don't we usually leave an opening for the stairs before pouring concrete in the slab? wouldn't breaking the concrete to build the stairs, expose the slab to danger of damaging it?
If you have noticed, that portion of video is for having cutout in a slab which is already been constructed. It shows how make a cutout in a PT Slab. If such sections are designed before construction then that is considered earlier itself.
Rahul incorrect. They are stressed in a sequence to distribute the forces for the shoring to handle the loads. Refer to the engineer of record and PT designer/supplier
Excellent video! Very informative and helpful! Just one question, how to cut out holes on a concrete slab without touching all the steels? Aren't they already bedded inside?
Good observation. Actually it is just a conceptualised way of the activity. One has to protect the cables from damage while removing concrete. Thanks for sharing your views.
One thing is unclear to me. When you apply tensile force to the strands, strands are extending with what is obviously elastic deformation. How do you keep the strands for not coming back to the previous state, and therefore apply the pressure force to the concrete? How do you lock the strands after post-tensioning, with wedges?
The Column sizes doesn't change much using post tensioning. why have you shown such major changes in column sizes at the end of video it is after all a small change in dead load of building.
When I saw this 1st time,at that time i was in 12th (7 years ago) i didn't understand this technique, now I'm in M. E final year now I get to it is Prestressing of slabs
So, doing this allows one to make thinner floor/ceiling sections, allowing for more room in between the floor and ceiling, which can also mean short distance between the floor and ceiling, since you dont have to accommodate for ceiling structural supports. Huh. Is of no real use to me, but still interesting...
An opening in a slab would not be poured and then removed. It would be blocked out and tendons either stress in the opening or stop at the opening (or going around).
In case of earthquake all those will break 100%... and then what you will do? every building needs a good consolidation and in the same time flexibility.
The Getae Dacian can i ask if you have any evidence of post tension slabs being more likey to collapse than a coventional slab? interested in learning more
@@Ngmone i went through the link shared. No where it is mentioned about prestressed or post tensioned building failure in it. Secondly, the system has improved a lot in comparison with 1977. Please do not spread such misconceptions.

Very informative and a good presentation...... Educational institutes should adopt such techniques.
It's enough to understand what we read in books after watching this video.
Thanks for awesome video👏
That’s true engineering !!! One of the best videos I have ever seen in civil engineering , in Greece we usually use pt on bridges
If you want, we can use pt in buildings in Greece as well.
Excellant. This solves all the hassles of using muldtiple strands in a conduit/sleeve. Thanks for the post.
good
True.. Nice catch.
Studying for my GC exams, and this video totally helped in grasping PT basics! Thank you!

Sir , why don't leave a space 4:45 instead of removing of concrete again ? It gets waste of concrete.

whenever cutting through a PT slab, you should have the slab section scanned first to identify where the PT strands are to avoid cutting them

Split cone shaped wedges are there to lock the cable to the anchorage.
