I always knew that Sephiroth was extremely popular but after his Smash reveal I realized how much I truly underestimated his actual level of popularity.
Aw man I don't think the guy who called it was Sephiroth based solely on the sword slash sound when Galeem got cut in half was in this. That guy easily had the earliest realization.
You know a character is popular when he can kill the final boss in one hit,

The best part about this trailer is, the drums start and EVERYONE just immediately knows who it is. You don't even need to know ANYTHING about FF7, you hear the drums at the start of One-Winged Angel and you just KNOW.

Joker and Sephiroth both arguably created the most surprise and hype of Smash character reveals with people's reactions... It helps both occurred during the Game Awards to boot. A shame last year's Awards couldn't do a reveal.

Considering who the 5th DLC character was, they made the right choice not to show him there.
It also helps for those 2 that NOBODY was expecting them. For Joker, they didn’t even say whether or not they were doing a Smash reveal that night and even if they did, not a single soul would have expected Joker. Same with Sephiroth. People were thinking maybe Dante or Crash (both would still be unbelievably hype) but nobody ever considered Sephiroth save for a couple people
@@paulmoore5392 Also with Joker, the dancing game and Persona Q2 had just comed out so when joker showed up, everyone thought at first it was a port to switch, not smash, then boom, the letter showed up.

Sakurai is just using every new announcement to further assert his dominance over all of gaming. The man is in a league of his own for breaking the internet. Honestly Nintendo just keep adding to this game till the end of time we don't need a new game, just port it to every new system and keep adding new characters so Sakuri can continue to one up himself.
The mad man finally did it. He killed the final development joke about lacking content: The Final Fantasy drought.
For year it was "only 2 songs/Spirits" after the initial Smash 4 hype.
And he did it. It might ONLY be FF7 content, but he bumped up 7's songs to literally 11 and got FOUR NEW REMIXES out of the deal. We got Spirits of the entire main party. Sephiroth got an early bird bonus for fighting him, something LITERALLY ONLY MAX SAID AND THEY DID IT *JUST FOR HIM* BECAUSE WHY NOT. I'd be half convinced as a joke Sakurai did that last minute just because Max is a legitimate inspiration to the FF7 Remake dev team.
If the online of Smash didn't always suck, Ultimate would be unquestionably perfect.
The best part Sephiroth being announced was that a almost nobody saw it coming. And the fact that it was able to be kept a secret up till to the reveal is a feat in of itself cause you'd think news of such a well known villain of gaming would draw some attention.
I just noticed that when the camera focuses on Pit, you can mostly only see his left wing. A one winged angel.
And you can also see Pikachu and K. Rool corpse behind Pit as well.
Kinda cool how they subtly foreshadowed who the newcomer was

The one big takeaway I have from this, aside from the sheer joy people had. Was how many people with different languages and from all over the world that are likely around my age, all showing love for Sephiroth and what FF7 meant to them. Its awesome.

When im feeling lonely i always come back to these compilations and remember i have brothers and sisters all over the world who share the same joys and excitment as me
After the numbness of how unreal this reveal was worn off, it got me thinking, that Sakurai is either purposely making a pattern, or we're seeing more of what type of villains he wants in this game. Think about it, much like Ridley, (which personally I don't think the hype then doesn't come close to this) is very much like Sephiroth. Evil, badass, powerful, and most of all not knowing how to stay dead, because one way or another, they always come back, like a phoenix or a cockroach. This debut shows no matter what spin-off or cross over a hero goes to, their archnemesis, who should by all accounts be dead, always finds them, making it their life mission to make the hero's a living hell. Now I don't argue that fan service also plays a huge role in, if not the entire reason for them being on here, but the way this trailer was presented to me, was Sakurai's way of saying, "I brought them back from the dead, so you can never EVER escape them." Not Just Ridley, Bowser, Ganondorf, King K Rool, in a small way Meta Knight and sort of kinda Wolf. Now Sephiroth has pretty much joined the club.
That malevolent smile on Sephiroth's face as he looks straight at cloud and it almost looks like he mouthes the words "Hey Cloud did you miss me?" seriously spine-chilling intro.
Mario’s “death” was one of the more jarring scene of that trailer... it still gets me in all the repeats...
When I saw this live, at the part where galeem got cut in half, even before it zoomed in on him, my mind was thinking sephiroth and I was like "NO NO THIS NOT SEPHIROTH, THIS IS NOT SEPHIROTH," shows sephiroth descends to battle. "ITS SEPHIROTH!!!!"
I remember this day. I was lucky enough to have just gotten an X Box Series X, my copy of Cyberpunk 2077 just came in the mail, I turned on the Game Awards, Cyberpunk was downloading and then I saw the Sephiroth reveal. It was a good day.
It's nice how, even though most people didn't get the Kingdom Hearts character they wanted, nobody seemed Sora-ly disappointed.
They got two Kingdom Hearts characters: they should not be complaining.

I know I'm 6 months late, but thanks for including me in the compilation. I still remember the massive amounts of excitement I felt when I saw this character for the first time. One of the hypest moments in Smash.

I would have to say Sephiroth is the best reveal so far. I seen the other reaction movies but it’s only half as long as this one. The fact that everyone if not a majority of people knows Sephiroth, let alone his theme, means that he really left an impact in the gaming community.

@@cristobalcaro6917 Sora isn't making it there was a leak that predicted everything and it also said that negotiations for Sora fell through because of Disney and Geno was considered a joke by Square. the next likely characters are going to be from SNK or Sega.
