    Thanks for the vid! I don't know what I was thinking with those initial placements and going for a city so late. I was putting way too much value on army but ironically didn't even end up getting it, this was painful to watch lol

      You're welcome! Thank you! The pain shows how much progress you've made since then! :-) Good luck!

      Sometimes you can play a knight to try and pluck a card in a jam, you had a few spots where you didn’t want to hold or trade in all your ores, and wheat was out there. That way you also get going towards 3 knights sooner. Also think you were too generous with your trade offers, try the 1 for 1s first.

    “Blue, being a little bit of a pig.” I choked on my soda.

    • @NeonateGaming
      @NeonateGaming  5 років тому +8

      Lol, yes. Blue and Red should have been "natural" trading partners (Blue without Brick, Red without Wood) but Blue's counters were so piggish, I noticed later in the game Blue accepted Red's trade offer, but Red chose rather to trade with Grey. Says something about human nature...

    My favorite one of your rules:
    - When behind, build cities.
    - When ahead, buy cards.

    • @NeonateGaming
      @NeonateGaming  5 років тому

      Thanks, it's one of my favorites too. Simple, logical.

    18:22 Going to the Bank with 4 wool, 1 grain and 2 ore to save for a City....Red's odd-on play was to trade the 3 wool for 1 ore, not for 1 grain. To get the missing resource for a city, you'd rather count on an 8 being rolled (5 pips) instead of a 10 (3 pips). Sure enough, next roll was an 8.

      Honestly, I haven't finished the video, so not sure who wins exactly, but at 20:40 into the game I can say that Red hasn't made one good move the entire game.

  • @nomadikmynd

    That was painful to watch. Red should have played knights as soon as Gray started buying D cards. The game even tried to hand him the win with an unusually high number of 10s being rolled.

    Great video and advice. Yikes on those initial settlement placements, the game was decided there. Red couldn't even win it despite the extremely plentiful 10 rolls.

    • @NeonateGaming

      Thanks! Yes, his initial picks made me realize rules like "Ore Wins" are simplifications. A beginner needs further experience to decided whether to pick a spot without Sheep or a spot without Wood. In this case, he should skip Sheep.

    Hey nice video man! I was wondering how you came up with the ratio of 5:3:2 for ore:wheat:sheep in rule 7 of your guide. Thanks man!

    • @NeonateGaming
      @NeonateGaming  5 років тому +1

      Thank you. The ratio is based loosely on the resources you need to build cities (three ore/two wheat) and buy development cards (ore/wheat/sheep). In practice, I found having 6/4/3 or 8/10/11 (ore/wheat/sheep) spots to be fairly reliable for building cities and buying development cards. Such spots have a ratio of 5:3:2.

    Blue had the best initial placements, but red and green together gave the game to red. I felt blue's pain...

    • @NeonateGaming
      @NeonateGaming  5 років тому +1

      Agreed, Blue looked the strongest from the initial placements. Only two 9s rolled and thirteen 10s, so yes, bad luck!

    How do u know which resource is the rarest?

    • @NeonateGaming
      @NeonateGaming  5 років тому

      Rule #11 When Third, Take Rare Resources. Rare in this situation means if you are third, and there is only one good producing spot (10+pts) next to the only good producing (3+pts) wood, brick, wheat, or ore, you should strongly consider taking it.

    As absolutely atrocious as this guy played, he STILL could have won if he had just used his Knights. He DID realize that the Knights had to be used in order to count for largest army, right? That's the only possible explanation I can see for holding all those Knights for so long, especially since he could have used one early on when Blue and Green hit on the 6 and Green had an extra Wheat that Red had been trying to get for ages for the 3rd settlement.......

    Im going to be honest, these videos aren’t nearly as enjoyable as your gameplays. It seems that there is a lot of effort going into this video (you have to edit out all the time in between player’s actions). I just feel that I don’t want to watch a novice play the game and hear you disagree with a lot of it. I feel like a live commentary is way easier to produce and higher in game quality. Thank you for keeping up with the uploads though!

    I usually like your videos, but...this guy was painful to watch.
    He needs so much coaching.
    I mean, I not always follow your advices, but those trades hurt a little inside.
    He was lucky to get those victory points, but buying development cards doesn´t give you a boosting advantage (monopoly may give you resources, but it is a rare card and it is mostly used as a punishment for other players, and the 2 free resources card is not a great deal, as you are trading 3 resources [one of them being ore and the other being wheat] for just any 2 resources).
    Hope he gets better

    • @NeonateGaming
      @NeonateGaming  5 років тому

      Yes, I disagreed with almost every decision, but perhaps it was more educational that way!
