Wen has 110 inch 2@55 inch for about $70 or less on sale. For dust control I got a cover for the opening. This improves it dramatically but not perfect, yet. With a track square it’s a dream
I've been sold on the WEN track saws for a couple years now and have been using the cordless version for several months and really like it. I agree to your conclusion on the unique battery platform, but I now have their cordless biscuit joiner, so the batteries are starting add up. Great job. Scott
I saw that biscuit joiner and was intrigued. That or the planer will probably end up a future vid. I saw you did a video on this one, comes up on my feed. Now that Ive done it I'll check out your video. Thanks for watching!
@@ProjectsForAllReviews Your video was MUCH better than mine. I already covered both versions of the corded WEN track saw, so when this one came out I didn’t feel the need to run it through its paces on video. I’ve used it quite a bit since, and really do think it’s handy, but I have run into situations where I needed fresh batteries, so ultimately I need to buy either another battery or another tool that includes a battery so that I have two complete sets. Scott
Thank you for pointing out the biscuit joiner. I am picking this up and was hesitant to invest in a new battery ecosystem (I'm currently in both Ryobis and M12), but that sounds like something I will use infrequently and would me extra value from these Wen batteries.
The Ryobi track saw needs a redesign. It's cheaply made and wobbles out of square on its cheap saw table base. Also why does Ryobi only have a 50" track length, rather than Wen track saw that is 110" track length? Why?. Plus Wen is twice as powerful with 40v cordless brushless power. 😊
They are offering a new fast charger and I'm glad you did this one of my health improves and can afford one the 40v wen is what I was looking at and all I was waiting for is someone to review one thank you for this in will help me when I can get one
Should have a follow up video soon. Faster charger, dust collection accessory and accuracy when beveled test. Feel better Chris and thanks for watching!
I picked up the WEN 7+ inch corded track saw (with Powertec tracks). Very satisfied with it, cut quality is just as you describe--nothing to miss compared to high-cost brands. Corded is fine for those who are using a dust hose anyway (and enables remote start/stop of the dust extractor). Thanks!
It's true and I have mostly good things to say about the few we've tested so far. We'll definitely be doing more Wen in the future. Thanks for watching Michael!
I have the Wen corded track saw... I like it. I don't do beveled cuts with it. It seems too wobbly. But for straight cuts on plywood... it's pretty nice.
I love my cordless WEN saw. MILES ahead of Ryobi's saw. I did get the dual-battery charger with mine and was disappointed that it's not able to be attached to the wall like my DeWalt chargers. It annoyed me so much that I designed a wall mount for the charger. I have them on my website if anyone's interested.
I found the Wen CT1272 7-1/4" track saw in open box condition for $50 over the weekend. Plan on going with these Powertec tracks. But I wanted to note, Wen has a 110" pair of tracks now too like Powertec. Not just the 100" pair, though they are still for sell too.
GREAT review! i've had my eye on this saw because of the price vs other brands. I'm fully into the DeWalt cordless platform and I'm curious if they make a battery adapter that would fit this track saw. if you or anyother woodworker have answer please shareit. TIA
I have this saw. Made the mistake of buying the WEN tracks in trying to save a measly $50 (over the Powertec). I was making a "wood slat wall" project. I ensured the screws holding the 2 track pieces together were properly tight, and my super long ruler confirmed it was straight. The first ~20 wood slats I cut from my plywood were very straight. But all my slats after that have a very slight bow in the middle (becasue the track is slightly bowed or something). My bad that I should've periodically checked the straightness as I was cutting the plywood. So 20 of my wood slats are straight, and the other ~80 have a slight curve. I can deal with the slight curve, but for some people who can't deal with it, it means ~$200 worth of plywood was wasted becasue of the cheap WEN tracks. Moral of story - don't try to save a measly $50 but end up wasting hundreds of $ when you're working on future projects.
I’ve used many different tracks now from super cheap Wen to comically expensive Milwaukee and many in between. The point that stands out the most for me is that they are all almost the same. They are the same design and form, lock together the same and all have been laser straight when connected. The only difference I’ve found is the quality of the foam on the bottom and price. The Wen has a two piece connector that’s different than most and is a design I like but maybe it caused your two tracks to become misaligned? Thanks for watching!
I'll go for the Wen, cause the track is same as the Makita and Festool. I'm sure there's a battery adapter somewhere online. I'll check and see if the blade is parallel to the base, When I brought my Makita, the base is off by 32nd, and could only tell then I did Plunge cut. I think it's their way to combat kickback.
