This is the best channel for content pertaining to the M50 and using it to its fullest capacity to create professional looking UA-cam videos. My son and I watch at least 3 of your videos daily and apply all of your techniques to our videos and we went from cringeworthy, amateurish videos to something I feel is on par with seasoned content creators in a week. Wasn’t cheap, but wasn’t exorbitant. Thanks SO much!
Thank you so much for all of your videos on the Canon M50 Mark II. They have been invaluable to me. I am a total amateur who started a UA-cam Channel a few months ago. I have never used a camera before. I am not much good with my MacBook Pro either, which I had donated by my wife, who is a software engineer. I was shocked to learn that the M50 is the ‘cheap’ camera. I started out with a webcam and then ‘upgraded’ to a 4K auto-focus camera from China called a Koshika (a firm which seems to have disappeared now). That camera cost me £140. The M50 was £624, plus I got on the 11- 22mm lens (again from watching your channel) to accommodate my small room where I film. That was another £369. It was money well spent, I think. However, at first I was totally overwhelmed by the controls, settings, etc. and yours are the only videos which I have been able to follow with any success. I now think I have my camera set up to film my next episode of Not the Chair Circle (my channel). It will be Ep. 3 of series 2, so I think it was high time that I got properly sorted out. Thank you again. Best regards, Bob McGowan.
Thank you so much for uploading this video. I am starting up a new UA-cam channel very soon and finding info on my canon m50 is a great help. Your videos are informational and impactful. Keep doing what you're doing and don't forget to take care of yourself!
7:54 For me, this is the money shot!!!! I have a tendency to overthinking and get paralysis by too much analysis. I was hoping I would get this back side view of your setup. You have no idea how helpful this is (ok, you probably have a fair idea! lol). Seriously, we can now figure out the distance of each element such as camera, camera angle, microphone, any tripods and clamp, light, sound blanket, desk and even your notebook at your right! I'm surprised that you don't have a fill light or top/hair light (it naturally bounce on the white blanket and ceiling I guess).
I would love to get this exact composition you use in all your video (like 12:22). I don't have gear and I would like to get this angle with an APSC sensor. So, what focal should I buy as a prime lens to replicate that? In the description you say you use 16mm and a 18-35mm zoom. But what is the exact lens for this shot? (in FF and equivalent for a 1.6 crop sensor) THANK YOU very much Mark
Great video and thank you for the tips to get the most out of my M50 II which i bought over a 2 years ago and have done nothing with but not I have time and really want to get the most out of it so this is very helpful. Thank you and for sharing

I am a serious camera nerd and I found your video to be a real "ok stop overthinking this just do what the gear needs and make content". Seriously, thank you. The light bulb K section worked for me 😆
Mark, thank you so much for speaking about color grading with the M50! I’ve been concerned it’s just one more thing I need to understand and master as I explore launching a channel. My worry was I know I have some colorblindness and wondered how I’d take a flat image and correct it in a way that looks best to the average person. Plus it’s just one more step to add complications to an already busy process. Again thanks! - Mark
Color correction by colorblind, sure, it make total sense! May I suggest the following... Sound test by half deaf WW veteran Proper focus adjustment done by that same 102 years veteran You can also ask an octopus to write you some valuable content isn't! Seriously, use/trust Canon folks, use their great technology to your advantage.
I was wondering why in some scenes your looking off to the left (your right) and now I know why. I thought you might be reading a script or cue, but after seeing the behind shot with the camera LCD panel swung out to monitor, it was clear. Came for M50 fish eye lenses, stayed for all the great content.
you can kinda cheat it with an intervalometer set to pushing the button every 30 minutes, but it has it's downsides (if you're using external audio for example, you'd have to not forget to clap every 30-ish minutes to sync the audio). I personally decided to not pursue it at this time, 30 minutes is plenty for my current video needs
I’ve been meaning to get a dummy battery, I just haven’t been able to decide on one. Other than the Canon made one I always see nightmare reviews from frying out the camera to a loud buzz on the internal audio.

About the microphone, I was thinking is it not better a wireless mic you put on the t-shirt? Do you have any suggestions about that? Thank you in advance
Hey Mark! Question about your back light, the little one that sits behind you mounted by a small tripod lighting up the wall behind you. I'm brand new to this stuff. I'm reading that you need a front light and a back light. But the other stuff I read mentioned pointing your back light at you. How come you don't point your back light at you? How come you point it at the back wall?
The light you are talking about it often called a hair or rim light, which make a bit of a highlight outline around you. The light I used lights up the wall as a backdrop. You can use either, or both, it’s just personal preference.
You can get some blur at 3.5 if you are close to the camera, and the background is further away, but yes, if you get a lens with f1.4 aperture you get a lot more blur.
Mark, please tell me...how do your shots go back and forth? Is that remote control? Is it in the editing? I have a channel, and I want to do this. Thank you. -Phil

About the microphone, I was thinking is it not better a wireless mic you put on the t-shirt? Do you have any suggestions about that? Thank you in advance
For that last one you could simply eliminate the battery issues with buying a dummy battery that hooks up to dc and plugs into the wall.
Yes, thats a good idea.

To get a 24fps look (with 25fps) but also get 50% slow motion with 50fps.

Yes, it’s all done in editing. I use final cut, witch has a multi cam editing function, that makes it pretty easy.
