this is so amazing. my parents kicked me out at 18 and I just recently got my own studio apartment and I live alone. I wish I could have an experience like this. I don't really have any close friends or family. but your experience made my heart happy.

  • @amydeserto

can you make a video talking about getting kicked out? and explain it as much as you feel comfortable doing, i'm about to turn 19 and i can't even fathom being kicked out

i got kicked out at 17 for sleeping with someone. my dad didn't like him because he was nerdy and had a speech problem. I'm still with him today and I am turning 20 soon. its hard i would not have anything if it wasn't for said boys family. but its my reality as is a ton of teen girls

Something about this video and the story of living in the punk house was so calming to me. It was also so inspiring and it's made me think of how much I'd love to move somewhere in the pnw and find a cool group of folks to live in, but I imagine it's a 1 in a million shot of having something as good and conducive as your experience was. This was a really cool video Amanda. Thanks! :)

seeing the passion in your eyes when you talk about your time in that house is so pure and true! not many people get chances in life that help them shape and find their true selfs, you are so lucky!

Such a good video. I got kicked out at 16, so I've been all over. But my favorite place was when I lived in cape cod MA, it was only a few months, but it was when I really found myself. Now I'm grown with kids and I still talk about that place all the time. Our experiences and the people we meet shape our lives and change us forever.

I'm moving into this house in my favorite little town with my two best friends in a few months and listening to you talk about your punk house and having to be thrifty and everything but still loving it has made me even more excited than I already was about it. I'm just so pumped to be so independent and accepted in a space that I love.

I'm living with my boyfriend at the moment I left my parents house Bc they are assholes and I'm also vegan and love to paint we turned the basement into an art studio/lounge place, our roommates just had a baby and we gave them our room so we now sleep on one of those couches that you unfold and turns into a bed ..but life is great I bus tables and it's my senior year of high school and my bf is also graduating and he works part time in a factory. Life is so good we also have people in and out of the house and everyone is family we really created such a big family with such diverse people and LIFE HAS NEVER BEEN BETTER!!! I connected so much with you in this video thank you so much for sharing this!!! Im currently going through this chapter that you have already passed and it's just fun and warms my heart up to hear similar experiences from someone else

This is such a huge inspiration to me. I just graduated high school, so I'm in that awkward space where I don't have lots of money, but I want independence.... I'm so reassured and my heart feels full just knowing that such a pure experience can exist in this world. All I ever hear is horror stories about unknown roommates and travelers, but this is fantastic. I'm fascinated by your 1000 lives and absolutely love love love enjoying story time here and living vicariously. Thank you for making this video and for being awesome!

Punk Houses are so amazing. There's one close to my favourite bar in my city, and we will spend hours upon hours just playing guitar and singing and drinking beer and talking about the most amazing profound shit. The people in that household are hands down some of the most genuine people I've ever met in my life. There will always be a special place in my heart for Punk Houses.

Girl, I grew up in a Big Ten college town and when I was in my early twenties, almost all my furniture came from students moving out in May. We dumpster dove for everything. It was much like Christmas. Even 15 years later my coffee table is still a dumpster find from the early 2000s. I’ve never had another coffee table since. I swear that that time in my life has shaped how I feel about dumpster diving and living super frugally. Even if I ever become rich, I will still be a thrifter and live off less.

I almost cried at the end because this made me miss my old house 😢 It was a student house (still is) and I lived there with my 3 bestest friend for a couple of years and it was amazing. My current (still 'student-y') shared apartment is still cool and all and it's also more clean than the other one, which is nice, but idk the atmosphere is definitely different.

Yoooo! Its awesome to see a video that relates to my current place in life. It makes me feel less alien.
I recently had to move out of a toxic household, (5 months ago) I could not take my mothers mental abuse anymore. I flew 1500 miles from New Mexico to Portland and had two suitcases of stuff... I went through 2 months of unemployment, though I would be homeless and die but found a craigslist add for the place i'm living in now. Its a 2 bedroom with a basement much like that house you lived in lol.. But there's 8ish of us... And its honestly the best thing ever. All of my housemates bring so many positive things to my life and it makes living in a big city so much easier.

  • @JessicaElle66
    @JessicaElle66 8 років тому +2

I had my own version of this, but it was more like a scifi/fantasy nerd house lol.
But it was really cool to live with other like-minded people and have this little haven from the outside world where we could be as weird as we wanted and we always accepted each other. But like yours, mine also went sour when we took someone in who brought a lot of negativity to the house, and we all no longer felt comfortable there so we disbanded. It was still worth it for all the great memories though!

I would love to see a video from you discussing your relationship with your parents, and your family's dynamic. That's an extremely personal subject, but I feel like I could definitely relate. I always felt like the only one with a weird family relationship, and messed up family issues, but now that I'm older I'm meeting more and more people who come from similar situations. I would love to hear different advice etc from you. Now that I'm older, I'm finding that I'm still having to deal with some of these issues, but just in different ways which creates a whole new set of obstacles.

