I smoked marijuana for over 20+ years, from high school to my mid 30's. I lost all my ambitions. Finally decided to stop using, started my own business and enjoying life being sober. There's nothing wrong with using marijuana, it's all about moderation. Just don't sit around smoking weed all day and not achieving anything in life.
I've smoked pot for 54 years. I've smoked it with Federal District Circuit Court Judges and State senators as well as famous entertainers. If it's going to kill me, it better hurry up because I'm 70 next month.
@@uselogic117 As a graduate student in psychology, I choose to dismiss your assertion. I have done negotiations with the Russian State Department, the Puerto Rican State Department , and smoked pot with Federal District Circuit judges and senators, Perhaps you are a bit out of step with reality. I do not wish to be offensive but, perhaps you could be open to realities beyond the day to day BS submitted to you by media under the control of government.

USAGeorge Pa. - I'm 65 and I been smoke the wacky weed sense I was 17. Worked for 38 years, made a very good living for my wife and 3 kids. Then I got cancer, weed helped me through the worst days of that nightmare. So from stage 4 cancer to cancer free and still smoking a joint about every day.
Monsterette Me - I'm 65 and like you I got up every day and went to work. I started partaking of the nobel weed at 17. So you me and USAGeorge Pa. are the old farts and the old stoners I guess. Peace brothers...
Never tell your coworkers you smoke because then after that every mistake you make is because your a silly stoner and word spreads like wildfire. Learned this the hard way
In an attempt to live my truth, I have been open about my attempt to use marijuana as an appetite stimulant. However, I’m now labeled a “pothead” within my dysfunctional alcoholic family. The hypocrisy is stifling.
Yes. Because I see smoking as a perfectly normal thing I have had nothing against people knowing. The thing is, the less they know about you, the larger the pot smoking looms as a reason for your behavior. This can be annoying, but it is their problem, not yours. I, and many others, made my way through university, worked in responsible, productive jobs, lovingly raised a family, traveled the world, learned three languages and lived a decent life all the while smoking pot. Furthermore my 58 year pot consumption doesn't seem to have effected my health. I have not had a cold or flu since, 1985, or any other illness. After an accident my bones healed quickly. I am not intellectually addled or a couch potato. There is much to be said for those who choose a gentler, do no harm, take no more than you need approach to life. Stop the malicious stereotyping of pot smokers.
It's different for everyone, but I only smoke after dark, when my business is done, kids are in bed and never when I stress. I know about substance abuse - been without alcohol for 12 years and counting. Moderation is key.
It also depends on the strain you use. CBD strains with very low THC are fine for day use to relieve pain and nervous system. Even when working or whatever you want to do. THC strains are good for mental relaxation in weekend nights. The problem is that most Cannabis strains grown and sold these days are extremely high in THC and very low in CBD.
I am unemployed. Trying not to take too much space or be too much of a financial burden to my fiancé. But my medicine is my medicine. I have a debilitating eating disorder caused by severe anxiety and psychological reservation. Marijuana helps me eat, even if it is just an apple a day.
I was blown up 3 times by improved explosive devices (road side bombs) in Afghanistan. I have terrible stomach issues, anxiety, and sleeplessness. I smoke weed everyday not because I want to sit on my ass and think about doing harder drugs. No. I smoke because those problems I burden from the war go away and I can still be productive all day. From experience I can say with certainty Weed is great if you need it and still great if you don't.
I have three degrees in psychology and earned my Master's with a 4.0. While watching this, I smoked weed with my cancer surviving fiancé, grown by a science professor as a hobby.

