Thanks, on the right side I removed it from the bike used a Dremel with a cut off wheel. Then cleaned it up with some sand paper. On the left side I just used a razor blade wile leaving the grip glue to the bars.
On the throttle side, did you have to also cut the throttle plastic housing? I notice when I cut off the rubber with a dremel there is still a white plastic tube inside.
@@jlspowersportshobbies4568 Thanks very much for helping with this project. I cut it off cleanly but ended up taking off a little more than needed. Oh well, at least there will be no throttle sticking on my bike. 😀 I do have a bit of bare metal now at the tip, which I will touch up.
Cutting the throttle made me realize how much free-play came stock. Don't know if you all have this issue as well. Anyway, I tightened it up using the screw/bolt and I found the throttle response much better today when I was off roading.
@@dannichols67 Stealerships get paid for setup they do a HORRIBLE job of. It's a bogus fee they pocket and deliver you a bike you have to turn around and setup yourself.
look for the zeta triple clamp mounts to mount the guards to the triples and clean up the bars a little. Thats if you can find them. I have been waiting to find them in stock anywhere. Your bike is looking killer. I just recently ordered a TON of new parts for my 300L but its to darn cold for me to get out and wrench. The OEM bar setup, literally everything about it was my worst riding experience. I have the protaper CR high bends on order with pillow top grips and im going with one double take mirror. As far as the skid plate another youtuber I watch installed a acerbis for a 250l on his 300l. All that was needed to do was drill 2 new holes in the mounting bracket. I have one on the way as we speak. Its like 60 bucks.
Thanks! The zeta mounts are nice. I'll likely use them when I swap to fat bars in the future. I'm 5' 6-7" so the stock bar height and bend I'm fine with. I'm looking at a set of powermadd mirrors. I used them in the past and they take a beating. Then I did order the Acerbis 300 skid. Prob be a couple weeks till I get it. No hurry because everything is in a deep freeze here anyway. I seen the 250 skids fit good like you said. I just like how the 300 skid is formed.
Nice bike, is the acerbis lettering like engraved on the hand guards? I have a pair of zeta hand guards on my wr250r and when I was washing it and air drying it, the zeta sticker came off the hand guard.

Anyone do this mod with the OE clutch lever? The lever is pretty long which causes rubbing on the guard a bit. I can alleviate the rubbing if I shift the hard guards up to a very high position, but I worry that will defeat the purpose of the guards protecting the lever if the bike drops. Maybe I should cut off the end, or get another set of levers.
@@ericwhitehead4079 Good idea!! I actually ended up doing that to make my clutch lever fit the hand guards. But instead of cutting off the entire ball I just shaved the ball to be smaller with a dremel grind stone. It took awhile to get it down to the point I needed, but after that I sanded it with 400/800/1000/2000 grit wet paper and it came out looking like it was brand new.
to shear even a 6mm bolt takes incredible force. when your talking using a ratchet and twisting yes it may be easier. but to break it without twisting and just shearing i bet you could set a semi truck on those guards and the bolt will be fine. the guards themselves will fail before the bolt will.
Well, finally found the answer online. The factory handlebar has an indention on top to lock the weight in place. This has to be drilled out, then the weight can be removed. Not hard, but it is a stupid design.
Thank you. Very much appreciated. "You meet the nicest people on a Honda"
As an option you can use the stronger included M8 bolt by drilling the bar end weights with a 17/64” bit and re-tap with a M8 by 1.25 pitch tap.
Did they turn out to be durable? Looking to buy a set. Thank you
does your clutch lever not hit the guard?. when sizing mine up to install it was touching the clutch lever
The levers I'm using are shorter than the OEM levers. Sorry I never tried to install the guards with the OEM levers.

Yes the grip and throttle tube needs the end cut off. Take your time and do a nice clean job.

They did not. Any hardware store should be able to help you.

How long was the m6 bolt exactly
The threaded part of the bolt I used was 25mm long.

I'd suggest a short lever. If you don't want to do that loosen the clutch lever perch bolts and move it more inward to see if that helps you.

Would these hand guards fit a honda msx125 grom?
is it better to put a washer between the guards and bars? maybe it will prevent from catching it?
You could have used washers as a shim and not cut the knobs.🤔
