Lyrics:
This is the anti, the anticosmic overload
And storms in emulation growl
From land to sea, from sea to land
And fashion as they wildly howl
Though none may hope to fathom thee
Still glorious are thy works of might
A circling wonder working band
Destructive flames in mad career
Precede thy thunders on their way
Yet lord thy messengers revere
In spreading billows foams the ocean
Spheres whirl around in endless motion
And cliff and sea with mighty shock
Still glorious are thy works of might
This is the anti, the anticosmic overload
Revolves the earth in splendour bright
From land to sea, from sea to land
And fashion as they wildly howl
0:58 I love it that the drummer has the fucking time and skill to check his watch whilst playing intricate beats.
Hannes Grossmann is the Best. I really miss him from the latest Obscura album.
LOL
Dude you have very good eye
Metal Baby ui
Yeah, it's funny. But in other moments of the video you can clearly see that there is no watch on his arm.
There's enough metal in this song to rebuild the Twin Towers
Four times...
Four times...
Jet fuel can't melt Obscura
+yann boo Is there enough asbestos as well? :)
There's enough technical metal in this song to rebuild liberty prime
Fretless basses are so damn good, ever since i heard Human and Individual Thought Patterns i fell in love with them.
Nicolas Arango not being much of a musician, i dont really know the difference and why use one or the other. mind explaining?
rcdcguy Fretless bass guitars have a different tone, better if ou ask me. They are smoother, allow for some cool techniques and because you cant really play the exact note you want to, there's always a bit of tension involved, which sound really cool.
Nicolas Arango Try some Beyond Creation and newest album from Job for a Cowboy. I'm sure you're gonna love it
Albert Suchan JFAC still use fretted bass tho, it just sounds a bit like fretless on Sun Eater.
Honketh
I didn't say they use fretless, i just say it's simmilar. However i must admit that I didn't know it tho. Sun eater is a mindblowing album anyway.
Respects for the bass player.
Yeah but the guitarist is better
Yes.
@@Covrage no
@@Covrage They are all excellent
I love how the bass isn't overshadowed by the guitars like in most music these days. It's awesome.
1:24 - 2:01 is my favorite part. I love how everyone is doing completely different things yet it sounds so mesmerizing.
scales
@@fungi42021yup. I listened to Obscura for the first time today and realized how "modal" everything is, which isn't surprising considering it's a really technical subgenre (of course). Pick a scale, select a mode within that and just improv from a scale degree while outlining the mode unique intervals. That doesn't make it "less music" though, it's just a way to visualize what the fuck they are doing
That bassist is insane, its cool to see a band where the highlight is the bass playing because typcally bass is turned so quiet in the mix an is just a simplified version of what the rhythmn guitarist is playing.
See, this is actually a very common misconception. You see, bass is not an intrument that SHOULD be getting fancy too often. It's main function in the mix at all is to fill up space so the sound isn't thin. When it gets as complicated as this, the purpose of filling space is being voided because he is paying attention to all the stops and playing along with the guitar. It looks and sounds pretty cool, but it removes depth from the sound.
+Henry Campanis *SHOULDN'T
I think the mix sounds fine here.
GetScaredGaming Well, to each his own I suppose.
+GetScaredGaming
See, it is a common misconception that instruments have to play a certain role and that they
got a predefined space in music. First of all music is a form of expression and
a musician should never be limited by anything. All the greats have never cared
for the expectations of their audience but have amazed them with their own
unique style they developed while following their heart.
Learn all the rules and practice all styles of music. But when it comes to expressing
yourself, forget everything, listen and just let it flow.
It's like listening to Chuck Schuldiner's Death but at the XXI century.
Pedro Luis Sierra Negrette what i like is they’re influenced by death but have their own style and sound. These guys are fucking great
Oops this comment is 3 years old
Check out After Oblivion. Some people call the vocalist and rhythm guitarist Chuck's son for a reason.

First try: nah, not my kind of thing...