Suttree Lowery . Make that three. The mental health industry would be greatly improved after an in in-depth comprehensive study of LSD and peyote. Just a thought
I tried marijuana for the first time and did not like it. It made me suspicious, paranoid and generally anti-social. Then I tried it a second time (like any person who pursues logic would) to make sure it wasn't an isolated case. I liked it. It calmed my mind, made me ponder the philosophical depth of seemingly mundane things. Then I tried it again and it had a completely different effect. It made me super social. Then I tried it again and it made me gain unlimited control of my ability to focus on something of my choice (I have ADHD so that is like finding the holy grail). After extensive experimentation trying to find that holy grail of focus again I realized that each strain had a different attributed effect. I am glad that it is finally being legalized in many areas. Now, research on the different strains can be extensively performed and the mysteries of this amazing natural resource can be explored to its deserved fullness.
That is the key.. To get the right strain. It is not legal where I live so I take a chance every time I buy. I also have ADHD and epilepsy. Really hoping for legalization and more research as well. Anything but big pharma
Definitely. same here on the not legal thing, on top of that I have a parent that saw her brothers waste away from heroine and meth and thinks that cannabis was the cause. She had no idea what the real cause was because those drugs are done hidden and all she saw was them smoking weed to come down. I am also very hopeful that Federal Legalization happens soon.
Study the differences between THC and CBD. THC tends to cause long-term serotonin disruption with concomitant brain and personality passivity, while CBD may do the opposite. THC should be the subject of study (and TED talks), not "cannabis."
I am a veteran, college educated, work full time, pay my bills, own my own home and truck, take care of my daughter, work out, hunt, fish, hike, fabricate metal art for my sister in law to sell in her store, volunteer in my community, and I smoke weed. Sadly most people I know don't know that I do. I hide it because of the stigma, and the fact that I live in Texas. I think some of my neighbors that I've known for years, and never had any issue with would call the police on me if they knew I was smoking weed. I really hope prohibition ends in my lifetime.
AmbientShade he wasn’t saying it’s the norm he’s saying it’s annoying having to hide it because the government has lied about something fairly harmless for most people and they’ve lied about it for decades
Bro I know all I wanna do is smoke and work but smoking hinders me from getting good paying jobs. I'm sober now because I need to provide for my family but dammit it sucks sometimes.
I work in a corporate setting. I use cannabis everyday to alleviate stress/anxiety caused from my ADD. Since I started taking a toke everyday before I come into the office (roughly 10 months now), my mood and productivity has gone way up. I have been given increased management responsibilities, given a pay bump, and made a lot more friends at work. But remember, weed is bad because the government says so....
How's your memory though? While high and in general? One thing I hated after using every night for nearly a year was just my memory turned to shite (in general, not just while high) and I stopped having dreams. How about you?
Lol, memory haze from weed is nothing compared to legally prescribed anti-depressents/anxiety meds like SSRI's and xanax (stuff you HAVE to be on the entire day in order to not be depressed). If your primary concern is memory, then weed is still the better option as opposed to other prescribed medications that are worse for your memory. From my personal accounts and others, it's very rare for a person to have messed up sober memories due to smoking weed the previous night. Your memory issues are most likely not the cause of weed itself but an underlying personal problem.
lolPantsProductions I wouldnt classify myself as a heavy user. I take just a toke before work and maybe another when I get home if my ADD is particularly bad that day. I basically use it as "medicine" and hardly ever smoke enough to get high. Mostly just a slight uplift in mood, and it quiets down the "noise" in my brain from my ADD
I was discharged from the US military for showing THC levels in my urine i lost my school benifits and they halted my medical seperation. I could have lied but that is not who i am and also i never felt like i did anything wrong. I live with the consequences and have moved forward in life. It was an honor to have served.
I feel you. I get dt every month sometimes twice. If it wasnt for a career path id gladly roll one everyday and smoke. I however in my lifetime dont think the army will ever accept it. So for now i stay clean.
Hey man, they’re turned into soldiers because they follow orders to the T. Weed makes you go against that and question things, glad you’re living a life out of War and I’m sending positive vibrations ✌🏻
THANK YOU! I've been a marijuana user since 1970. I only experimented with other drugs to determine whether the government was lying about them, as well. But, I settled on just marijuana over alcohol (except for an occasional glass of wine w/meals). I don't even like being around loud, in-your-face, aggressive (sometimes violent) drunks. I think I'm a better person, while stoned. It makes me easier going, more relaxed, a better sense of humor, and lots more creative. I've never had a pot problem, just judgmental people problems. The greatest problem with pot is the law. Getting arrested could lead to jail time and/or a felony record, which results in becoming unemployable. Kids can forget about the medical industry, legal jobs, etc once having a criminal drug record Due to its stigma, my family rejected me for being a 'drug addict'. Even now, we don't communicate, but that has become a mutual thing. I have always maintained that I am in control, while stoned, and have no problems with driving (accident free & 0 tickets), operating construction equipment, table saws, lathes, milling machines, whatever I need to do. Of course, I've learned to be aware of my condition while doing these tasks, so I really plan ahead and usually work either in slow motion or with a really good groove on (which is quite enjoyable). Now, I have my patient's card, so I'm 100% legal. 😎
Cannabis is a great gift, period! it is self limiting among other things as the only side effect of overuse is a mild headache or a nice nap! If you are seriously ill, under using it is a problem as you will need more to help with aids or cancer! It's a learning process!
I abuse it (if we're talking about 1 joint a week lol), but I know others that abuse it much more than I do. left the flowers and moved on to dabs, waaaay more healthier
Abraham Espinosa Once a week is not abuse. That's very mild dude. I take a couple hits ever other day and that is a good balance for me. No need to smoke loads of bowls its such a waste. Dabs are very potent and rough on the lungs, but you only need 1 hit.
I smoke like everyday for almost a year, it rarely happends to skip a day and long term effects are that i think so much more open minded and i started to think much more serious then i did before i started smoking weed it helped me get over some hard life situations and i am only 16 maybe some of you think that's too young but many things happend to me of which i whould not talk here, and it helped me so much I love cannabis! ❤️
Do not use or support recreational marijuana because it has a tangible connection to the drug war. Recreational marijuana bought from a criminal organization involved in the drug puts money in suppliers pockets which supports by association, financially supporting organized criminals fueling their wars which cause deaths to the innocent. Also, go against against present state and country recreational marijuana legalization because it continually helps criminal gangs and cartels by giving them an additional access a supply of marijuana. For example, criminal organizations got caught taking advantage of recreational marijuana legalization by orchestrating and operating recreational marijuana grows according to (The Legalization of Marijuana in Colorado The Impact Volume 4: Page 115). This example out of many more proves recreational marijuana legalization continually helps criminal organizations which increases criminal activity.
@Sankari: Recreational marijuana has a tangible connection to criminal organizations and would have to be legalized worldwide in order to break the connection. So these few state or countries that have it legalized give additional access to recreational marijuana for criminal organizations to exploit. For example, criminal organizations exploited recreational marijuana legalization according to (The Legalization of Marijuana in Colorado The Impact Volume 4: Page 115). This example out of many more proves recreational marijuana legalization continually helps organized criminals which increases criminal activity. Criminal organizations selling recreational marijuana are not limited by quantity sold, or age requirements or slowed down by hefty regulations so they are still a major competitor for selling recreational marijuana even in states with it legalized. On top of that counties and cities banned recreational marijuana business's or have on a moratorium meaning criminal organizations can sell there as well. Since the path of recreational marijuana legalization is already failing I doubt it will make it to the worldwide recreational marijuana legalization goal. I and others would rather go a different way which is by not allowing a policy like state or country recreational marijuana legalization that continually helps criminal organizations. Instead, going on a path to deter the drug war by decreasing the demand for recreational drugs like marijuana. Decrease the demand for recreational drugs through rehabilitation for addicts and or have strongly habits for it, enhanced anti - recreational drug usage education (speaking how illegal recreational drug demand keeps criminals financed), converting people who got sent to jail to law abiding citizens and not sending to people to prison for using illegal recreational drugs. Now ask yourself this question what negative problem did those recreational drug policies cause? Do you they continually help criminal organizations or cause major problems?
illegalization allows criminals to completely run the market so I fail to see a good point of your argument. I'd rather buy from the government and know where it is grown and all the chemicals it contains than the shady guy down the street and not know where it is from or what it is laced with. You've obviously never purchased drugs before. I've never almost gotten shot at a dispensary lol
it's disheartening getting older and coming to the realization that one of the most immoral organizations you will ever encounter is your own government.
@@SamPedroCactus The perspective you hold on the matter is not the same as the one humans had in mind when we started building societies. Think further, imagine a time where there was no structure of rules. You would fear for your own safety and the safety of the people you care about everyday. A first solution may be to get a group of people together and all pay the same amount to another group of trained people to protect everyone that paid and throw out the regressive/destructive members of the village/society. Rules must be created so the guards know what is acceptable and what is not, so they know when/how to act. Now when that problem is solved, you can walk relatively safe down the street without worrying about getting robbed/murdered... you might be thinking what other problems you as a group might be able to solve with just a little cooperation, that wouldn't be possible to solve alone, etc.. Now let that develop over thousands of years in different scenarios and you will have variation of freedom and corruption. The idea itself is not immoral, it was actually the solution to the immoral but the problem is that the system can relatively easy get infected by the immoral beasts, that the system was created for to remove in the first place. Unfortunately we were born in a time with an extremely infected system with no force of opposition. If you want to dig deep you can find out which "people" are virus infecting the system this time. Hint: They start with J and end with a noise of disgust.
@@SamPedroCactus Went on a tangent there but point is, the original idea was not to govern others, it was/is to cooperate in a fashion that is believed by the majority to be the most beneficial way for the majority. Now if you feel like you are being controlled, it's just because you are not a part of that majority and you oppose their belief of what is best. This gives the feeling of being governed (which you also are) but you can at any time opt out and not be apart of the system. As in, not be in society, not work, not enjoy ANY benefit that society provides and live like an isolated caveman. People like us just don't do it because the benefits far outweigh the burden of being governed in the questions that we are not in agreement with the herd.

