      Hi, I'm a new fan! I love watching *realistic* videos for the same reason I don't use Instagram anymore (so many unrealistic stuff out there lol). I'd love to see a budget-related vlog, like how long will a 10/20$ take you in NYC or somethin' food/lifestyle related will be helpful. Thanks queen

      I would like to see how to select a burrow that is safe as possible and cost friendly. The extravagant apartments that I saw before you were destroying my bucket list of living in New York and have access to train, city and work etc.. I too am not knocking those who can afford a $3k apartment in the city. Thank you for kindness and support.

      That was all last year though. Rents are WAY HIGHER now. They really lowered the prices in 2020/2021 because everyone had left the city during quarantine, but now that the city has been back for a while the rents Were raised again. I also moved here last year with two friends, we got a 3b/2br apartment in Upper Manhattan for $2,700. Now our lease is about to expire, so I’ve been apartment-hunting again, and the same amount of money won’t get me more than a studio around here.

    the other video i saw like this claimed to be realistic but only looked at luxury apartments priced around $3k a month. thanks for being humble and normal. some wealthy renters don't realize their unwillingness to consider living in older buildings is their own downfall...older building=rent control=more protections and rights as a renter

    I both love this video for being honest about how most people in NYC live (you're a hometown girl, you know the truth!) and also mad because you're spilling the secrets! These youtubers are paying exorbitant rents in mostly gentrified neighborhoods and many are hiding the fact that they have family helping them out, and like you said, it's just not realistic.

    I love this video! Thank you for showing apartments that weren’t in the city. Don’t get me wrong, I love watching apartment tours from rich UA-camrs who pay $3000+ for rent but at the same time, all of my friends and family members don’t pay all of that for living here lol. My parents have a 2 bedroom in Brooklyn for only $1,500. It’s so spacious and in a beautiful neighborhood and way bigger than those apartments in the city. I also live in a 2 bedroom in Queens that has a backyard and parking for only $1,600. So many non-new Yorkers think that they have to live in the city but there are other boroughs too lol. I mean, if you have the money then go for it. I wish I can afford to live in the city! But it can be discouraging to those who want to move to NYC but think they can’t afford it

Also love that you want to be around and aren’t afraid of other brown people. I feel like so many youtubers come from these cookie cutter white washed backgrounds and that’s reflected in where they choose to live. Thank you for keeping it 100. Finally! A realistic apartment hunt video. I loved this so much! Like you, I'm always frustrated by the other videos that act like only Manhattan and Williamsburg are the only two places to search for apartments in NYC. I live in the South Bronx, myself, so I know all about the affordability of the outer boroughs... and living where these out-of-state transplants are apparently afraid to go. I'm currently living alone in a studio slightly bigger than yours, and it runs me $1530/mo (up from $1480 after my latest lease renewal). I'm near both the D and 4 trains, with the 2 and 5 trains only a further 10 mins walk away. It takes me only 20 minutes to reach midtown Manhattan by subway from where I live, so I actually find it hilarious how out-of-towners are so scared to rent in my neighborhood. It's quite silly, especially considering how much cheaper it is here. My studio has a large living space, a separate antechamber before the living room (where I keep my desk and bookshelves and workout equipment), a separate kitchen, and 3 huge closets! One of the closets is a walk-in with a double row for hanging clothes. There also is an in-building (not "in-unit") laundry room in the basement that has 4 modern washers and 4 dryers.
    Thanks for this video. I'm actually thinking about moving from the Bronx (I was born and raised here) to Brooklyn. I wouldn't want to live in the so-called trendy parts of BK though, but the areas that are more filled with immigrants and fellow brown people. These are also the places hipsters and transplants never consider, so it's not too bad even for BK. But, hey, after watching your video -- I might just have to consider moving to Queens instead. The Dominican side of my family lives there, so I'm not unfamiliar with Elmhurst and Corona and Flushing, etc. Very diverse!

  • @AndrianaFromQueens

    Yes yes yes! I am so glad you shared your input on living in Queens. I could never live in Manhattan because of their insane price points and the fact that the culture just doesn't match up to Queens. I also have a video showing my apartment in Queens. It's my most viewed video and I think it's because, like you said, all these NYC apartment hunt and tour videos are all $5,000+ apartments in Manhattan...not realistic and now showing the true beauty of NYC!

    I loved the vid. I wish other apartment hunters would tour apartments that are more realistic and affordable for the average person, but they are looking for their dream place with the budget that they have. I always wonder how in the world can a early 20 something afford a $3000 apartment when there are people that have been working for decades and they can't even afford that. It's sad that the cost to put a roof over your head is sooooo expensive. And NY is not the only city that the rent is crazy in, but that you for sharing that you see the issue with rent and even when it is affordable for you, it can still be a struggle because you still have to live and survive.

  • @suqarBoomBoom
    @suqarBoomBoom 2 роки тому +16

    It’s 40x the rent and 80x the rent for your guarantor. I live on the UES in a 1-bedroom, before that lived Downtown in FiDi with a roommate. When I chose to live alone it was like the Hunger Games finding an apt. It’s seriously ridiculous and things need to change.

