    More retention does not give more results. Each body is different, with time you will manage to prolong the retentions. The important thing here is that you take advantage of every second of the time you can retain the breath. To go deep and relax. Let the body do what it wants. Nice Job!!

    Exactly how I feel. When my mind is busy while I do the breathing exercise I can't keep breath longer. When I relax and concentrate on the exercise it goes very easy.

    I agree; its a process not a destination.
    However that being said, I've been doing it daily+ for over a year. Never been too bothered about the 'buzz' but after several+months of hitting a brick wall at 30+ seconds, I decided to spend some quality time breathing... Working through it until I reached 3 minutes again.
    Won't bother me on a daily basis, but every now and again, part of the process is learning to push through barriers, or figure out what's going on.
    Hope this helps 😁🤗

    Such a cool reminder. It was synchronistic as this morning I was just cruising with my breathing ( on WH app. ) I totally was not into where I was in the retention - then my mind clicked in .. ohh where am I ; what’s he saying ; where’s the drum.. and immediately I needed to breath. While not thinking about it I was just beautifully cruising. Yep - don’t think about it 🌟🔆🙏🏽

    I've been doing the method now for three years. I don't or have not done the plunge. But, I have held for 4:10 minutes before. Now, it's not so important to me I go with my body/mind/spirit normally its anywhere from :45 - 2:30. Afterwards I do self hypnosis I use either Gateway Hypnosis or Jose' Silva Technique. Cold Showers and outside cold-exposures for me for now. I no longer have Arthritis or its remission idk and also have lost 45Lbs. In addition I do 5-6 day 16-20 Water fasting and 4 hour eating window. I try to workout 1-3x a week and hike whenever I can between 3-5 miles. IK that this might be a different outlook from some, but it works for me. I will never stop!

    Agree. Dont make it too complicated, Dont Focus on retention times or on counting the breaths while taking it in. Do it gently til you feel lightheaded and go each time a little above without force.
    Force is destructive. Its good to follow along with the breathing app or a guided breathing session. But the most effects you will have by doing it on your own once your body understood how to handle it.
    My Tipp: just make free a space of about 15 minutes and Start with one round. After the First round it gets easier and easier, the mind begins to shut down and it becomes natural over time.

    I smoked cigarettes and cigars and marijuana for 20 years and I quit smoking tobacco 7 months ago. Ive been practicing wim Hoff for 4 months and Ive been making progress. Its slow but its real. I've also been running. I think as long as you are committed you will see progress.

    Beautiful, I relate to the tendency to perform and progress. It’s a human trait. But we must remember what we’re actually doing. Wim has mainstreamed pranayama for a very good service to humanity. Below all the egoism is a step on the path to surrender to our individual Higher Self. That is ultimately what these disciplines are aimed at. It would be a prime factor if this is understood from the outset. Yoga is not a sport. Hatha yoga and Pranayama yoga are medicinal actions designed to bring balance to the initiate of Self Realization. Grow old with me. It will be fun.

    I have started using the Take a Deep Breath Nitric Oxide video along with an exercise from Patrick McKeown of pinching the nose and moving the head to clear the nose before I start the Wim Hoff breathing. This has helped make the Wim Hoff breathing and breath hold an easier process for me.

    The first time I tried the Wim Hof breathing technique. I did advanced breathing. Not thinking of starting at beginner. When I woke up all of my organs were vibrating like crazy. I was too scared to do it a second time because I felt like my body was about to collapse. That feeling mostly in my upper back between the shoulder blades. I stopped doing it the next day hoping that feeling will go away. They were vibrating for about two years. It started getting worse if I had a long day at work, or working out after a few days. That happened about everything month. Then It got to the point I had to miss work every cpl days to rest for a few days cause I was too weak in my upper back, dizzy, n brain fog, til I got my strength back. I was so desperate to get my health back to normal before I did this. Then a cpl months ago I decided to try beginner breathing technique. Then everything melted away. It's not completely gone, cause I still get weak in the sun, or after work only for three days in. The trembling in my upper back scares me because it feels like I'm gonna drop n start shaking. Do u know how to reverse or get rid of this feeling I get after hard work? I really don't know what to do about this. It's taking a toll on me mentally 😖😣

    I have two questions... (I've been doing the Wim Hof breathing method for a few weeks and trying to find out everything I can) I appreciate the information on your Channel...1. I am 55 years old and I'm doing this to be helpful to myself but my concern is around aneurysms; I get from watching various instruction videos that it's important to relax as much as possible when doing the rounds of breathing and certainly during the breath-holding but the 15-second squeeze after each round a holding the breath... I wonder if that is essential and if that is completely safe? 2. Oxidative stress... my understanding is that when there is increased breathing there is increased oxidation in the body which creates free radicals... am wondering what you think about this? would it be good to take antioxidants before and or after this breathing technique, as in exercising or working out? I really appreciate you answering these questions if you can, thank you!

    The thing i do before a breathing session is a just sit down and relax and try to get my breathing calm and relaxed, then i do a meditation session for about 15 to 30 min and after that I start the Breathing exercise.

    I went for over 8 minutes one time. I read that the reason we can do that is because the short deep breaths take out the CO2 and that’s what tells your body it needs to breathe, so that makes me think a really long retention isn’t a good thing at all. I’ve started cutting it off at 90 seconds. Am I right? Is it dangerous to go a super long time while doing this WHM?

  • @haeppyday

    THANK YOU TADB! A question that's been nagging me. Also: Does someone know why I can hold my breath with full lunges even after the empty lungs retention way longer than the empty lung retention? Am I doing something wrong?

    • @TAKEADEEPBREATH
      @TAKEADEEPBREATH  3 роки тому +1

      full lung retention means essentially you have lots more O2 held in the lungs and upper airways ready for the body to be processed, so its natural to be able to hold with full lungs longer.

    I find if I don’t breath out before breath hold I can hold my breath for three minutes, if I breath out fully I can only manage about one minute , but they say breath out fully it’s confusing

    • @jameshill80
      @jameshill80 3 роки тому +1

      When it comes to the WHM I've never heard Wim or anyone say breathe out fully, its always"let it go". If you just let it go you probably still have about 30-35% left in your lungs. You keep some oxygen in while pushing out CO2
      For the retention it shouldn't really make a difference and is probably in your mind. You've already taken around 40 big breaths and you have saturated your body with oxygen and that initial urge to breathe after a couple of minutes is your brain trying to trigger the breathing mechanism even though you don't actually need to. The Method is about overcoming these mechanisms and gaining more control of the autonomic nervous system.

    I found that retention times reflect how I'm handling stress. But the biggest thing was that I slowed it down. I do my own pace. I breathe in slower to get deep. And I just go to when it feels right. I stopped following videos and just did it to nothing it to sound. Ram Dass loving awareness by east Forest

    For me it's actually not a macho thing, I'm a woman but I want longer retention times just because I'm curious as to the effects of longer breath holds. Not that I'd force myself to do it if I couldn't do it, I won't but at the same time, I am curious as to what five minutes does and so fourth.

      @plutotoad203 Рік тому

      Patrick McKeown has his own breathing technique so he's technically a competitor but I've heard Patrick say something about "over breathing," the good thing about Wim Hof is that you don't have to over do it so easy fix. Aside from that, Patrick is out to sell things so he's naturally gonna talk crap about Wim Hof even though Wim doesn't do that to anyone.