I smoked weed most days for 35 years, used to love it, the smell, the ritual of skinning up, and obviously its effects. It wasn't until after I stopped smoking it, I realised how much more I enjoyed life without it. I found it was not addictive but it certainly became a habit. Some people drink and become alcoholics, some people smoke weed and have major psychological problems, some people are treated with morphine for weeks on end after a serious injury and never get addicted. The one thing you must realise is, if you have the wrong frame of mind when taking any drug it will cause you problems and you will not know you have the wrong frame of mind until you've taken it.
in the meantime medicinal marijuana remains Schedule I (as voted just a couple months ago), cocaine & crystal methamphetamine Schedule II, ketamine daterape horsetranquilizer Schedule III, and xanax benzos Schedule IV. IT DOESNT _STINK_ OF CORRUPTION AT ALL DOES IT.
I come from that ancient period sometime before 1970 when students knew that tobacco companies were poised to move into pot as soon as possible. They were even touting packs of Aculpuco Golds. They would not even have to retool. Just switch. So, it's a wonder why they've kept so quiet.
Some people seem to be able to take the edge off their stressful lifestyles with THC -- but at what long-term cost? While others seems to shrink into puddles of passivity. THC has been proven to disrupt serotonin/synaptic function in the brain. And those who take it are probably thus not always the best witnesses to its long-term side effects.
Joseph Barclay Ross I gurantee you that that is not even a scientific fact and also, people who smoke weed their entire life will objectively be better off than you and more happy.

