Mad God was a beautiful thing to behold if you're a fan of old school effects that Tippett is known for. Not much of a real story other than vague intimations of a plot, just sort of a carnival ride through a fallen world cursed by its creator. Obviously it's lacking ingredients that other contributors to the creation of a film would bring, but there's no reason to hold it to that standard since it was only ever a personal passion project. A lot like Johan Johannsen's 'Last and First Men' being what you'd expect to see out of the guy who is usually just responsible for composing musical arrangements.
And I think Nope is my favorite movie monster ever. I still can't get out of my head how shockingly terrified I was during some of those scenes. It really reminded me of those tripods in war of the worlds who were spraying red mist all over that the people assumed was just processed human victims. I really enjoyed that movie but not for the script reasons that a lot of people were trying to sell the movie on. I was kind of ambivalent on the whole story about 'spectacle'. The more important thematic line in the movie to me was the one about 'you can't tame a predator you can only come to an agreement with one'. That's such a profound piece of natural philosophy that rings true.
Also I think the shoe at the beginning was Peele telling people 'don't over think it; weird shit just happens and we just have to accept that'. As if to tell the audience not to try to look too hard for meaning. That YOU will probably see what you see and interpret it your own way just like OJ and Jupe did.

    Here's mine:
    Top 5 First-Time Watches:
    5. This Is the Life (2008) - A documentary directed by Ava Duvernay that I didn't know I needed. Really opened my mind to The Good Life emcees, something I had no idea existed.
    4. Fritz the Cat (1972) - I have been wanting to see more of Ralph Bakshi's filmography because of me being a huge advocate for animation. Out of all of his films that I watched in July, this one is probably my favorite. Yes, it doesn't have much of a narrative, but I found myself invested in the existential aspects of Fritz's character.
    3. Whiplash (2014) - A gripping film that never lets go and leaves you with a challenging and somber note. So glad I finally watched this.
    2. RRR (2022) - An incredibly packed film that exceeded my expectations and has now piqued my interest in looking into Tollywood and Bollywood cinema.
    1. The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) - Wes Anderson can do no wrong. This is right behind Fantastic Mr. Fox as my favorite of his filmography
    Best Rewatch:
The Secret of NIMH (1982) - An absolute animation classic by Don Bluth. I now feel confident to list this as one of my personal favorites.
    Best Show/Series:
When They See Us (2019) - A harrowing but necessary miniseries chronicling the lives of the Central Park 5.
    Best Short Film:
Champ (2022) - A brief, but great, underrated, short film about a self-blaming victim of assault seeking vengeance. The final shot is super impactful no thanks to Eva Noblezada's lingered performance.
    Best Comedy Special:
n/a - I don't really watch comedy specials often, but I guess I'll use this time to say Jerrod Carmichael: Rothaniel is great.
    Worst Movie:
Heavy Traffic (1973) - I think I just need to watch this one again to really understand it. So far it is the weakest of Ralph Bakshi's films that I have seen so far in my opinion.
