  • Fiona's fury was on full display in Louisbourg, Nova Scotia where I rode out the storm and documented its impact on Cape Breton. The storm made landfall near Whitehead, NS as a CAT 2 equivalent post-tropical cyclone packing max sustained winds of 165km/h. A gust to 186km/h was measured on the Confederation Bridge with several gusts over 160km/h elsewhere. 56FT waves were measured by a buoy in the Cabot Strait. A destructive storm surge hammered many areas, especially SW NFLD in the Port Aux Basques area as well as the north coast of PEI and parts of Cape Breton. Fiona set the new all-time lowest barometric pressure record in Canada with a SLP of 932.7mb measured at the Hart Island automatic station. Around Louisbourg, estimated wind gusts near 160-170km/h hammered the higher elevation areas of town, especially north of Main St. and above Kennington Cove Road near the Fortress where swaths of conifer trees were levelled. Storm surge overtopped the Coast Guard Base and Havenside Road where debris was left behind.

This is the best footage of the storm I have seen. Do you have more extended footage, particularly of the winds after sunrise?

This must be some of the most intense video footage of the storm.
I'm suprised how intense it still looked after the sun came up over there in Louisbourg

Thanks...yes the peak intensity seemed to be right around sunrise!