Your parents not eating the vegetable stir-fry makes no sense to me. Its stir-fry! It's usually 50-75% vegetables. What the pineapples man? I'm not a vegan but my sister is or was and when I visited her, she made me vegan pancakes. I didn't really like them but I sure did eat them, because she made them for me and she was vegan. That would have been beyond rude if I hadn't.

I had friends who were 'punk' in high school etc but they were jerks. Into drugs. Constantly judged me etc. I had to separate myself from my last remaining friend like that. My parents were assholes too but I had to pick the lesser of two evils. Til this day even hipsters annoy me because I knew so many "scene" kids. I hung out "downtown" but was never accepted. Even though I came from a shitty family lol. Not my crowd I guess. Im glad you had a good experience though. My situation has forced me to be a loner and I've embraced it. In some ways I don't think I'd be as happy as I am now had I not gone through all that rejection.

This was so fascinating to hear about. This experience is so amazing. I'd love to hear more tales about it someday. I hope you're still friends with your former roommate!

I'm not sure how apart of the UA-cam beauty community you are... but have you heard of piinksparkles? I think that's her channel name? Her real name is Samantha. Anyway- she did a pre-order type deal for her subs for this janky awful quality eyeshadow palette some Korean cosmetic company printed her name on. She told all her subs she actually helped design the palette, formula, package, etc. but in reality- she didn't pick anything or worked on anything officially at all!!! Not enough people were tricked into buying the crap cosmetic, so the company ended up not doing business with her and so no one got the eyeshadow and it's taking forever for them to get their money back. Also, some people's accounts were charged 100's of dollars!!! Lots of screwed over people. Her integrity was shot, her lies came out, and she lost a lot of subs who used to admire her. It's an awful mess. That experience has left me with a bad taste in my mouth regarding pre-order sales from youtubers... BUT! With you specifically and your channel, I have 100% confidence in what your doing. Which, I want you to know- means a lot to me. I can tell just from the likes and comments, you have an authentic sub group who love you and support you in the things you pursue. I'm actually EXCITED about this pre-order. I honestly hope that there's such an overwhelming demand that it blows your socks off and make you feel loved and appreciated for who you are and what your ethics stand for. I'd suggest... you buy more than you think you'll sell, because your channel is only going to grow and the demand is for sure going to be there. Which. I'm really excited about for you. For us as subs who get to buy this rad art/pin. ❤️ You're golden.

Pre ordering makes me a little anxious but like you said, I trust Amanda. If I was ever going to pre order from someone, it would be her. I can't believe people would give pinksparkles money up front. I'm not a viewer of hers but I have seen a couple of her videos and from the start she seemed so phoney. Hopefully those people get their money back. It's their hard earned money and she has no right to keep it. As a pin collector myself I think it would be so cool to have a qcknd pin on the canvas strap of my leather handbag, right along with my other ones. I'm so happy to see you doing well and being successful with your channel. I feel like a lot of the genuine UA-camrs get overshadowed by the ones who really only seem to care about the numbers in their bank accounts. I wish you all the success qcknd!

Lindsey Quinn I was a sub of hers for years. Too lazy to delete, I suppose? Lol.
When she first mentioned the palette she said she was "working very hard" with the company to "completely design an eye shadow palette that was high quality and affordable, considering she LOOOOVES her subs." She was talking cosmetic formulas, losing sleep over shade choices, etc etc. When, in REAL LIFE... The dinky unknown foreign cosmetic company contacted her because she has tons of subs and asked to screen print her name on some generic cheaply poorly made palette and would give her a cut from the sales. They of course were not going to fund this for her, they essentially gave her the job of selling the palette to her subs, essentially like a sales gig. She was given a specific amount required to sell, I believe it was 2,500? Don't quote me there. Under 3k, for sure (she had a million subs). She pushed that cheap palette every moment she could, but made slip ups by saying things like "I used the palette/shadows for the first time this morning!" Which, if she helped formulate or even pick out the colors, they of course would have sent her swatches... at least. There are just holes and lies she constantly got stuck in. So many lies. Big lies.
This is when the pre-order issue came in. She said she was doing her subs a "favor" by giving them a lower price if they pre-order! Really what was happening... she HAD TO get people to give her their money up front just to please the company enough to produce them. The price for the palette was outrageous, especially for the dollar store cosmetic quality that it was (not kidding.) The majority of her subs were very blunt about the quality being crap, but some people were stuck suckered in! Little girls who saved their allowance....
The people who pre-ordered gave the money and wanted months and months... nothing came. Sam was just making excuse after excuse. Then, people stared realizing that the company was charging them $hundreds of dollars! For no reason. Not only did they not receive anything- more money was stolen from them. Eventually, the people slowly started receiving their money back. The entire situation made me SICK.
