    A friend of mine just found this little treasure of my mother. Thank you to everyone for their nice comments. I was very close to her and was such a tough loss when she passed away. She was truly an amazing lady and I am glad this video is out there for the world to enjoy her as much as I did!

      Barbara Andre-Van Lith I only know your mother from these videos and talking about her with Laurie but she truly was a remarkable artist. That Bill would choose her as his very first Certified Instructor only goes to prove the point. Of all the artists associated with Bill during his television career she exemplifies the best of the best, IMHO. We intend to feature her more on our membership website (alexanderart.com) in the coming months.

      +Barbara Andre-Van Lith I first saw her on The Joy of Painting. I love her videos that I have seen. She seemed to really love what she was doing. I mentioned her on the first episode of my show. After watching some of her videos I went to read all about her and read that she lived in Oregon. I was sad to learn that I couldn't meet her, but she has given me a great gift. I'm so glad to see her videos online and for sale.

      +The Salem Painter
      Thank you for your kind words about my mother and her painting. She was quite the lady and she was able to have a great career as an artist and also raise a child on her own. We lived in Salem and Dallas for all of my childhood until we relocated to Washington. She traveled all over the US teaching the wet on wet technique. I always remember the smell of oils and paint thinner wafting throughout the house. At the age of 40 she was diagnosed with a rare disease called Guillain-Barre' Syndrome that completely paralyzed her and the recovery was years and fully never recovered. She was not able to paint for most of the rest of her life as she continued to battle GBS and a snowball of other health issues when she passed in 2008 at the age of 59- 1 month after she was able to see my son born. She truely was a remarkable woman and this youtube posting and all of the wonderful comments really help me cope with the extremely large hole in my heart. Again thank you for offering your kind words.

      +Barbara Andre-Van Lith I hope that some day I can be as good as her! I think that the best thing about her videos is her personality. It's kind of like the way people watch Bob Ross for his soothing voice. She captivates me in a way that won't let me fast forward to the end once I start watching her. I have only been in Salem for two years. I really like it so far. I came here from the Georgia/Alabama area. Do you know of any places around here where her work is displayed? I'd definitely like to see it in person!

      +Barbara Andre-Van Lith --- I saw her on Bob Ross's series about a month ago on youtube and then saw her in this video and she had such a good laugh :). I was heartbroken when I found that she had passed in 2008. God bless her soul, I wish I could have studied under her teaching

    I have only learnt about Diane since starting to watch Bill (having stumbled upon him and his exciting and excitable art about two weeks ago) and how much I admire her light spirit and rapport with Bill. I found them having been made redundant five weeks ago, after being a Bob Ross fan for nearly 20 years. I am sad that both her and Bill, and Bob Ross have all passed away. More so her and Bill, as they have lifted my art spirits. Thank you - their programmes and paintings will stand the test of time.

    When Diane finished the painting and the camera panned out, it actually looks like the painting is part of the background. That was surreal.
    I can tell she was such a great teacher. Diane can really get anyone excited to paint.

    I really like the point that Bill made about owning art, you can buy the most expensive painting there is but it may not mean anything because half the value of art is the experience you have in creating something yourself, you could get more enjoyment in hanging your own paintings in your home than you could with original Picasso's.

    So glad to come across the original Happy Painter! And this lady as well, another one to search for now :)
    Mr. Alexander, wow! His vision is incredible. Love his running commentary, "firing in it", singing, just pure joy. Fun to watch.
    Learn color-schemes, mixing, and composition where you will. Bill reminds us to get in the right frame of mind, and have a good time.
    And can't fall asleep on this guy, he will wake you up!

      ---was thinking of one of my favorite quotes, " True creativity comes from enjoying the moments, which then fulfill themselves." ---- Mr Bill certainly demonstrated that idea, adjusting as you go while following the vision, living in the moment and enjoying it!
      I remember watching him on PBS television when I was younger, and never forgot him. It's great to have these videos available here.
      The almighty brush! "and....and.....and..." welded by an expert who just had fun doing what he did, and sharing what he could.
      Rest peacefully Mr Alexander. But not too awfully long--- there's more beauty to describe with a single stroke. See ya on the flip!