Fifth try: *THIS IS THE ANTI, THE ANTICOSMIC OVERLOAD!!!*
I had trouble getting into Obscura myself.
Now I really dig it tho
that's how all death metal has been for me
fuuuuuuuuuucking same mate
This is fantastic. The guitar sound is great, yet you can hear the bass skill. Very tight band.
Way better than typical modern metal production, its nice to hear the actual instruments when the players are so skilled
Also, one of the few bands with good inhale screams, most inhale screams are so shitty.
@@tinnitusthenight5545 the crystal clear djent production
Death, Gojira and this - some of the best metal you can get.
I Agree with you guy
Those 3, carcass and beyond creation are my top 5 death metal bands.
Metallica is the best band ever. These guys suck
Asad Mahmood they were indeed in the 80's
Leonid Isachenko
I was just kidding. Skill wise Metallica doesn't even come close to these guys and other than that its just a personal preference.
Why the fuck does google think I'd be interested in seeing an advert for one direction?
Is that a fucking blank profile pic with a fedora? Hahahaha
Carbon Fourteen lol
Im epileptic, so everytime I watch this video I go into a seizure. But the solo is so badass that I have to keep watching it over and over.
Maybe just LISTEN to it bro......just a thought.
2:00 "I'm blue dabadeedabeda.." xD
haha it also sounds exactly like a lead section in avenged sevenfold - chapter four
@Bruce Johnson - Don't ruin one of my favourite riffs by telling me that shit.
@104204760464989354614
calm down, just a joke dude xD
His face is also blue in that part O.O
that's why I don't like pop prog metal
Lol i love how the drummer looks like a random dude.
+Kory Graphic Great drummer! Check out Carcass' latest drummer, Daniel Wilding too!
Hahaha
now he´s the drummer of Blotted Science
He also drummed for Necrophagist with Christian(Lead guitarist in the vid)
Kory Graphic
Hannes Grossman
intense drummer
Death´s influences
1:53 hes like "First fret, second fret, third fret".
Excellent offering from these guys! 12 years ago?! Still sounds ahead of its time. These guys kill!
You can say that again !!
Welcome back to Obscura Jeroen Thesseling!!
0:58 Hannes Grossmann(drummer):"What time is it?"

Obscura's technicality and artistic brilliancy astounds me no matter how many times I listen to them. \m/
Obscura was badass when they were blackened technical pornogrind hip-hop
Not enough of that these days.
What the fuck XD XD XD pornogrind it's shit but you're only kidding right?
mexicanblondplayer yes he is
mexicanblondplayer How can he be kidding? Who in there right mind would make out of thin air Obscura's original genre?
***** Lol.
Chuck would have been proud of you guys!
Q: How do you say Obscura in Polish language ?
A: Obskurwa
Cosmomach
Fucking nice
Dokładnie tak kurwa!
So you pretty much say it the same way with a different spelling? Lmao
Bettelguise
Your lying its "Cyka Blyat".
at 1 43 it's like he says "Bonjour!" :D
yeah true!
Anna H. I always greet my friends like that.
BONSOIIIIIIR

This song is AMAZING! A fretless player who actually plays it like a fretless...in a death metal band! This is truly unique...it sorta has a danceable feel to it as well...damn I'm trying to explain this band to a friend but words cannot describe what I'm hearing!
Song still kicks ass all these years later, I remember discovering it on myspace back in the day
Yeah man... that tight.
I didn't think you were into this lance!
I wear a lot of hats... :)
Is it me, or do they make REALLY catchy tech death songs?
That's the entire point. It is memorable. Unlike First Fragment....
@@elitetrader5468dude WTF? First fragment is amazing
@@AgustinRodriguez-Bdm As technical musicians yes; as song writers not so much. They are no Beyond Creation that's for sure. It isn't all about technical wankery. I kind of find their stuff just exhausting after a certain point. Whereas with Beyond Creation, I want to listen to the same song over again and again. I don't get that desire with FF.