WEN also has available a bench sander which got very good reviews. As for me the only negative I see is the absence of a riding knife which could potentially avoid kickbacks.
Thank you. Nice review. Something I’d like to know is how it does on 45 degree bevel cuts. The corded version was shown to have so much play that it wasn’t viable for such a cut. The play was between the upper unit and its base; it wasn’t about stability on the track. Any chance you could try it and post an assessment? Thanks.
Hello all! I do expect to post another short vid on this saw soon addressing dust collection testing the 5 amp charger and we’ll throw in some bevel cuts for both this and the corded saw. Thanks for the comments and for watching!
@@ProjectsForAllReviews awesome thank you. BTW I just bought the skil table saw based on your review and I'm really happy with it. Thank you for your great reviews
I'm a woodworker and use the Ryobi platform for my shop and some lawn equipment (it's a double win). So I wouldn't buy the cordless version of any track saw except for Ryobi. After seeing all the positive reviews on the Wen, I would still go with the Ryobi.
Cordless tools have become an insanely competitive market over the last 20 years or so and it’s been great for pricing and innovation. It’s really benefited all of us whether you switch brands or stay with the old tried and true. Thanks for watching Daniel!
I have the Wen that takes a 8 1/4 blade. I also bought the powertec rails after watching reviews. I then bought a rip and cross cut diablo blades. I've been too busy to do anything with them so I can't comment on performance. I get the idea of cordless power tools but if you're running a dust collector, you have a massive cord behind so why not just use mains power? What's an extra wire? Just clip it to the vac hose.
It's true that if you're indoors hooked to a vacuum the cord isn't a big deal. If I was working for real and not making a video, I would be 100% using this saw outside with no dust collection. Even in winter it's better than trashing the garage IMO. Thanks for watching!
Great overview Mike! 2 things, Wen has a newish 55in track that I have. Pad seems more sticky (not sure though, never touched the smaller track) and I like the connector better than the Powertec. Not sure of the longevity of a steel grub against the aluminium track. Second I designed a dust cap for the corded that looks like it would fit the cordless. If you have access to a 3d printer, it's a thing I vers model that's free to print. For my use, Wen track saws just work, no need to overpay to mostly process ply. Cheers!
Hello! I haven’t seen that larger track and I’ll have to check the website. Not sure what Wen was thinking with the 50 in but for $65 it’s hard to complain too much. I was thinking about doing a short follow up vid with a 5 amp charger and something to improve dust collection.if you’d like email me the link for the dust cap. If it works I’ll put it in the vid and give you a shout. Projectsforall60630@gmail.com Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for the review. I bought the saw based on your review. The WEN saw has an odd dust port as it doesn't fit the common Ridgid hose end. What modification did you do to connect the saw to the shop vac? Thanks.
For me, between the charging time and the price difference, I think I would prefer the corded version . Wen seems pretty good about updating and redesigning their products every few years, maybe they will add some of these updated features to the corded versions in the near future.
I took both apart last night and the metal side covers and metal housings are identical, same mold I'm sure. the shoe is the same except for a few updates. The only real difference is the kick back safety that Wen removed for the cordless version and a little better track to saw adjusting design. Remove the kickback safety and install a 48 tooth blade (my corded came with a 24t blade) and they are the same. Thanks for watching!
I purchased the Makita corded track saw. It’s a very nice saw, but I almost think I should’ve saved some money and went with the WEN because I don’t use it near as much as I thought I would. Especially after I got the Dewalt 10” table saw. But alas, it’s paid for now, 😆. Love your channel.
I too have the 2x18V cordless Makita with PowerTec rails and love it. Zero issues or complaints. I looked long and hard at the WEN, but most reviews showed that the saw flexes too much... the base plate moves slightly compared to the higher end saws. The Makita cuts 3/4" hardwood flooring like butter. IMHO for the price the WEN is fine for DIYers, but I needed accurate sheet good cuts so that I don't have to re-cut on my table saw. I use it all the time to cut down 4x8' sheets before I can get them down into my basement workshop.
Good review, matches almost exactly with my thoughts on it after using it almost daily for the past 3 months. Battery charger sucks, and dust collection is blah. Other than those 2 things it’s been amazing.
There’s a 5 amp charger on Wens site for about $35. I’ll probably grab it and something to improve dust collection and do a follow up vid. I really like this saw and plan on keeping it. Would be nice to improve those two issues. Thanks for watching!
