Always love your reviews. Thanks Matt!
Cheers, mate! 👊🏽
Nice review. Pegasus sets the standard in my view of what a daily trainer should be. Whether it is marathons or 40 yard dashes the Nike Pegasus does the job.
They get a lot of hate, but they've stood the test of time and I agree with you that they're a great do-it-all kind of shoe!
Great overview, Matt! I was already running when the first Pegasus appeared although I don't think I ever tried them on. I did try on several later versions in stores but never made it to the checkout line with any of them. I always went for something with less weight and a lower heel. But respect to Nike for staying true to the model's heritage while updating it. Other brands might do well to follow that example. Also, the US elite men are in the same boat as you. Despite supershoes, superfuels, and every supposed training and recovery breakthrough, they can't match their marathon times of 10-15 years ago either.
Perhaps Nike needs to invest more in R&D to combat aging, and you can only have the age-defying treatment if you run in their shoes?
Seems like a marketing gimmick that could scam, err,...I mean "help" a lot of runners!
@@its_Matt_B_ 😁If my memory serves, Salazar was working pretty hard in that area, one of the things that got him into so much trouble.
@@largeeddie Yeah, you're right! Nike would do well to stay away from anything that guy was involved in.
Thanks for the review Matt, when I got into running the Pegasus was the first proper running shoe I got which I like and had no issues with.
This is why the Peg remains so popular! It's a great shoe for runners starting out because it can do so much. I was in a similar position; I didn't start with the Pegasus, but I got my first pair fairly quickly and loved them!
Got a pair of the Peg 40s for walking and my stand up desk at work. I wouldn't run in them, but love them as a great looking walking shoe. The 41 sounds much better in terms of the specs and performance but I'm still going to look elsewhere at the $140 price point for my daily trainer.
We're lucky to have so many good options to choose from at this price point. Pegs seem to drop in price fairly quickly so it's a good option to wait a few months if you want to try them. 👊🏽
What is your opinion on cushioning on front foot? I heard other reviews say that front cushioning is not good on longer runs? What is your thought on this?
I didn't notice anything that made me think it didn't have enough cushion on the forefoot! My longest run was only 13 miles, so perhaps the other reviewer you saw ran farther. Who knows? They could also be heavier than me. There are a lot of factors to consider and it's important to remember you're only seeing the reviewers perception of the shoe.
Yes 💯 agree! So many factors, 13 miles is pretty good distance to feel any discomfort if any!! Thank you so much for your prompt response and time!! Have a great one!
Is the pegasus line great for walking? I walk 45 mins on my way to work everyday. I don't run, just looking for a comfortable walking shoe. I've only been using basketball shoes my entire life, this is the first time I'm looking to get running shoes. What line would be the best for walking?
The Peg will work well for walking. Most running shoes, especially daily trainers, will work for walking. After looking at some other options I have on hand, I think something like the Brooks Ghost or Asics Gel-Kayano would work better than the Pegasus; they both have thicker outsole rubber on the heel area, which it seems to me would make them more resilient as a walking shoe.
I have never run in Pegasus. Many runners mention Pegasus 35 being the best and of course there was the legendary Pegasus Turbo and there was a lot of disappointment with Turbo reboot as Pegasus Turbo Nature.
I think at this price level, this version sounds like decent shoe. If you get a a pair of Adidas SL2 it would be a great comparison between the two competitors. IMHO, it is competing with:
Adidas Adizero SL 2
Brooks Ghost 16
ASICS Gel-Cumulus 26
HOKA Clifton 9
Hoka Mach 6
The only one of these I haven't tried is the Adidas SL2. I don't think it's directly comparable to the Ghost or Cumulous because it performs WAY better at a range of paces. The Mach 6 is probably the closest competitor from my experience.
@@its_Matt_B_ SL2 is interesting because now they have a full length Lightstrike Pro layer and lighter than previous model. A comparison with SL2 and Mach 6 would be great.
I mentioned the others so if someone is looking for reviews of one of those popular shoes, that would have been an opportunity for them to discover some better alternatives in the price range. It could bring extra traffic to the channel as well.
@@TolunayOrkun I'll have to look into getting my hands on the SL2. I haven't had success with Adidas yet, so it's time to revisit that challenge!
@its_Matt_B_ the SL OG is golden and always very heavily discounted. Very underrated. Im still running in my 2nd pair. The SL2 should be great I think with a premium foam on top.
Would you pick this shoe over Adidas (Boston 12, Supernova Rise\Prima), Asics (Novablast 4 and Superblast) and why?
I have never run in the Novablast, but I would choose this over all the shoes you mentioned except for the Superblast. The Superblast is not really comparable as it's so much lighter and more expensive.
I'm not a fan of the Boston 12, although I do like that the upper is so thin and airy.
I would choose this primarily because of the ride, but also the fit. This just feels good on my foot and is versatile enough to use at a lot of paces.