This sounds so fucking beautiful. Definitely my favorite tech death band. It's like if Death was still making music
this is happy metal
i didn't realize their vocalist plays rhythm too, that's pretty damn impressive! and that bassist using a fretless for this stuff is nuts... a pretty damn talented band. especially with the crazy ass solos, man that dude's tapping is unreal. this isn't my first time hearing these guys but figured i'd throw a few thoughts out while i was here lol
Another good band to check out with really cool taps is Rings of Saturn, I'd recommend their songs Natural Selection and Eviscerate.
i've heard them before, they have some pretty crazy stuff. good call :) i heard a song by them called seized and devoured, had some crazy video game sounding taps and sweeps in it lol was pretty cool though. had sort of a deathcore vibe to it, but it was still pretty cool
+Ethan Garrison Rings of Saturn is an awful band, playing an awful genre.
Well said, check out First fragments latest album that"s some unreal tech shizz.
that fretless bass is just pure awesomeness
All their albums are extremely nice... But this song and this album and this line-up are so different and legendary
I NEVER GET TIRED OF THIS!!! I LOVE OBSCURA.
Really love this death inspired band. They don’t knock them off just take what they like and whoop some ass
Hannes Grossman is one of the most talented drummers ever. Such a badass!!1
2:22 dat face
When you get the succ and they just bite it really hard
Rob Scallon?
Jeez. Just watching that stick height at 0:05 is amazing!
You know it's tech death when the bass is that hard!
Saw these guys recently for the second time , they are simply amazing ...
Super tight, great musicians. Its definitely all about the musical pieces not the lyrics, you could probably write just about anything. This guitarists sweeps are insane...
The transition from the solo to the chorus just gives me chills
thank you music choice for having obscura listed under metal music videos. that is how I discovered this band. They are freaking amazing!
Music Choice did it right with this.
i miss this Obscura Line-up :c
mexicanblondplayer yeah they were more intricate
the new lineup is awesome but i like the haircuts of the drummer and the bassist, they gave a fresh visual style to the band xD
Best Obscura lineup
The original bass player I back!
Well, with everyone except the drummer returning to the band, there you go
Edit: spelling
this is a truly amazing death metal band. Every player in this band is amazing. The bassist is playing a fretless bass for christs sake and hes amazing at it. The drummer blasts like a fucking maniac and is really fluent. The guitarist has a carzy solo and the singer is a great rhythm player and has the death metal voice of an angel taking a crap that wont come out
I saw these guys last night at the NorVA. They suprised me. I didn't know the band and now here i am looking up their music. Great show.
the bass in this is LEGENDARY
Damm 1mill views!! I remember when it only had a thousand !! Glad they're coming up !
Son increibles...aca hay mucho de la vieja escuela Atheist, cynic,Death etc!
I instantly fell in love with these guys first time i heard this
i have to say it take long time but i felt love in Obscura's music
fretless❤
I'm so sad they couldn't make that vid for Ocean Gateways as initially planned with the previous line-up. Two of the best prog metal/death metal albums in many years. \m/ Hats off to them.
Nice profile pic
Obscura & Beyond Creation! These people are not just ordinary musicians. They are pushing the boundaries of technical death metal with each album.Lucky to live in a generation while they are still cooking music!
This band has one of the best line ups in metal right now. What a line up.
3:28 Haha, i like this drummer, he is freaking excellent. To be honest, it's been a while since i've heard something as good. He will surely influence me to find new beats for my new band. Obscura is definitely one of my favorite group, i love their Prog. Tech. Death genre!
Nice. Genius song, and the whole band is awesome. And that solo was just killer.
The bass player here is the main reason why I switched from playing with a pick to playing with fingers. His raw fucking sound comes from that sweet fretless, but the instrument follows the musician. Love this band, this is probably the tenth time I've commented on this video.
i saw them live the other day... holy shit... they had a 10 minute long drum solo that blew everyone away, i got to meet them all and they all signed my ticket, made my fucking night.
I think I just reached bassgasm
the drummer looks like hes getting the workout of his life haha good shit tho
It took 14 years for the algorithm to show this to me... 🖤
so glad i found that song again
That drummer is concentrated as fuck....