I'm pro-MJ but that is not an argument, sorry that is the 'natural' fallacy. most drugs came from plants originally. natural doesn't imply good. (and katt williams is kind of dumb, imo)
ChannelMath It is true though, cannabis is not a drug, it is a plant. THC and the other compounds cannabis makes are drugs. By that logic, humans are drugs since we make our own cannabinoids, Dimethyl tryptamine, and a lot of other substances inside and outside our bodies. By definition a drug represents a single substance and plants are multi-cellular living creatures.
Marijuana only has the potential to inhibit learning. Which is only true if it is abused. I know many entrepreneurs who grew up in a heavy marijuana using family. It's just like drinking. You learn how to use by example. You don't smoke weed 24/7. You know WHEN to smoke weed. you don't just smoke it before work. lol. The weed makes you stupid myth was brought up by a faulty study on chimps. They essentially suffocated these test subjects by putting a gas mask on them to get them to inhale the marijuana. They pumped about 20 pounds worth of marijuana through the masks over years. What was making these chimps dumber was the fact that they were being deprived of oxygen which as you know is very important for brain function. lol The increased potential for something like schizophrenia / dementia is all too real though. It has to do with brain development. But once the brain is fully developed the chances drop to pretty much zero. Both of these subjects can be found on the Center for Medical Marijuana Research (University of California) website.
Age is a big issue not to underestimate. Teens and young adults’ frontal lobes are still developing and exposing them to high doses of THS has been proven to interfere with brain development. Not to mention that if you have a disposition of schizophrenia that pot has been known to trigger the disease.
I would urge caution with the way you interpret data given from research. To the best of my knowledge, no research has come to any conclusions about what marijuana and its active ingredients is actually doing to a developing human brain. We just know that there are effects and that they may have the possibility in playing roles in child development. I am not saying that pot-smoking does or does not negatively impact adolescent brain development, but to immediately draw a specific and precise conclusion based on very general data and by use of correlation is probably not the "gold standard" of research design.
Oh no! I don't recommend any kind of substance usage in adolescence. The prefrontal cortex and a number of other things are not fully developed. The information I provided is for informative understanding for young adults. Our societies have laws in place for a reason. What I provided is solely for how society should look at drugs in place of judging those who suffer from substance abuse we should not be putting them in jail, ect. On the subject of what it does to developing human brains you're fully correct in wording strong caution. Studies clearly show that it inhibits myelination (i.e. neuron wiring and development) in developing individuals: Effects of Cannabis on the Adolescent Brain: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3930618/ My overall stance is to inform because such videos still give a skewed view of what recreational drug use really means (see reference links for more information): www.gwpharm.com/mechanism-action.aspx Cheers.

