I was brought up with this and looked upon the characters then as more or less family. It has changed so much and not for the better,I have not watched C.S. for twenty years but how i love to revisit all these old friends
They never should have killed off Martha Longhurst.. the three of them were a great comedy trio.. they had amazing chemistry and were so believable. It wasn’t as good when she left.

@@alexanderjones9572 I don’t think she’s the pub type of gal. I feel she’d be more at ease with Emily Bishop or Rita later on. Ena and Martha would give her anxiety. She needs nice people to be around. 😆
Esther was played by Daphne Oxenford, known to my generation and a few others as the voice who asked "Are you sitting comfortably....?" at the start of Listen with Mother on the BBC light programme.
We’ve seen/heard a bit about clothes being mainly home made. Ida knits and mentioned she knitted Ken’s jumper, and now we see Christine and her mum working on her dress for the dance. Before fast fashion. Yeah, I’m going off of Christine. She’s a bit aggressive. Oooh, wibbly wobbleys. I thought she was dying for a minute. I guess it was meant to show time passing. Dennis has cool rolled sleeves. Ivan is a lovely. May’s hat is really nice. Noooo, don’t touch that dress, kid!!!!! She’s that hefty, says Ena stuffing her face with chocolate. I save my nice welcome for nice people. You can move out of my bed because I’m coming home to die on it sharpish! Ivan is very European. A Chianti bottle! That dress is going to touch the fire isn’t it…. Oh, it’s soiled. Sad but better than an inferno. Why are all the kids annoying brats in this show? Pretty sure Harry forgot his lines here. I can’t think of any particular story line I’m looking forward to next week. Wonder when I will get a drama shock?

Merry Christmas Corrie. Not. Humbug. Not one iota of decorations, trees, cards, pressies. They start at normal speech & 15 secs later they're SHOUTING & SHOUTING at each other & then back to normal..
They probably had no idea when filming these people like us would be watching over 60 years later ha
Wish I could go back to those days.
Elsie is so kind to the children. A very good mother.
This is my go to comfort to have on in background in bed xxx

I like the how the ending credits showed the houses and who lives there.
Thanks for posting! ✌
Me too good idea
Thank you so much! It’s lovely to see characters my mum always talks about! This is much better than what’s being aired now.
How lovely when the carol singers turned to face the camera.

When men dressed in suites and ties and hats .. it's all gone !
don't get me started on the things women wear now days
Television. Men didn't dress like that then and don't know because suits are uncomfortable.

Just wow. The longest credit roll in Corrie history.

Love this.
May Hardman and Esther Hayens brought a bit of class to the cast - old style actresses like from the days of the old British black and white films
Shame May didn’t last longer. She could’ve become friends with Ena, Minnie and Martha!

Christine’s date was Tony Blair’s late father in law.
And one of Pat Phoenix’s husbands

I'm not sure it's the same Anthony Booth. I thought Blair's dad in law was the "Till Death Do Us/Us Do Part" Anthony Booth.
Yes it was the same Tony Booth.