Just came here to listen to the song and delete some comments I left 9 years ago when I was 15
Lol what did you comment?
@@el.pibedelrock don't think it was that bad. Maybe just a little bit over zealous about Jeroen's bass skills
Saw these guys with the Devin Townsend Project a couple months ago. They rule! Lead guitar player absolutely blew me away!
It HAD to have taken this band a long time to get this good of a line up and create this style/level of music.
Staaaabbbwooooouuuuunnnnnddddd hahaha
you just hear the Death inspiration
One of my favorites
mind bogling technicalty on all four instraments ,very accomplished the least I can say .
Que temón!
Listen to this and speed it up to 1.5 Archspire appears!
+Valentin Crucifix génie
+Valentin Crucifix and 0.5 sounds like doom metal
damn son, you're right!
+Valentin Crucifix HOLY SHIT
cullen H-S yes I know, this is awesome! :D
My god that guitar solo is wicked
0:58 when the drummer is in a hurry and watch the clock to see if he can make it to the second job
Obscura is getting there ! I totally suport them. I think this the future of Tech death metal
you should chek this band too then ! "Beyond Creation", found out about them 2 weeks ago.....i recommend you the album " The Aura"....it's freaking awesome
just did ! fucking awsome !
; ) happy you like it.
Techinical death metal always has been and always will be awesome.
I jam on this one on my uke
This is the song that got me into this band. Every instrument is expertly arranged. I just put up a cover of this song and that solo takes a long time to get down. Obscura is Tech Death at its finest!
People able to write things like this should rule the world.
That voice is quite original, it kinda stands out of other vocalists.
I think that is because he is also in a black metal band so it sounds like her is blackish death vocals
SmokeCheesus He sounds an awful lot like Jon Nodtveidt from Dissection.
What the hell happens with the sound @ 3:17 ?
Great tune nevertheless.
+Bruno Peres Yeah, glad someone else noticed too. It's like someone started blowing on the camera mic and it got added to the original track.
Yeah sounds awful
Yes, guitar cam, yes. I like to learn things from time to time.
And Jeroen Thessling is playing this fingerstyle. My mind explodes.
He's always been a beast.
I'm addicted in this masterpiece...
It sounds like Cannibal Corpse meets Dream Theater! Awesome stuff.
That's so accurate
HOLY SHIT. I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT. CC AND DT ARE MY FAVOURITE METAL BANDS.
and VERY VERY patient...world class teacher and extremely nice guy my buddy won a radio contest and we got to attend a drum workshop he was featured at...language barrier aside he astounded me w/ level of simplicity which he explained stuff while he doesnt gravity blast alot he explained it to where i who are not a drummer can now do the that particular blast...granted i cant maintain it or change out of it lol but i can do the work imo hannes is easily top 5 drummers/teachers of our generation
1:11
Obscura salivates from the technical music.
0:58 did the drummer check his watch ?
Wildchild 515 yes.
Dat Bass.
It seems difficult and even worse using a fretless
I have immense Respect for the singer now. For some reason i thought that before he was just Vocals and not Guitars and Vocals. Amazing.
This band technical proficiency is otherworldly!
Que banda fantástica, finado Chuck fez escola.
is that muhhamed on bass?
LOL
Foreal Though hahaha
*****
What? he looks the composer of Necrophagist.
Darkat Bathory His name is Jeroen Paul Thesseling, he's one of the very few bass players in death metal to play a fretless bass.
Silicon Carne Arran McSporran of DE PROFUNDIS (UK) also play Death Metal with Fretless bass and he was voted in the Top10 bass players by reader's of Zero Tolerance Magazine. Check them out:

Please let this vid hit a million views
Death, Obscura, Beyond Creation, Revocation, Gojira, Daath are some of the best techinical /old school death metal bands ever.
My neighbours called the cops coz I was playing this song loudly. The cops arrested my neighbours instead

I love how they make violence with melody.
Cant wait to hear that song live
