The Grand Tower Inn Rama 6 is not very expensive to stay at..it's a classic style hotel for $22 USD per night and rather much a case of faded glory. Still, it's close to MO Chit bus station and Don Mueang airport, if you're wanting to stay close by after a long trip or close by for an early departure. Also there is a huge weekend market at nearby Chatuchak.
It's out of the main tourist areas and quite dated, but it's been 30+ years since you could get any hotel for $22 in the USA!
