapered leader. Great tutorial. Thank you for sharing.

@@f.f.bigbug3787 You are a fantastic asset for us who want to do our own leaders. Thanks a lot for I may use your time and knowledge.
Can i use this leader on 6wf line/rod?
Sorry late to this but looks like you make 10 lines between F and G is that correct?
Sorry for my late reply.
You rotate F-G-F 5 times, and it ends with G, so it becomes 11 pieces.
Can you please tell us how far the pins are away from each other because i didn understand chinese .