its 2019 at the time of this comment. I am a disabled veteran in PA. Whose life is incredibly better using medical marijuana. And Im not turning in any of my weapons to anyone whatsoever. Get it together and get it legal federally. It is insane that I, as an Infantry Marine Vet, am expected to not keep my firearms or carry them due to the fact that I use Med MJ. All they gotta do is lie on the paperwork like tons of people do anyway. Do that with a med mj card and youll get charged with perjury. What a crock. Keep up the fight. Semper Fi
I wish people would stop calling it marijuana and use the proper botanical name of Cannabis. Marijuana is a term coined by the very entities that worked to prohibit the plant, just kills a little bit of me every time i hear someone advocate for cannabis use for all but still calls is marijuana.
i feel the same way... but you are best off not taking it to heart... people around me call it weed. which is an insult to wealth of health it provides. i got offended when a police officer called it dangerous drug. but we need to let some stuff slide unfortunately. so long as we know the truth we can see through the lie
One "Fact" In this video I would like to correct is, there is no proof that smoking Marijuana no matter the age can give mental illness. but it can bring out mental illness in those who are already predisposed to having them later in life.
yeah people are silly thinking it's some wonder plant that has no adverse effects. dims your light after years of use, i'm living proof of this. Took months to regain my natural state of being back , that's why i stopped and not going back, my life has ten folded since my decision to quit using it . i was smoking daily
There are newer studies linking weed to dopaminergic activity in the brain (just like all other psychoactives), and down regulation of the receptor sites. Which explains the apathetic stoner's tendency to spend time pursuing more weed instead of naturally rewarding endeavors. After years of heavy-daily use I'm quitting weed to purse other goals. Marijuana detox is another industry that will be taking off as recreational pot use continues to sky-rocket among Americans. Regardless of all the pro-pot rhetoric in the world we can safely assume there are many people who want to quit and don't know how, out of the 4 million who were identified as having marijuana use disorder in 2015.
Cannabis disrupts serotonin balance in the brain -- all research shows this. That is almost he operative definition of mild to extreme insanity. Or, another term would be: "spaced outedness". No wonder our Fascist government wants to legalize it now!
Just quit after 10+ years of smoking everyday. I’m joining the Coast Guard. Before that my career as a cook/ chef was based around me being a stoner. I have no problem with weed but I say use it moderately and make sure you achieve goals in life instead of doing nothing and smoking weed all day.
Reminders about weed: 1) You shouldn't smoke it if you are young! 2) It has different effects for everyone. If it gives you anxiety/depersonalization/memory troubles, maybe this isn't the substance for you (and there's no shame in choosing not to smoke). 3) People with lung problems should stick to dry herb vapes on lower temperatures and edibles. Concentrates tend to be problematic due to the sheer density of the vapor. Abandoning dry herb combustion is a given. 4) Like any drug ever-period-weed can be abused. Always consider the pros/cons of your frequency of use, time and place of use, and typical dosage each use. A $20 milligram scale has helped me so much in what I struggled with, which was finding the "Goldilocks" dose to best help but not hurt my depression. 5) Addiction does exist for some, meaning some people can smoke every day and quit no problem, and some people have withdrawals that can range anywhere from pesky to debilitating. If you find yourself in the latter group, work on keeping an eye on your tolerance (a scale is a must!) Try to keep it low by avoiding getting too stoned in one sitting, avoiding taking high-dose edibles, and limiting frequency of use.
And now we at Northern Michigan University are studying medicinal plant chemistry and psilocybin for use to treat severe PTSD. What a long way we have come!
I was raised by parents who indulged in cannabis in private. I believe it made them better parents, and it helped them cope with other medical issues that have plagued them through the years.
Of course, you could pay tribute to the original pot spokesman and watch the original Carl Sagan's Cosmos. I understand that Carl was actually quite high for several scenes, and he was a regular user and advocate not to mention one of Neil DeGrasse Tyson's College Mentors.
i bin smoking weed for about 17 years almost everyday, im 32 got 3 kids with my dream girl, im sick to death of smoking it tbh im starting to feel it on my lungs and if im to quit its now but thats what i been saying for years, my girlfreind doesnt smoke and its becoming a serious problem a lifestyle routine, 3 years ago we went to tenarife with family and for the first time i quit for 6 weeks i found it rather easier than i thought it was my first holiday abroad so i was excited and trained more i felt more in a routine and a lot more organised my head felt clearer and i started having dreams, i was proud of my self but while on the holiday i had a bit of a spliff and that was it not heavy at first but gradually over the months i became dependent on weed again. when ur addicted to weed you think theres nothing else to do if you dont have it ur board so you definitely need a plan, as i sit saying this smoking a spliff always saying its the last one 🙈
David is so well spoken and he got a great sense of humor. I began smoking marijuana at quite an early age (13), but there are no regrets. Greetings from Amsterdam
Milk is a gateway to beer! When I was younger one of my friend's dad got 25 years for interstate delivery in excess of 50 pounds. I have seen murderers get less time.
I was fired today from my corporate position. I failed a random drug screen after smoking a joint the week before while on vacation. Everyone said how shocked they were and I was one of the hardest working people, but they had to let me go. I just don't understand how they call all say they love me but because I choose this over that, I can't work there, and loose my good Healthcare, and savings plan.
I first smoked marijuana at the age of 14. I smoked daily between the ages of 15 and 18. I have a 147 I.Q, am fluent in 4 languages, can do complex mathematics in my head, am working on my 2nd degree (this one in IT). Even the myth that marijuana can make you stupid if started at a certain age is false. I was never addicted to anything besides coffee and cigarettes, it isn't a gateway drug. People who smoke marijuana do it by choice, not by compulsion and aren't compelled to do any other drug. In fact, most other drugs appeal to a vastly different demographic. The reason it appealed to me is it stopped my overly active brain from swimming around inside itself and allowed me to get some direly needed homeostasis.
I smoked weed when I was younger though not often. I happily went without for many years till I got cancer. Then I smoked during chemotherapy. It was a lifesaver. A dear friend got me some from a dispensary that lessened my nausea, made me hungry so I could eat, and calmed me down. I had edibles for the worst days so I could sleep instead of vomit. It enrages me that people without friends in other states willing to take a risk for them have to go through chemo without this kind of help. And it’s true what he says about different strains. What I got was great for chemo. But anything you get on the street might not be. And probably no one but a cancer patient would be in the market for weed that makes you hungry but not especially high. Anyway, we need legalization throughout the US, and federal reclassification so scientists can do research and study / develop specific strains for specific problems or for that matter, specific kinds of enjoyment. Withholding cancer ancillary treatment that helps people is just cruel.
I have chronic nausea and frequent migraines after sustaining injuries from a fall. Weed is the only thing that helps me conquer the lack of appetite and nausea. I struggle to stay above 100 lbs at 64” tall.
Weed is not yhour savior. only the Lord Jesus Christ can save you. Smoking pot is a sin..it is of the darkness of Satan....weed did not save you--it has trapped you...
People in legalized states need to get off their asses and stop acting like they won. We're talking about people going to prison for something less harmful than caffeine, you haven't done shit until all Americans are equal.
