Does the remote overwrite him controlling it ? Also how long for the battery to chargeback ?

Yes the controler does overwrite the kids commends, I can not say much about charging time since I keep it plugged over night, I never run out of power playing for over 1-2 hours, we never play more than that at any given day, also I do not charge every night only when the battery dies, once a week may be.