There’s definitely an uphill battle for companies new to the cordless game. It’s expensive to switch platforms and most folks won’t bother unless there’s a serious advantage. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Frank! Still need to do the follow up on this one! Where does the time go?? My buddy dropped off some dust collection caps he 3D printed just yesterday so hopefully soon. Got the Ryobi track saw in the shop in the box. We’ll get to that one soon too. Thanks as always for watching!
Another good job, Mike! Hey I must have missed some of your stuff, looks like you're maxxing out the pack out gear. One of the frustrations I have with track saw tracks is that when you have a different with kerf on your blade, you have to make the clearance cut match. After doing that twice, one generally has to replace the strip and I find that to be a pain in the neck.
It’s true when swapping blades you should definitely check the clearance to the strip or use the same model blade forever. Could have made the difference in cut quality when I switched to the 56t blade and compared. Solid point. That Flex Stackpack in the back is waiting for it’s review. Should be in a few weeks. Have a Skil 1/2 in impact and tower light up next. Thanks for watching Meat!
They might sell a USB slide on for the batteries as WORX does to take to a picnic or other event? Yeah I like their blades also; purchased a couple as spares.
Love your reviews! It’s really hard to get a sense of how loud these are. (Not just this review.) would love if you could add some kind of db meter to your testing.
Thank you! Jump to 11:20. 96.2 db max. Averaged 91-95 db. I like I’m sure most UA-camrs decrease the volume drastically in the videos because it’s very loud and pretty annoying. Most of my newer vids and all going forward will have a sound test. Thanks for watching!
One con with the Wen cordless track saw is the arbor is 20mm and will not allow for a Diablo blade which has a 5/8” arbor hole. A saw blade upgrade is impossible because of this.
Mike, I have the corded version on the older Powertec track system. Mine came with only one track connector but the Wen track clamps work perfectly. I will see if E-bay has additional rail joiners. For dust control, a small piece of clear poly taped to saw on 2 sides gets it done. Nice review & where's the orange cat?
Thanks for the feedback! Check out the WEN brand connectors. You can see them in my Milwaukee Tracksaw vid. They use a two piece connector and the set screws tighten on the second metal strip causing it to expand. Much better design than the industry standard like the Powertec that tighten down and dimple the aluminum rail. I have the link for Wens 5 amp charger in the description. I'll order one today so we can see the improvement. Watch for a follow up vid. Thanks for watching!
I bought the Kreg tracks a couple-three years ago. They come with a universal sled that also fits the T-square they sell. In honesty, I have used it for one project. I use the T-square all the time. Two Phillips head screws and ten seconds later, my Makita cordless circular saw is secured. Easy-peasy. Knowing what I know now, I would not have purchased the tracks. I am fully cognisant of the fact that the above statement is counter to current sheet goods handling standards. I don't care. I do fine with the T-square. Perhaps thirty years of breaking down sheets has taught me serviceable ways to cut sheets, or maybe I am old and set in my ways. I just think I would have been better served by buying 3 sheets of Baltic Birch than buying the track.
Haven’t used that Kreg setup but I imagine I’ll get to it eventually. Don’t feel bad. I’m getting old and am set in my ways too. If I hadn’t fallen into this tool review gig I’d still be clamping a level to plywood and using a circ saw. It’s free and it works! 😂 Thanks for watching!
Interesting question! I don't have a Makita battery to test....yet. Possibly I can borrow one. Planning to start doing Makita tools very soon. Thanks for watching!
As always amazing review, just one question. I remember that on some videos said that the corded version has some wiggle when you put it on 45° giving you not precise cuts at this angle, does this cordless version have the same issue? I was really expecting to see a 45 cut test on your video. thank you again.
I’m planning another video with both these saws and we’ll address the flex at 45 along with dust collection and check out the 5 amp charger. Thanks for watching!
@@ProjectsForAllReviews first of all thank you for all your very complete and honest videos, I just wonder if you will release the video of comparison you mentioned on this comment 😬, or i would like to get your opinion of which of this saws is better in power, and also on the topic of the flex at 45°. thank you in advance.
@javier-pr3mr We’ll get to it eventually but I keep getting more stuff to review and my schedule holds me to 1 vid a week. At least for the foreseeable future. I still have both saws. Thanks for watching!
@@ProjectsForAllReviews I understand and thanks for your reply. Just in general terms, have you seen an improvement from the corded version to the cordless one other than the battery vs cable?
