I actually prefer not only the newer bottles of Naxos but also the presentation it comes in.
Indeed, the two thin layers you need to open to get the bottle just adds a sense of luxury and sophistication.

Naxos is less pipe tobacco and more honey vanilla candy. When I think of pipe tobacco I think of Burberry London.

Agree with this 100%! I consider Naxos a vanilla scent with some tobacco. PH is a tobacco scent with some sweet cherry.

I love Xerjoff Naxos. I own a full 100 ml bottle on its latest presentation. Very elegant and enticing. Nice review and comparison. I am a lover of tobacco perfumes. I own over 50 of them, all niche. I bought Naxos because reviews made me believe it was a tobacco perfume. It was a home run blind purchase. HOWEVER, I’m convinced Naxos is not a tobacco perfume. I consider it to be primordially a honey perfume with a slight tobacco undertone. It is all about the honey. I don’t get cherry. But noses are different.
It's more about the honey/lavender/tonka. I find it actually to be pretty versatile as well. I love it.

True! Real lavender tends to smell like Vicks, at least the bushes in our garden do. I keep some of the buds in my rooms during winter and it is the same vibe like found in fougere royal, Layton and Naxos
I honestly prefer Spicebomb Extreme to Pure Havane for a pipe tobacco fragrance. Havane is great, but just lacks the spicy sexiness of Spicebomb Extreme. Naxos is gorgeous though and very unisex to my nose, hence why I'm wearing it.
I love SB Extreme as well. Which one do you prefer between it and the Naxos?

I'd say I put Spicebomb Extreme, Tobacco Vanille, and Herod all on the same level with Naxos a level above the others not only in smell but also performance. You'd be hard pressed to find a better performing fragrance. It's about as strong as Dior Sauvage Elixir.
Spicebomb extreme is too basic for me at least
For me this makes me think of honey, vanilla, not much tobacco.

Excellent stuff, however I'd say it leans a little older. First smelled it as a 23 year old fragrance beginner and thought wow, it's nice but it smells like rich middle-aged man. Smelling it now - I'm a huge fan, but I'd say definitely more suited for age 30+ in my experience.

The name of the perfume, came from the Greek island Naxos, which is the largest island of Cyclades in Greece.
One of my over all favorite scents. I think the best ever pipe tobacco is Hilde Solani Bell’Antonio. Not as easy to find but I think more realistic than Naxos or Pure Havana (I really like these as well but just slightly different)
Pure Havane is one of my favorite in my collection. I may have to sample Naxos just to make my own comparison but having tracked a bottle of the original (2010)formulation of Pure Havane at a bargain of a price, I am not in a hurry to do so.
Comparing Pure Havana to Naxos is like comparing a Hyundai to a Bentley. Just no comparison. Yes pure Havane is a nice cologne but Naxos is simply on another level, hence the price. I own pure havane and plan on buying Naxos next week after sampling it.
@@diznutz5110 just bought Naxos during Labor Day sale at one of the discounters and yes it’s more elegant. One reviewer described the differences very well.

The fragrance is very nice for sure but the performance in my opinion for the current formulation in the market is not justifying the selling price.
I have it in my collection and i adore the smell after all 😉

I do get that camphorous vibe in Naxos and it is only when I smell it up close. Also I heard that Naxos gives off different facets depending on your body chemistry.

Ill go as far as to say you could wear this in spring and some cooler summer nights. I detect some freshness with this. Which I love.
Thank Ash, this has been on my radar for a while now. I was intrigued when you mentioned the camphorous note. I have a black musk/lavender/lime attar which I think uses spike lavender which I really enjoy. It is a stronger camphorous note than other lavenders.

I own Naxos in the new presentation. It’s one of my top 5 fall and winter niche fragrances. My others are PDM Herod, BR540 Extrait, Creed Royal Oud, and Obvious Parfums Un Bois.
Hey since both Herod and Naxos, could you help me pick one between the two? Which is the superior scent and better performer?
@Jay N That’s a tough one. If I had to pick, it’d be Naxos. They both perform well on my skin. I think Naxos performs slightly better in projection and longevity. I do 3 sprays tops with either. You don’t want to overspray either of these. It really depends on what you want in the scent. To my nose, I get more honey, tobacco, lavender from Naxos and some freshness from the bergamot and lemon in the opening. There’s kind of a dusty/dry sweetness in the dry down. Herod is closer to a pipe tobacco. There’s no freshness. I get mostly tobacco, cinnamon, pepper, incense in the opening and mid. In the dry down, i get a sweet vanilla and musk. I would recommend going to a place like Scent Split and get a decant of both before buying a full bottle. Get at least a 2ml decant. The 2ml and higher are vials with a sprayer. The 1ml has a little cap with a dab stick. I hope this helps. Let me know what you think after you get your nose on them.
@@l-mac5105 Appreciate the advice. I have a 10ml of Herod already and I love the scent. I'm only considering Naxos (which I haven't tried yet) for: 1 - Herods performance is sketchy. Projects for maybe an hour and a half before it becomes a skin scent for the next 3-4 hrs. And 2, I'm under the impression Naxos is slightly more versatile.
@@jay2die4 The original Herod juice was great. They reformulated it and it was spicier and didn't project the cherry tobacco as much or as long unfortunately.