@capnfoo, Listen we learned in school that Marijuana causes cancer, brain damage, pre-mature death, and unwanted violence. It has been banned and illegal for almost 100 years for a REASON. Just leave it that way, thank you~
Battosai... What school did you attend? The school of propaganda I think. Cannabis does not cause violence or death. Has potential to treat cancer, not cause it. Brain damage, death and violence is the domain of of drinkers, not plant smokers. Health is not the reason it is illegal. Medical doctors were not consulted when it was made against the law, many doctors were prescribing it to their patients at the time it was outlawed.
Celeste Grainger All I'm saying is that we already have alcohol and tobacco to deal with in our already chaotic and uncertain world, and you want to add another drug into this mess? Also, think about this, almost all the prisons across America are #1 in marijuana related criminals/offenders, and almost all the addiction clinics in America are #1 in marijuana related problems, I'm sorry but statistics don't lie. And lastly, if you think inhaling smoke into your lungs is considered 'medicine', then I'm not the one who is out of touch. They're prescribing this stuff to children for Heaven's sake, I mean what's next cocaine for restless-leg syndrome? Gimmie a break
I have smoked cannabis since I was 19, and I am now 68 and retired. I also worked hard all my life and had a successful business, bought my own house, and was never in trouble with the police despite cannabis still being illegal here in Britain. One small point though; some people will react badly to any drug you can name, legal or illegal. We are all different and individual. Some people become alcoholics after their first drink, most drink a little and enjoy it and have no problem with it, some try it once and never again. Same with marijuana.
I have insomnia from night terrors I experienced as a child. For the longest time Id hate to take pills to help me sleep and they would make me drag through days. Marijuana helped me get onto my feet and really do the things I enjoy in life. And it helped me get a full 8-10 hours of sleep.
I've smoked weed for over 40 years and it is the only thing that is currently helping my pain and nausea caused by surgery, age, and an unknown digestive disorder. Weed relaxes me and is my drug of choice out of all the things I could have become addicted to. If I run out, I'm not happy but it's not the end of the world either. No withdrawal!! I've been able to do anything stoned so it poses no major problem, no matter what I have to do. The majority of my family members also smoke. Weed may not be entirely benign but I know of no other drug with as few side effects and drawbacks as pot.
Marijuana has saved so many lives. I worked in retail for years, and if not for a lunchtime toke I could never have dealt with so many assholes without going postal.
One time when I was high I actually was fascinated by my hand lol. It wasn't because I was dumb but because my hand represented so much more in that moment.
I live in the UK and at the moment I'm expected to come off Cannabis (which I have been taking medicinally for mental health problems for many years with virtually no side effects) and have been prescribed a combination of Quetapine and Lorazepam which together is 'supposed' to serve as a replacement. Aside from the fact that they don't actually treat half the symptoms I was taking the Cannabis for, the Lorazepam alone leaves me practically unable to function, in combination with the Quetapine I'm left effectively zombified. I can't do anything, I can't have a proper conversation, sometimes I can't even keep my saliva in my mouth... Yet in the eyes of my country's government and healthcare industry, as well as in the eyes of most of my family and friends, THAT'S preferable to me smoking a small amount of Cannabis each day. Apparently it's better for me to be a vegetable than a 'pot head'...
ConnorTheCrash sorry to hear this! I suffer from mental health problems too and have actually just stopped taking antipsychotics as they were doing me no good. Weed helps me to relax, and though it doesn't take away my ocd it makes me stronger and more able to cope. Wish they'd legalise it here in the uk!
I too have been prescribed quetiapine and other antidepressants that zombify me. I prefer to use cannibis but have been repeatedly told that weed nullifies the effect of the antidepressants. So should I choose which ones to use? Or continue with both?
Great job on the presentation! Just a small suggestion to those in the space, if you want to change the stigma associated with Cannabis you got to start by having the personal conviction to remove that word "weed" from your vocabulary. It really sets us back by giving that word relevance. Otherwise, you nailed it man! 👏🖒
I'm a regular stoner, I do exactly the opposite you would think I would do when I'm high: I clean my house Do chores cause it makes me focus Exercise , it also makes me workout harder and focus on good posture And I cook healthy meals and drink a ton of water I'm normally procrastinate every moment I get with being sober, I'm completely polar opposite when I'm high
After a couple years of smoking heavily in the early 1970's, I realized subjectively that pot selectively anesthetizes some part of the brain, leaving other parts awake, which creates certain dream-like effects. This, apart from the pleasurable sensations. Personally, I was trying to do zen meditation at the same time, and I found the marijuana high and meditation entirely incompatible--but more alarming, was the fact that it was taking longer and longer for my brain to bounce back so that I could meditate properly. Either it was doing real damage, or the chemical was remaining for longer periods of time in my system. I finally decided that I did not want to shut down any portion of my brain to achieve any effects. Now, in my mid-60's, I have worked with people who have severe dementia, and I realize just how fragile the brain is. I would no more put a chemical into my brain to get an effect, than I would deliberately pour coffee into my laptop to see the letters repeat. Anything which can be achieved through drugs, can be achieved safely through meditation.
I honestly don’t know how bad my mental state would be if it wasn’t for weed. I was diagnosed with clinical depression when I was younger. Always dealt with intrusive thoughts and sleeping problems. Weed has been the only thing that really helps treat my mental illness.
@@johnkim6313 I understand that you’re attempting to encourage positive aspects of life, but what works for you doesn’t always work for others. You can’t tell others how to live their lives!
Cigs and alcohol are the gateway drugs. I know many people that tried one or both before pot. Alcohol is the worst legal drug in my opinion. I've been smoking for 10 years and I've yet to try anything else"harder" nor do I have the desire to. 😎
Marijuana helped greatly reduce the amount of time my PTSD was in full swing. I was able to look inward at myself easier, and I was able to understand my emotions and trauma.
I've been using marijuana for almost 10 years and im 29 now in Medical School. Honestly, without it I dont think I would have made it to medical school. Really just depends if you abuse it or not like anything else.
Im not a regular smoker, rather when there is the opportunity with some friends, or at a party or anything. And I could make out only two types of pot smokers in my personal circle : Those doing it for temporary enjoyment or as some kind of reward after hard work, passing an exam or something, who still had outside, social life and progress. Then the other ones, where pot substituted something. Interestingly, these people were mainly also heavy drinkers. Not saying they were totally dependant, or stupid or anything, but you could notice that it had become normal, some kind of ritual for them. The Drug replaced their daily life. Almost nothing else mattered to them. I thought: "What are you doing ? Why are your throwing your life away for pot and alcohol ? You have so much potential." Gotta agree on the over criminalization and everything else. The thing always is: YOU have to control the drugs, not the other way around.
more power to you, whatever works in your life ! I think it is shallow, we people are born with an inner strife to grow and do something with our lives, if that is smoking pot, go for it I won't stop you, I just think if you do that 24/7 it is a waste of your life, but whatever works out for you. Your path to happiness is not the same as mine, so live and let live