@@its_Matt_B_ boston 12 from mid to heel is stiff and you will feel it when you reach a certain mileage, it affects your legs as well. The heel padding is thin and rigid hence it could cause blisters. But have you run tempo session or fartlek or even in track workouts this shoes? how was the ride when speeding up, anything you felt on foot?
@@its_Matt_B_ how about as well with Saucony Endorphin speed 4..
@@LukaMagic-hg3dk I have done all of the above in the Boston 12, and for those types of runs the Boston 12 is better (faster). I just think the Pegasus is a better daily trainer.
@@LukaMagic-hg3dk I don't think anyone shopping for the Endo Speed 4 would consider getting the Pegasus instead. The ES4 is a far more exciting shoe, but it's also more expensive!
More like a lifestyle shoe than a running one. Those thin forefoot is kinda seemed off
It's not that thin, at least not noticeably so. What distance did you notice the thinness? I've only ran a max of 13 miles at one time, so perhaps it starts to feel thin at long distances.
It's a pass for me. Wasn't impressed with previous Pegs and after running on other shoes with React mid soles wasn't too impressed. Only version of React I liked was on the Peg trail. The Pegasus shoe line feels like it has dipped into the entry level or casual runners. I like the Voomero 17 as a daily trainer better. There are much more better daily trainers out there for the same price point. I'll wait when these shoes show up in the factory outlet stores with a deep discount before considering even buying it.
Previous Pegs had React while the Peg 41 has ReactX. I agree React was just meh. This is an improvement. I also like the Vomero 17 better. I was actually surprised how good that shoe felt!
I had the Tailwind..
That's going back a bit. I just read that the Tailwind was the first shoe to use Nike's "air" technology!
This is the first glowing positive review of the Pegasus 41 I’ve seen so far. The rest have just been meh about it
It's a good shoe and worth the $140 price. I've also been reviewing, and so running in, a lot of heavier daily trainers recently, so it has been nice to have something that was more fun to run in.
Are you saying that Nike Pegasus 41 is better than the Nike Pegasus 40?
Yes, although that's only what I heard/read. I skipped getting the 40 after I read there were no meaningful changes over v39.
Which is better: Peg 41 or InfinityRn?
It depends on how you measure better. The InfinityRN 4 has a little more stack height and is heavier.
Personally I prefer the Pegasus over the InfinityRN; the Pegasus has a much wider range of running potential!
@@its_Matt_B_ thank you for replying. I will watch ur other vids. More power
Never Nike; but thanks for another comprehensive review, Matt. Cheers🏃
Thanks for watching! It's still good to know what we don't want! 🤝
@@its_Matt_B_ indeed
Once Puma started coming out with the Velocity Nitro series it pretty much replaced the Pegasus for me. I'd rock the Peg 41 casually but I'm Team Puma now ❤
Also nice review as always 👌
Puma has come such a long way and they're definitely able to replace what the Peg provides. There's a couple exciting Puma shoes coming soon!
@@JDeezle21 Cheers, mate!
I bet you’re UA-cam analytics didn’t tell you I went to a shop for some running shoes and bought the Nike Internationalist instead of the Pegasus 1s,I didn’t like the grey with blue swoosh!
Just because I didn't see it in the analytics doesn't mean it's not there. They get quite detailed!🤣
I had to look up the Internationalist. They still look like a good shoe today, albeit more of a fashion choice!
@@its_Matt_B_ yeh, I’ve been looking to replicate the blue with yellow swoosh version in a ‘Nike by you’ shoe, I nearly got the Peg 40s in identical livery, but would rather something a bit faster to validate my 1983 choice!
@@its_Matt_B_ to be honest Matt, and I like to think I always am! The current fashion version isn’t much different from the original Internationalist, but then again neither was the Peg 1! Amazing to think we got on fine those days with nearly full suede shoes!
@@mawilliams777 It is amazing to think about. The advances we've made don't seem commensurate to the amount spend on R&D for the new "tech."
@@its_Matt_B_ for ‘R&D tech’, read marketing!
Not a fan but thanks for the review. I know Peg line is popular in the US.
This is a good update for the Peg. They're popular because they're just so versatile!
Is it still firm or less firm?
Slightly softer than before.
@its_Matt_B_ ahh okay, thank you 🙂
10 mm drop ….And that weight… how can one choose this over rebel v4, novablast, saucony ride 17, brooks ghost max, adizero sl2, Boston 12, puma shoes… so many better options in the market. Feels like you are a bit biased towards Nike in this video
See my other reviews and you'll see I promote the positive aspects of any shoe I try. I guess I'm saying not to confuse bias with positivity. I was not paid for this review so have no reason for bias. Your examples are a good reminder that it does come down to perception because I was not a big fan of the Rebel v4, even if it was way lighter. If I could only run in one shoe, I would definitely take this over the Boston 12. The Ghost max would be a more difficult choice, as would some comparable Puma shoes.
Id choose the peg or virtually any Nike premium shoe over ANY of those
@@ATREU850 you clearly are biased and never tried anything else - and losing out in life
I think Matt’s response is valid… it’s true that he’s very positive (perhaps overly so) about almost every shoe that he reviews