A wonderful fragrance. There is a fougere vibe here…but it’s so much more than that; it’s like a fougere that is somehow honeyed with this excellent green leaf tobacco scent. If you sprayed on Aramis and then sprayed spice bomb on top of that maybe you could recreate it, but probably not. And for those that think it’s doesn’t project well…you may have a problem with your sense of smell. Two sprays and my entire house smells of Naxos.
Naxos is probably my strongest performing fragrance. It's at least as strong as Sauvage Elixir.
Pure Havane has a better cherry pipe tobacco fleeting note in the opening (at that moment in time it is also much more tobacco-centered) but to me it falls back to traditional A*men DNA in the drydown :( I love Naxos but I agree with some comments below, It does not showcase the tobacco note as aggressively but instead does it milder and for longer :)
Call it cheap or inexpensive...but Pure Havane, like the original Amen, is a real masterpiece of perfumery.
Just got through my 10ml decant, and I can safely say that I really dislike Naxos - it's very medicinal and unattractive to me. I even got a comment about its medicinal nature from a guy who smelled it on me and said, "Ah, Vick's Mentholatum, the smell of the season (winter)!" Glad I didn't follow the hype train and blind buy it... not blind buy worthy, especially considering the price.
18.21 is probably they best with that Manuka Honey!!! Delicious 😋

But Naxos isn't heavy cherry pipe tobacco. It's more honey/lavender/tobacco. The dry down is heavenly with vanilla and tonka joining in.

I totally got the camphorous quality you were talking about, I think there's some play between the tobacco and lavender that gives it that herby, medicinal dryness.

The most natural tobacco scent I’ve ever tried is Wild Tobacco from Illuminum in London.
I was surprise how natural the tobacco is, I forget I this had tobacco in it and was looking where the the smell of tobacco was coming from in my car

I received my discovery pack a few days ago. Just got to try my first sample 20 min ago when I got out of the shower after work. Went with Naxos. I am speechless. Other than PDM I have not had my nose on many niche frags. I am humbled.

I’d say Naxos is the best pipe tobacco scent, barely edging out Herod. My fav tobacco scent tho is still TF Tobacco Vanille. Tobacco and vanilla together is just excellent.
Honestly, I think JTC 400 does the honey-tobacco-vanilla thing better from the same house.

I wonder Ash when will you get and review Insurrection II Wild? You covered most of the insurrection line but you skipped on the best one. You might like it more than Pure Havane. I think it's closer to Naxos than Pure Havane since Pure Havane is so much sweeter.

Versace Dreamer is easy to pull off in warm weather if you consider that one a true tobacco fragrance. But for fall and winter its gotta be Spicebomb Extreme, Wanted by Night, or Havane for my husband.
The dry down of Naxos is awesome! For me, it’s competing with aventus.
Disagree on not getting the lavender in Pure Havane. I have that one and the first thing I noticed out of everything going on in that sent is the lavender

Its a different style of fragrance, it depends on, the occasion, time of year and of course person. I could not say one is better than the other.

If 18.21 actually had tobacco as one of its notes it would be amazing. The dry down is excellent regardless.

I'd say yes. Naxos is far more of a crowd pleaser. I've never met anyone who didn't love it. Carlisle on the other hand is like Black Afghano to me. A great fragrance but not easy to pull off and not everyone will like it.

Bro this straight up smells like vicks vaporub to me. The opening is just vicks and then as it dries down it's still vicks but sweeter and less intense. I've only tried my sample a couple times so maybe as I test it out more my thoughts will change. Anyway I wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy thinking it smells like vicks lol so thank you for the confirmation.
I find PDM Layton to have that exact same Vicks Vaporub smell.

I highly doubt it. I keep hearing pure malt is being discontinued also. Those two fragrances are by far their best two and probably best selling.
I smoke cigars and pipe tobacco, and I’m always disappointed when I smell tobacco fragrances. They try to , make them too sweet.

It is not identical to pure havan for those who think it is. PH smells cheap af and synthetic! Naxos is pure amazing quality and smells so rich! Notes are well balanced and compliment the fk out of eachother. Naxos is 100x better than PH! Naxos is my favorite Xerjoff hands down