No no. He talked about (on the video) the first report on marijuana. It was a racist report. That is why, since then, there hás been só much controversy about it. You know why that this doesnt happen to álcohol too? "Created" by romans, white people. Also there is the pharmaceutical economy which would all be Put at risk and people would stop Being materialistic in general só pretty much all economy, cus you can even plant tour own weed
Same thing goes for alcohol or any other drug, right?
@@HenkGootjes66 no not right at all drugs are both addictive and deadly but weed is niether it is more accurately describes as medicine than drug

Even if it is medicine, it’s a drug, almost everything is a drug if you. An consume it. Just because we like using it doesn’t make it not a drug.

I've smoked pot for 54 years. I've smoked it with Federal District Circuit Court Judges and State senators as well as famous entertainers. If it's going to kill me, it better hurry up because I'm 70 next month.

I am 60 and have smoked for 40+ never stopped me from going to work every day nor did it lead to heavier drugs. Lol

Never tell your coworkers you smoke because then after that every mistake you make is because your a silly stoner and word spreads like wildfire. Learned this the hard way
Good advice. No upside to that type of confession.
In an attempt to live my truth, I have been open about my attempt to use marijuana as an appetite stimulant. However, I’m now labeled a “pothead” within my dysfunctional alcoholic family. The hypocrisy is stifling.
i can feel u bro... i have been there..weed is more of a self exploration drug that a social drug
Good advice!!
Sounds like you are a good farther with your priorities in check.
You speak the truth mate, that has been my experience. Davox from Oz.
I do the same thing.

Kids can forget about the medical industry, legal jobs, etc once having a criminal drug record
Due to its stigma, my family rejected me for being a 'drug addict'.
What conclusions did you come to about the other harder drugs and the goverment if I may ask?
Cannabis in moderation is a great gift!

It wouldn't be connected to a drug war if it were legal... you don't see gangs selling 40's

Then you see that the purpose of government in the first place was immoral.
@@SamPedroCactus Probably more the "people" who occupy the government, not the idea itself.
@@johndoesson The idea to govern others was and still is immoral. No one has the right to rule over anyone else.

I only started smoking a year ago and it has saved me, I have arthritis that in turn sent me on a spiral of depression and i did attempt to take my own life after years of agony and limited mobility (from as early as 14-15 I'm 32 now) Painkillers make me i'll i then have to take meds to counter those so i just get more ill as i go on, I only smoke a joint/spliff a night but it's enough to keep me well oiled and calms the pain to a bearable level allowing em to go to work and enjoy my family time.
I would encourage anyone to at least try it once, it may not be for you but you never know

Hey I have arthritis too and hyperparathyroidism and I used to smoke pot and it really helped but I moved back to Arkansas where it's illegal and I had to stop because it's too expensive and I have to drive over an hour to get it, I now am going back to a new doctor to try and get him to give me the legal thc pill which I plan to combine with Cbd oil so I can legally get the affect and considering I have just about every symptom that weed helps I think I might get it after I get my scope and back into a new endocrine Doctor, I finally got into a clinic that recognizes that I will be in agony for the rest of my life and doctors who seem to be understanding of the pot after 10 years of either living miserable or as a criminal in my home state I'm almost at my breaking point, I did live in California for a while and was able to legally smoke but I had things happen and I needed to go back home unfortunately :/ and the cops are really bad about weed here, although I never got in any trouble (because cops tend to not want to arrest a skeleton kid) I'm still afraid it will happen because of what happened to many of my friends.
Long term Cannabis consumer who is passionate about seeing the archaic, obsolete and unfair (especially with so many states making it legal) laws that utterly destroy good peoples lives revoked for good! Appreciate this video very much and hope that many more mainstream herb users do the same!!
That is so well said. It is indeed all about the frame of mind!
This is probably the most relatable and truest comment ive ever read. Thank you for posting!!!

Some people seem to be able to take the edge off their stressful lifestyles with THC -- but at what long-term cost? While others seems to shrink into puddles of passivity. THC has been proven to disrupt serotonin/synaptic function in the brain. And those who take it are probably thus not always the best witnesses to its long-term side effects.

that is stupid
you're stupid
I'm pro-MJ but that is not an argument, sorry
that is the 'natural' fallacy.
most drugs came from plants originally.
natural doesn't imply good.
By definition a drug represents a single substance and plants are multi-cellular living creatures.
lol, I didn't disagree! my point is: so what??
what is the point that OP is trying to make?
that drug A comes from plants and not drug B means nothing
i know many who have begun to smoke at young ages and honestly they are the most intelligent people I've ever encountered!!!
What was making these chimps dumber was the fact that they were being deprived of oxygen which as you know is very important for brain function. lol
The increased potential for something like schizophrenia / dementia is all too real though. It has to do with brain development. But once the brain is fully developed the chances drop to pretty much zero.
Both of these subjects can be found on the Center for Medical Marijuana Research (University of California) website.
***** Probably.. but still waiting for someone to tell me with intellect :)
Age is a big issue not to underestimate. Teens and young adults’
frontal lobes are still developing and exposing them to high doses of THS has
been proven to interfere with brain development. Not to mention that if you
have a disposition of schizophrenia that pot has been known to trigger the disease.
Studies clearly show that it inhibits myelination (i.e. neuron wiring and development) in developing individuals:

One "Fact" In this video I would like to correct is, there is no proof that smoking Marijuana no matter the age can give mental illness. but it can bring out mental illness in those who are already predisposed to having them later in life.
yeah people are silly thinking it's some wonder plant that has no adverse effects. dims your light after years of use, i'm living proof of this.

