    Watching the whole interview, DeJounte isn’t bitter or hating. He actually showed a lot of appreciation for the Spurs and their organization. The issue was that he didn’t understand why the things were the way they were in the organization as a rookie. Nobody told him anything until Kawhi told him what was up. All the support financially and success was after that rookie year, after Kawhi basically took him under his wing to help him navigate.
    And that’s the thing, these vets are afraid of rookies taking their jobs, so they don’t help them. And Kawhi and Tony clearly aren’t friends, and it makes sense that Kawhi would help DJ take Tony’s spot in a way.
    The Steven Jackson stuff I do agree with. He is bitter, but because he felt like he deserved more. But ultimately it’s about team and not about his desire to be a self proclaimed “star” or even leader on that team. And the same stuff he said about Tony absolutely applies to him too. Pot meet kettle.

    Stephen Jackson is a hater yes but DeJounte actually praised Pop and the spurs organization. I know one thing Murray always says is he’s grateful that Pop took a chance on him. He didn’t understand how rookies were treated. It was Leonard who explained everything to him and helped him find his was as a rook.

    Those of us who have followed him closely since being drafted know how emotive he can be, and we’ve seen plenty of pro-Spurs posts slapped across his gram for the last 5 years citing that they changed his life for the better. What’s interesting about his narratives is that they’re based on assumptions around intent, E.g. that the Spurs must have not believed he was capable because of how they treated him or that TP must have been upset if he didn’t stick around to mentor him. What did TP owe him? The Spurs are always sure of a guys character when they draft them. He was likely just naive to the challenging way in which coaches develop character, and bitter that TP had his own interests at heart. One thing I know is that if Pop, TD, and Manu believe in Parker’s character then that’s where I’d put my money.

    • @Josh-tb9yq
      @Josh-tb9yq Рік тому +3

      After watching the full interview I’d add that I think Dejonte spoke pretty fairly about things. I think by cutting it up you miss the context that he’s really just explaining what it was like to go through the process there rather than criticising it. It doesn’t pass blame on why it was difficult. If anything SJ tries to steer the conversation toward criticism, especially around TP. DJ speaks highly of them paying him post-injury, and reading between the lines, they sent him away mutually to where he wanted to be traded based on his development not fitting with where the team was at. I may not agree with him insinuating things about his place alongside Derrick, but no player is going to feel good about competition over their place. We probably have to admit that the system does limit players as individuals and he pointed that out too. No one is perfect, nor is any org, but I think he comes off as grateful and equally as candid about his perspective which holds as much weight as anyone else’s. I wish him well.

Even Steve Jackson never says anything bad about pop and Duncan at all and only praises them but he don’t like how the gm and owner act behind the scenes . Just like kawhi, demar, dj, etc. Tbh even tony Parker is hated by all of em dj kawhi jack most of his teammates all said bad things about him as a teammate and you can tell tbh if you legit having sex with your teammate wife while your wife is actually bad asf man you legit don’t give af bout no one but yourself. Even Manu said in a documentary it took him a long time to actually like tony . After that incident it killed the locker room even when they won tony was excluded from the team and it took new role players for that to go away literally a whole new team. Which is why you saw tony leave but not manu and Duncan they had a level of respect for him that they didn’t have for Parker heck they payed both of em what they weren’t going to get in the market their last few years even when they were way out of their prime because the organization loved them but they didn’t want to pay tony anything and tony got mad and left even tho he literally wasn’t the same player at all and you saw that in hornets without Duncan and pop he was a generic pg. tony got lucky taht he landed with manu and Duncan who would’ve been great anywhere else tony wouldn’t have been great anywhere else. It legit took years for pop to rebuild him from the ground up and actually teach him how to pass and speak English and play basketball the right way no other team would’ve done that back in the day they would’ve saw what he was and wouldn’t do much and he would just be another pg in the league

Do you ever hear about how the Run TMC Warriors - who only needed a big man to become a dominant NBA team - and when they finally get their big man in Chris Weber - Don Nelson mis-treats Weber so badly that Chris demands a trade after only his first season? And now you mention this with Dejounte Murray. And things weren't alright with top young player Kawhi Leonard. Tough love coaching... I dont recall Jack or Matt claiming they were All Stars, but they had long careers, are respected by many players and made their money.

What did Kawhi say after he won his championship with the Spurs he told pop "thank you for pushing me" every great player in the NBA had to be pushed in order to improve and accept lesser roles to improve the team. Some players don't like it and some players trust the system. I'm sure Russell Westbrook wasn't happy when they told him he wasn't starting but look at him now he's coming off the bench and he's contributing.

    1:12 No one "has to" like you. You are a rookie in the league, Spurs wanted to take time with your development because you did have character issues (thus many other teams passed on you even though you probably deserved to be drafted a bit higher). Spurs put you to G-League to help with your development and helped you learn team play, defense and get you to be familiar with playing in the league.
    2:10 Tony Parker didn't "have to" mentor you. Why do you think you deserve to be mentored automatically by a future HOF? "He would've mentored you like he should have"? Privilege much?

    I agree of what you all said Casey, its his upbringing and character that build him of what he's acting now. Of all the podcasters interviewed him its nonsense because Stephen Jackson hates the Spurs coz Pop chooses Tony and Manu over him which came as the right decision to do, thats why Stephen loves to interview a player to hate Spurs. He hates because the Spurs is successful by choosing Manu and Toni over him.
    If Dejounte was drafted by another team he would not be a player hed become now. He was a turn over machine as a rookie with defensive potenitial and he's shot is inaccurate but he's athletic and he also said that he loves Pop because he trait as a father to him. His game would not be like that if the Spurs doesnt patiently develop him. He was injured and still the Spurs still help him because of his background and want him to succeed. His silly now because he expects the Spurs will make him a number 1 option and he wants the team to build around him when Derozan is gone but the Spurs traded him instead. Honestly if he's not drafted by the Spurs he'd be gone now in the NBA.
