      My brother in law drove a Grader for about six months out somewhere near Birdsville grading dirt roads. They snapped him up because he was a Mechanic that had worked on heavy machinery. They did not care if he could drive a Grader. They taught him.
      When he headed out with the Grader for about 6 weeks he towed a Caravan to live in, another trailer with a small 4WD vehicle, a Fuel tanker trailer and another Trailer with spare parts, tools and generator etc. and he always had plenty of water.
      Not big Trailers like these. He quit after 6 months but enjoyed the experience. Said it helped get his head back in order after a divorce. He said all the big property owners and managers were very good to him. They made sure they looked after the guy grading there roads and invited him to there homesteads etc. For that reason he never got lonely. He always had a satellite phone with him.

      No, Australian 1978 ZH Fairlane , on the annual bushbash rally to raise funds for charity, just one of many cars in rally, must be over 20/25 years old (I think) to take part.
      Participants modify them for run on some very poor back roads tracks , add loud multiple horns, flashing lights, raised suspension etc.

    What are the speed limits in those remote areas and how well do the drivers comply? Are there different speed limits for cars and trucks, as there is in much of Europe? Are there a lot of cops around? Just curious.

    • @OzOutbackchannel
      @OzOutbackchannel  4 роки тому +1

      The trucks are limited to 100 km an hour mostly and the drivers are very good at complying with this. Cars are usually 110 km an hour in remote parts, but that can be higher in parts of the NT. Cops are usually pretty random, they can appear in the middle of nowhere lol!

    • @dwightstewart7181
      @dwightstewart7181 4 роки тому +1

      @@OzOutbackchannel .. Ah, so around 60-65mph, roughly 70mph for cars. I guess that's reasonable considering the distances, road conditions, and so on. However, when I see a long open road, the speedometer on my pickup truck always seems to creep up to about 85-90mph (135 to 145 km/h), but I'm certain that speedometer is wrong. Lol. Thanks for responding.

    • @waspbulgasari4498

    The trick to driving wide vehicles through tight spots (e.g., narrow bridges or between two other vehicles) is three-fold:
    1. Make sure you'll fit.
    2. Worry about only one side of the truck. The other side will take care of itself.
    3. Hope you got step 1 correct.