So is it the plant or your inability to control. Cant blame the object but that finger comes right back at you.
Reminders about weed:
1) You shouldn't smoke it if you are young!

I struggle to stay above 100 lbs at 64” tall.
everyone needs to see things like this- many people are still very stubborn in the old ways of thinking from the war on drugs
Weed saved my life !
me too, i was in a deep depression for 5 years and my cousin offered me some, from that point ive never been better
Weed is not yhour savior. only the Lord Jesus Christ can save you. Smoking pot is a sin..it is of the darkness of Satan....weed did not save you--it has trapped you...
+classicjukebox ... Yes it did saved my life , Jesus told me to use it !
Pink dolphin Jesus told you to get high?
What other blasphmey will you say?
Yeah. I actually think i might have smoke with Jesus once
Alcohol is the real gateway drug. It’s the first mind altering substance usually anyone ever tries. That’s the real gateway
Fernando Villa
And the outcome is a toll on our society. 100 billion a year in treatments
Fernando Villa
Nah... its sugar and caffeine.
... and TV
Spiral of Sound you my friend are very right 💯
Gateway to depression, headaches, hangovers, vomit and death. I come from a alcoholic family, I will drink if it's in front of me, but Hate it.
How many people try new drugs while they're drunk?
This guy for one
People in legalized states need to get off their asses and stop acting like they won. We're talking about people going to prison for something less harmful than caffeine, you haven't done shit until all Americans are equal.
all of the world* is equal. it should be legal everywhere.
@capnfoo, Listen we learned in school that Marijuana causes cancer, brain damage, pre-mature death, and unwanted violence. It has been banned and illegal for almost 100 years for a REASON. Just leave it that way, thank you~
please spread it to europe and the rest of the world too.
“I hate to disappoint, so I’m doing both”!!! I love it!!!
It's sad he correctly quotes 10k/annual prescription deaths for 2016.....Now it's 37k+ in 2019.
😂
One time when I was high I actually was fascinated by my hand lol. It wasn't because I was dumb but because my hand represented so much more in that moment.
Kairi Martinez Yea, it can make you appreciate things you overlooked before.
Kairi Martinez yea like your boyfriend lol
lol
Sorry to hear that, hope the U.K. will become a more free land in the near future.
The Crash that is screwed up bad,I feel for you my friend!!!!Bless you!!!!!!!!!
I too have been prescribed quetiapine and other antidepressants that zombify me. I prefer to use cannibis but have been repeatedly told that weed nullifies the effect of the antidepressants. So should I choose which ones to use? Or continue with both?
Literally the best ted opening I’ve ever seen.
Great job on the presentation! Just a small suggestion to those in the space, if you want to change the stigma associated with Cannabis you got to start by having the personal conviction to remove that word "weed" from your vocabulary. It really sets us back by giving that word relevance. Otherwise, you nailed it man! 👏🖒
I'm a regular stoner, I do exactly the opposite you would think I would do when I'm high:
I clean my house
Do chores cause it makes me focus
Exercise , it also makes me workout harder and focus on good posture
And I cook healthy meals and drink a ton of water
I'm normally procrastinate every moment I get with being sober, I'm completely polar opposite when I'm high
Itsjustherbbro it’s like when ur high those activities sound fun and it’s like a puzzle.
Exactly!
Loved this TedTalk! And I loved him 😂😂😂 Thank you!
🍀🍀🍀
I honestly don’t know how bad my mental state would be if it wasn’t for weed. I was diagnosed with clinical depression when I was younger. Always dealt with intrusive thoughts and sleeping problems. Weed has been the only thing that really helps treat my mental illness.
That’s not good buddy weed is lit af but get a girlfriend, go to the park, just live life buddy don’t let weed live it for you.
Gorgeous! We all so need to hear this x
Luemm3l thats all perception. they could look at someone who is sober all day and think that that person is the one wasting their time
more power to you, whatever works in your life ! I think it is shallow, we people are born with an inner strife to grow and do something with our lives, if that is smoking pot, go for it I won't stop you, I just think if you do that 24/7 it is a waste of your life, but whatever works out for you. Your path to happiness is not the same as mine, so live and let live
i havê told this racist origin of the marijuana and no one believes me and laugh a bit at me (they feel poorly of me and dont laugh hard) só im glad this guy talked about this. Im really glad of this talk and ibhave only heard half of it(will continue after writing this comment) but how ij thebworld does it only havê 12k views??
I don't know what you're talking about but if you're talking about then the war on drugs, political leaders have said that the war on drugs was started to get rid of minorities
Yeah my bad. When I posted this comment I was only about a minute into the video
No problem xD
+Always IMO Google