    • @mohuyakhan
      @mohuyakhan  2 роки тому +2

I had to move to NY for school and even had a NY realtor (who wasn’t much of a help with my price point) I ended up in Jersey where it only takes me 15 min to get into the city. So I agree with all your points plus I pay wayyyyyy less than 1500. I also think your points apply to moving in any state as well, especially if you’re moving to a popular city in a particular state. Im definitely glad I watched your vid., I’m planning to move away from jersey/NY and you made me realize that you can’t be afraid to ask the person that is showing you the apartments if they have others you can look at, you never know what apartment gems they may have.

If I'm not a UA-camr with 800k subs, I cannot afford to live in the city. I watch Cash Jordan because his contents shows a variety of cheaper options but I'm really attracted to East village. The prices are still hefty for me, I don't want to live with a roommate too lol.

    Interesting, i lived in Queens (Astoria) for about 7 years, but moved to a 1br in lower Manhattan during in early-2021 when rents were super low, and I’m loving it. I’m currently paying exactly what you’re paying, although it’s going up to $1,900 when the pandemic deal ends. Also, at least for me, it was 40X the rent, not 70X, and I believe a 700+ credit score, although I honestly don’t even know if they ran it because I was approved in less than a day. There were so many empty apartments in early 2021 that the whole process only took a couple of days. I guess it’s much more competitive now?

I know I can't afford it BUT I'm afraid prices will only get higher if I don't jump at it. I used to have a place half that price just a few years ago but I let it go like an idiot thinking I could do the 6 hour commute a day to work. I tell all my clients this all the time. If you can be flexible on location you can get so much more for your money. But ppl are so bent on living in Manhattan. But hun you would be so surprised how many people can pay $3000 and up for an apartment and they’re around our age…smh. Great video!

    I want to clarify for you guys, when she says NYC, she is referring to manhattan. Which is one of the five boroughs that comprise NYC. Queens is another borough of NYC. These youtube vids that talk about $2k+ apartments are mostly in the popular parts of Manhattan. Being the popular part of NYC, the rent there is very expensive. You can find cheaper rent FOR SURE in the other boroughs or in the very upper side of manhattan

    There’s something beautiful about speaking to a random stranger in your home language. I remember this one time in a Mishti shop the guy behind the counter gave me an extra free samosa cause our whole interaction was in Bangla. Are there many sylheti speakers in NYC? cause over here in the UK most Bengali’s are Sylheti

    I don't live in new york, but LA. My rent here is 800. I don't live in an apartment, but I did tour apartments that were 3,000 for a three bedroom, so a thousand each. Or 1500 for a one bedroom.. It can be done even in cities were influencers loved to live in the most expensive places possible

    I'm shook 30x your monthly rent had me running to my calculator app ... that 49 500 of your 1650 rent. So I'm understanding this correctly you have to earn 50 k a month in order to get a $1650 apartment????
    How does anyone live in the city with it 75x the rent. That's robbing low income blind of the opportunity to live even in their historical neighborhoods. That plus gentrification must be so hard finding a place without having a bunch of roommates

    • @mohuyakhan
      @mohuyakhan  2 роки тому +2

      no that means your yearly income has to be 30x times your monthly rent! but, the second part of what you said is completely true and remains the same sentiment

    • @MsTiffinator
      @MsTiffinator 2 роки тому

      @@mohuyakhan oh okay well that's a little better at 49 500 a year. Its still more than minimum wage at full time hours so that's still rough. Unless they have a good paying job

    • @lorrainei1622
      @lorrainei1622 2 роки тому

      Not everyone asks for the 40x the rent, some landlords let it slide as long as you have a stable job, income and decent credit you can rent a apartment in nyc, Especially in places like queens.

    Thanks for sharing your experience - it’s helpful for a lot of folks who are looking and may need a bit of guidance on how to get started. It’s incredible how much some of the young people are spending to live in Manhattan with roommates in tiny spaces in walk up buildings!
    You were lucky to find this apartment and I love the layout - definitely worth the price… is your place rent stabilized? I know the building is but I wasn’t sure if the law changes once the apartment was vacated, renovated and set at a market rate rent.
    Elmhurst is such a diverse neighborhood that has been changing over the last 10 years - it’s interesting to see the evolution and I do love the fact even with these changes it has still retained the cultural fabric it’s known for.

    • @mohuyakhan

      never knocking anyone's decisions, but i think it's so much more worth it to be happier in an apartment that you can afford AND love and not just moving somewhere for the "aesthetic." as far as I know, it is stabilized. i was born in elmhurst and it's so crazy to come back to live here after so many years. thank you so much for watching again 💖💖

    I don't know why I hear nobody talking about Washington heights. It's a neighborhood in Manhattan and their prices are insane for NYC prices. I saw so many apartments for under 2k. And you can easily split that with a roommate. And Washington heights is in Manhattan of all boroughs. Living in Manhattan for under 1k (if you split rent with a roommate) is insane.