I have the WEN corded track saw which is perfect for what I do, but I would never buy the Cordless. The problem with these cheap chinese brands is the batteries are always sub-par. They die in a very short amount of time and end up costing you more than buying a better product in replacement batteries. My dewalt Tool kit I bought (drill, impact, sawzall (I know, but it's easier to spell) circular saw and light) about 10 years ago is still going strong. The batteries still last as long as when they were brand new.
I think most would agree the name brand batteries are best. I have Milwaukee batteries that have to be 14 years old and haven't lost enough useful life for me to notice a difference from new. Time will tell on the Wen and I'll let you guys know if there's trouble because I plan on using that saw a lot. Thanks for watching!
Needing a vacuum hose hooked basically defeats the advantage of being cordless. I am almost certain that a power cord would be more flexible and less cumbersome than a vacuum hose.
Both are a little annoying but so is trashing the garage so I usually hook up the vacuum. At least with a track saw you don’t have to worry about the hose messing up the cut. Thanks for watching!
I agree. I’ve reviewed 4 track saws now, 2 with and 2 without riving knives. While a nice feature, I have yet to be in a situation where I thought it saved my butt or wished it was there. Good setup and proper technique help too. Thanks for watching Griffin!
Personally I wouldn’t move to the Ryobi because I have the batteries since the Ryobi is nearly twice as much as the Wen. Cheaper just to have the dedicated batteries
I purchased both the corded versions of the Wen track saw, they both had issues with the pot metal (poor construction) and unfortunately both broke within hours. The cordless version construction and durability is much better in comparison, and has been working great for me. I am extremely happy I returned the corded versions and spent a bit more for the battery powered version. I also purchased the Powertec guide rails. Those are not great as the adhesives holding the rubber on the back started losing adhesion very quickly.
Thanks for the insight Matt! The 6.5 corded and cordless saws are basically the same saw. The cordless does have some smart updates and fit/finish/quality has improved. I still think the cordless is worth the $85 bump in price. Thanks for watching!
I knew I forgot something! Apparently neither blade is sold on Amazon and both are out of stock on Wens site….🙄 If I find them elsewhere I’ll link in the description. Thanks for watching!
Hello and thanks for the comment! I’m planning another vid with both the corded and cordless versions to address dust collection, body flex and charging. I’d love to throw your accessories in for a test. Hit me up at projectsforall60630@gmail.com
You're looking at the 10 amp corded saw for $100. Check my channel I have a video on that one too. I didn't find this saw on HDs site. If you buy the Wen tracks check the option on HD and you can switch to 110 inch tracks for an extra $3. Trust me it's worth it! Thanks for watching!
there was a day when i wouldn't even consider another brand of cordless tools because to me dealing with multiple tool brands that each have their own proprietary non-interchangeable batteries is just plain stupid so for a long time ryobi was the best bang for the buck so for me it was ryobi or nothing. fast forward 20 years and ryobi is now the worthless fat soon to be ex that keeps wanting more and more money while having less and less to offer so if a company like WEN can get their battery systems straightened out and efficient then i'd have no problem buying their cordless products but right now, having a saw that needs over 4 hours to charge the battery's is just not an acceptable option......
I started out with a set of blue Ryobi tools about 25 years ago. I was pleased with them until I got into remodeling and realized there were better options for everyday use. Nowadays the tool industry is jammed with competitive options and it benefits all of us at all levels. That charge time was absurd and I’ll have to pick up Wens 5 amp charger to compare. Maybe I’ll grab some accessories to improve the dust collection and do a follow up vid. Thanks for watching!

@@ProjectsForAllReviews would be really great to watch a follow up video, I'm really interested about this saw.
5:01 Left Handed Thread is "Regular"?
What a great price I would definitely get this but there’s a big but. I am already in another battery platform. Great review. Thanks.
There’s definitely an uphill battle for companies new to the cordless game. It’s expensive to switch platforms and most folks won’t bother unless there’s a serious advantage. Thanks for watching!
Like your videos, haven't seen any reviews on miter saws...... or did I miss them?
Can you please review the Ryobi track saw, your reviews are more thorough and are trustworthy. Thank you!
The Ryobi is on my short list for track saws and I’m sure we’ll get to it soon! Thanks for watching!
