  • Traveling to Maldives on a budget. It has always been one of my dreams and going there with my DJI Mavic Drone was just awesome! I always thought that a holiday in Maldives would be expensive and was only a good option for a honeymoon or for very rich people, but we found out that you can also travel the Maldives quite cheap as a backpacker or traveler. So, why not?!
After arriving at the Maldives airport in Malé we took the boat to the first island where we were gonna stay during our Maldives travels. The island Maafushi has probably the most tourism from all the local islands, apart from Malé of course. We stayed in a very nice but affordable guest house managed by some fantastic local people. We dropped our backpacks and right away explored the rather small island by bicycle. Chilling at the beach and snorkeling were two activities that we did lots on this island.
After Maafushi island we traveled a bit further down to Fulidhoo island. An absolutely stunning small island. Less tourism and more of the picture perfect white beach and crystal clear blue water with palm trees situation. Flying the DJI Mavic drone in a place like this is just amazing. 4k footage looks good, but 4k footage in drone view from a tropical island looks even better! Besides playing with de drone we obviously did some relaxed tanning on the beach and also did some snorkeling around the island. The next day we did a boat trip to some sand banks that are popping out of the blue water randomly and also some good snorkeling and diving spots. We saw some dolphins along the way and jumped in the water. And at some point we were snorkeling with a huge group of Giant Trevally fish and also some sharks. No need to panic though, because these were nurse sharks and are not really dangerous for people. Snorkeling with huge fish like this was just an amazing experience and capturing shots with the GoPro was super fun! Back on Fulidhoo island we enjoyed some more beach and also spotted some stingrays at the shore. It was just lovely!
After Fulidhoo it was time to travel to the third and last island of our Maldives holiday; Thulusdhoo. The local ferry brought us up north to this (a bit bigger) island in about 4 hours. Thulusdhoo island is known for its two good surfing spots, Cokes and Chickens. During surf season a lot of surfers come to this place. Although we were visiting Thulusdhoo out of surf season so unfortunately no opportunity to surf here. But obviously we weren’t complaining. We rented a canoe and peddled to the small and idyllic island just 800 meters next to Thulusdhoo. Wow, wat a beautiful place and canoeing around this area was incredible. Obviously we took our drone and shot some nice areal shots from the island.
We really enjoyed our short Maldives holiday, especially because you
can experience Maldives even if you are on a backpacker budget. If you visit the local islands and are not staying in the expensive resorts this place is, next to very rich people and people who are on honeymoon, also interesting for backpackers and travellers.

Thanks! :D Yes, I use the Nebula 4000 lite. But they don't produce it anymore I think. There are better ones on the market now. But an electric stabilizer in general is an awesome tool for smoother and more cinematic footage! I love it!