    I'm quite impressed with Diane's method. She doesn't clean her brush during the highlighting and it looks super the many times she changes the color. I love it. The only thing I'm wondering is that the Liquid White must be really contaminated and must not be white after she finishes the painting. Today that little can of Liquid White is about $18. I can get it for about $12 with a 40% off printed coupon at Hobby Lobby. What say ye "Wet on Wet" professionals, about the Liquid White getting contaminated? Anxious to hear from Y'all!

    • @davidseter1780
      @davidseter1780 5 років тому

      Not sure if I understand your concern correctly here, but I bought a big can of liquid white and a smaller tube of liquid white. I put a blob or two of liquid white on my canvas from my smaller tube to use throughout the painting so my can does not get contaminated.

    • @anthonyhargis9411
      @anthonyhargis9411 5 років тому

      @@davidseter1780 David Seter I experimented with her method and the liquid white is so much thinner that it comes out on the brush without any of the color on the brush being left behind to mess up the can of liquid white! Thanks for your idea, Sir.

    Do You know that paints in 50 will be transparent? A black background will be visible fully.

    • @AAlexanderArt
      @AAlexanderArt  9 років тому +1

      Not true, my friend. And the reason is the paint. The quality that goes in to the Alexander line of paint is absolutely unparalleled. We use the purest pigment money can buy and a special proprietary clear (that means non-yellowing) oil. Check out our Newsletter video Vol 1, No 3 - Part 2 to learn more. We went back to the Old Masters and learned how to make paint the way they did. Their paintings are as vibrant and fresh as when they painted them over 500 years ago. The problem with paint today is that most paint manufacturers don't care whether your paintings last five years, let alone 500 years. Why do you think most fine artists make their own paint? Bill Alexander was "Old School", he learned from the Northern Germany tradition of Dürer, von Eck, Holbein, Cranach. And, of course, the tradition of the Netherlandish and Italian renaissance painters was also part of his background. He knew what good paint was and insisted on the best quality paint possible. I apologize if this is turning into a commercial for Alexander paint but that's how passionate we feel about our paints and how passionate we are about our artists. Only the best for you, my friend!!

      Alexander Art It is not my thoughts .This is physico-chemical fact. Upper opaque paint will be transparent. And black background bowels out. Great artist Velazquez has a picture where the horse has 8 legs.

      There is a torrent out there that has every single show he's ever done, including the elusive Season 1. Be prepared though; altogether, the shows equal up to about 95GB.
      I only wish I could find an archive of Bill's videos. I grew up on Bob but Bill is definitely the master.

      Calhoun Tubbs We're working on it. Try this link: alexanderart.com/videos/
      We have approximately 400 videos on the way. All of Bill's shows were digitized but we have to edit them and get them up on the website. It's going to take some time but these will get you started.

      savammy, that's something you'll have to take up with the Bob Ross company. But I have never seen a full length video by Ross on UA-cam or anywhere else. If you want to see a full length Ross video, you're going to have to pay for it.
      We'll have more full length videos coming...stay tuned...

    do not get paint on your hands all the time.. its very hazardous to your health. Was watching a Diane Andre vid just now and saw all the paint she got on herself.. man.. oil paints (especially in her day) had lead and cadmium and all sorts of pigments that accumulate in your body if you get it on your skin all the time.. please.. if anyone wants to be an artist, treat the paints carefully and ventilate your rooms... look after your health. You can do this by always ventilating and keeping paint off your hands as much as possible.. only saying this because people are learning terrible habits from so many youtube artists. Its horrifying. Look after your health everyone. (this isn't an ocd thing.. I don't care about germs or mess etc.. I just know that art supplies should not be allowed to coat your hands if possible. this was taught to me during my fine art diploma studies.

    "Alexander" technique is called alla prima and was invented in the Netherlands in the mid-1600's. Seems Bob, Bill, Diane, and all the rest of the wet-on-wet painters stole it from real artists. 😡