Tracks lookin' pretty.... standard
Best review ever
Thanks Frank! Still need to do the follow up on this one! Where does the time go?? My buddy dropped off some dust collection caps he 3D printed just yesterday so hopefully soon. Got the Ryobi track saw in the shop in the box. We’ll get to that one soon too. Thanks as always for watching!
@@ProjectsForAllReviews - Matt at 731Woodworks has a guy for caps and stuff too if those don’t fit right.
Time flies when you’re having fun.
@thefrankperspective4247 These we’re from plans provided by a viewer. They fit perfect I’ll mention him in the vid
@@ProjectsForAllReviews Looking forward to both. Thanks, Mike.
Great Review! Always look forward to your content
I appreciate that! Thanks for watching!!
Thanks to your review I bought the saw
Hope it works out well for ya! Thanks for watching George!
What’s your preferred method for squaring the track to the workpiece?
They might sell a USB slide on for the batteries as WORX does to take to a picnic or other event? Yeah I like their blades also; purchased a couple as spares.
Thanks for watching!
@@ProjectsForAllReviews Great, thanks. Not sure how I missed that!
Forgot to mention I installed a 60t Diablo blade.
Wen now offers a 5a single battery rapid charger. If you are doing a lot of cutting you would need two to keep batteries up to work load.
I bought this but haven’t used yet.
Do Makita batteries not fit Ven?
Interesting question! I don't have a Makita battery to test....yet. Possibly I can borrow one. Planning to start doing Makita tools very soon. Thanks for watching!
@@ProjectsForAllReviews thank you
POwer-Tec plastic strips will come un-glued if you keep them in a non air-conditioned shop or garage..
Something to look forward to! It’s plenty hot and humid in Chicago. If that happens I’ll let you guys know.
Does it have a riving knife?
Nope. No riving knife on this one.
Thanks for watching!
well done!
Thanks for watching!!
The only thing it doesn’t have is a riving knife, but coming in at under $200, I’d take that trade off.
I agree. I’ve reviewed 4 track saws now, 2 with and 2 without riving knives. While a nice feature, I have yet to be in a situation where I thought it saved my butt or wished it was there. Good setup and proper technique help too. Thanks for watching Griffin!
I’ve found that if you make a first shallow starter cut, I never get kick back no matter how thick I’m cutting
Personally I wouldn’t move to the Ryobi because I have the batteries since the Ryobi is nearly twice as much as the Wen. Cheaper just to have the dedicated batteries
Yup! That's the uphill battle all newcomers face when jumping into the cordless market. Thanks for watching Lance!
Was just looking for your review on this. Still haven’t found them for sale.
I bought this one on Wens website but also available on Amazon. Check the links in the description. Thanks for watching!
Link to track saw blade?
I knew I forgot something! Apparently neither blade is sold on Amazon and both are out of stock on Wens site….🙄 If I find them elsewhere I’ll link in the description. Thanks for watching!
@@ProjectsForAllReviews Sounds good. Any link or recommendation for a good track saw blade is most appreciated.
10:54... looks like squid ink spaghetti falling off of that thing
Lol! Always a giant mess!
@@ProjectsForAllReviews ALWAYS. Least it doesn’t flake and explode in all directions like Kreg’s
Nice review. I sell the accessories for it. If you want I can send you some to test.
Hello and thanks for the comment! I’m planning another vid with both the corded and cordless versions to address dust collection, body flex and charging. I’d love to throw your accessories in for a test. Hit me up at projectsforall60630@gmail.com
Why the powertrack track
We looked at the WEN track in the corded track saw review. Figured why not check out a different option. Thanks for watching!
Saw $100 and track $65 in Home Depot , unbelievable 😂
You're looking at the 10 amp corded saw for $100. Check my channel I have a video on that one too. I didn't find this saw on HDs site. If you buy the Wen tracks check the option on HD and you can switch to 110 inch tracks for an extra $3. Trust me it's worth it! Thanks for watching!
Thanks
Get a diablo blade mon
there was a day when i wouldn't even consider another brand of cordless tools because to me dealing with multiple tool brands that each have their own proprietary non-interchangeable batteries is just plain stupid so for a long time ryobi was the best bang for the buck so for me it was ryobi or nothing. fast forward 20 years and ryobi is now the worthless fat soon to be ex that keeps wanting more and more money while having less and less to offer so if a company like WEN can get their battery systems straightened out and efficient then i'd have no problem buying their cordless products but right now, having a saw that needs over 4 hours to charge the battery's is just not an acceptable option......
