    The "We Like It Here" clips are the best-shot and best-edited live-music videos of all time.

    • @owl23452
      @owl23452 8 років тому +36

      I hate the editing. Each shot lasts on average 3 seconds, which really sucks when you don't have an attention deficit disorder. I know most things are edited that way nowadays, I just can't stand it.

      @@owl23452 I'm sort of with you. However, given that there was no way to have one big static camera position that could properly cover every musician in the room, the editing was actually way better than I've seen on many other music acts regardless of genre. I feel like we never once miss any solos being played which is one thing that constantly pisses me off on other live video recordings. They have camera coverage of every musician here and they are amazingly almost never in the shots themselves. The fact that I never feel ripped off when somebody I want to actually see is playing a solo or a run is a testament to how good the editing really is here.
      One thing that really bums me out with the streaming age is that multiple camera angle options will never be available again. I have so many DVDs of concerts of my favorite bands and one of the coolest things is when they give you the option to pick which camera feed you want to watch. If you want to watch the drummer the entire song, so be it. It's almost a travesty that we will probably never get options like that again.

    With all respect for the work Sput is doing as Snarky Puppy's drummer, nobody can ever come close to what Larnell does on this record.

    • @bigsilentkid.3677
      @bigsilentkid.3677 5 років тому +16

      @NoPlaceLikeGnome Larnell hits grooves with a more solid backbeat than Sput. Sput is incredibly impressive as a player but Larnell just has the bottom end to really beef it up. Startling player.

    • @gustafsone
      @gustafsone 5 років тому +16

      @NoPlaceLikeGnome This has always blown my mind ever since I first heard about it. I know professional musicians can pull a performance out of their asses on the spot sometimes, but there is a huge difference between doing improv than having to memorize entire charts of music. I honestly have no fucking idea how Larnell could have done this in 3 days unless he had already played some of these pieces with the group before. I know Snarky Puppy is more of a collective of musicians that come and go according to their schedules, but if Larnell had truly never seen or heard any of this music before sitting in like this, it just makes his masterful performance even more masterful.

    It’s just so wild how well crafted the music from these sessions is. This guitar solo is in the same tier as Corey’s Lingus solo and basically everything Larnell does. That’s not to undersell Michael’s compositions or any of the other performers’ work, but Lettieri put on a guitar clinic in this one.

    So much is fantastic about this. Perfectly recorded and mixed. The video gets the intensity across. The music is exciting like going down the rapids you never know which way it's going to bend. The drive to create a unique youthful musical space combined with mature sophistication in technique shows up in the approach to solos.
    Obvious rhythmic mastery. An attractive harmonic arrogance, hear, smell these chords.
    The production wreaks of intelligence and all through it I get a sense that these musicians respect the frontier. Snarky Puppy...ahh, Besame Smucho.

    I highly recommend watching this video under the effects of LSD, the delicacy and fidelity with which one is able to merge with the instruments is something truly impressive, one can literally feel the emotions in each of Cory's solo notes, one way beautiful to explore the corners of our minds, without a doubt music is the lingua franca of humanity
