    Good video. I agree that I never quite understand why some UA-camrs seem to want a Pegasus to not be a Pegasus despite often claiming they used to like them. I think there is always the factor that not all shoes will suit all runners and I see a lot of comments now that some runners only appear to use plated "race" shoes so little surprise if gets comments like I tried a Pegasus it and it was dated/meh etc. For sure it is not trying to be a soft high stack plated "super" trainer for a lot more money. Your 41-40-39 Pegs seem to have the complete opposite weight progression to me in a UK 13/US 14. My 39 was "lightest" at 355g average, 40 371g and 41 marginally more at 375g. I recall EddBud saying his UK 11/UK 12 were lightest in 39 but 41 bit less than 40 so that's three different sets of shoes there! Sadl not been able to run in my Peg 41s yet as got a bit of a niggle but it is with certain amount of irony that we now feel a Pegasus is "low to the ground". Dig out a Nike Streak LT3 or LT4 to really know what means. Looking at my list I only had the Trail GORE-TEX Peg 36 but did do a lot in it. The 37 I found was too shallow in toe box and the 38 only picked up the Shield one later so it wasn't until the 39 that I did some "decent" miles in (259) and that largely continued in the 40 although I think I slightly preferred the 39. Comparing outsoles my 41 does indeed appear a little wider than the 39.

      It’s like my Puma Velocity Nitros that weigh 276g in 9.5 US. Go figure!

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  8 днів тому +1

      Ya, I don't know why the weights of our shoes are so off. I can only think Nike has some sort of scaling issue in the larger sizes that throw off the weights.
      I'm shocked the 37 didn't fit your foot. That was a long and narrow Peg with a Vaporfly Next% like upper fit.

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose 8 днів тому

      @@SagasuRunning I did actually get the narrow version of the Peg 37 as a custom Nike by You offering. They have now stopped offering narrow versions. The problem was a very shallow toebox which felt like was crushing my big toes despite being long enough. I also found that React a bit too firm. I was pleasantly surprised with the 39 and did more miles in that Peg than perhaps I had in any Peg since around 2000 when the Pegs of the time I thought were far more "racy" - well compared to whatever else I had tried for general training at the time. Also the narrow versions then again from Nike by You (maybe Nike Id back then) were actually narrow - well in a way that I liked.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  8 днів тому +1

      Ya… toe crushing toe boxes were a design feature of Nikes circa 2020. The VF1 had the absolute worst toe crusher toe box…. The AF1 as well.

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose 8 днів тому +1

      @@SagasuRunning yeah that was the one significant downside to the VF1 for me. Still managed to largely get over and did not bother me enough to relegate it from my favourite racer in modern times. Don't recall that issue in the AF1 but it was very wide for me in a UK 13 - classic scaling issue I think.

    This encapsulates exactly what I was thinking after my first run in them that I messaged you on Strava about. It's quite nice to have a shoe that hearkens back to a different time in running (i.e, 5-10 years ago) while still being a thoroughly modern shoe. While I love daily trainers like the Novablast 4, there is something nice about putting more effort into what your foot is doing and strengthening some of the muscles that high-rocker/max-cushion shoes tend to neglect. I personally like alternating between various shoes during a week (I rarely wear the same shoes twice in a 7-day stretch). The Peg 41 will likely be in my regular rotation.

    • @SagasuRunning

      @SagasuRunning  8 днів тому

      Initially I wanted the 41 to have the heel-to-toe Air Zoom unit like the 36, but I realized that it would have made the shoe too mushy and twisty. Cushlon foam is more structurally sound than ReactX and could control the torsional twist of the shoe better. Dropped into the 41 with ReactX it would have made the shoe way too twisty...

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  8 днів тому

      It was more the switch to React foam. In the Cushlon foam Pegs the Air Zoom unit was more present because the foam had much lower resiliency. Now in the 41, ReactX has a nice bounce to it that compliments the Air Zoom unit well.

    Hey Great video! You mentioned you ran in the Peg 41 and again the next day, do you often use shoes on consecutive days? I have a large enough collection that I can run in different shoes and have heard that it is good for the shoes to let the foam rest/reset after a run, so the closest I do is 2 days apart,but I am 6'3 215lbs so I don't want to risk it. What is your take on letting foam/shoes "rest" in between runs?

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  7 днів тому +1

      I make a point not too generally speaking, in order to give the foam(s) in a shoe full time to decompress. This is why a shoe rotation is important, one of many reasons. At best I may run in the same shoe every other day, even that is rare.
      However, when I'm testing a shoe I'll intentionally run them back to back days to see how they withstand that and how (if) the performance degrades. Since the Peg41 is a new shoe and a new foam I have alot more testing to do so I will likely run in this quite a bit more back to back...I'm trying to find if the shoe has a breaking point so I can report it on the channel.

    The nice thing with 40, 41 especially the heel base is wider.
    Pegasus turned a corner when they went to the slimmer podular zoom units by keeping the midfoot a nice torsional stiffness to keep the structure of the rest of midsole. Pegasus is the default because you realize how useful it is and for a larger runner like myself react supposed firmness is resilient not flashy but very much so if it keeps you running.
    *btw the award winning Clayton Young&Co UA-cam training series had Connor Mantz wearing the Pegasus 40 on that 25miler with the last 3miles at 4:46

      @SagasuRunning  8 днів тому +1

      Ya...at first I wished the 41 had the heel to toe Air Zoom unit like the 36...but after my second run in the 41s I realized the two separate air units are actually better as they can tune the torsion twist of the shoe more directly.
      I'm curious how you will get on with the 41s as a larger runner...
      Connor has been in a few interesting shoes in the workouts on Clayton's channel. Included OG Streakflys for the grass workout they did.
      The majority of the Japanese Nike Elites train in the Pegasus, nearly exclusively for easy running...opting for the Vomero 17 for recovery days mostly.

    I have almost 100 miles in this shoe, and I see what you mean. I didn’t run in the Pegasus 36, but I have ran in 37-40 and I agree, the 41 feels pretty different. The cushioning is a lot softer (especially in the heel) and just a little bouncy. It feels more like a mileage shoe than a versatile do-it-all. It honestly feels like a skinny, more flexible version of the Nimbus, if that makes any sense.
    I do wish they were a bit more responsive like the 37 were, but maybe that’s what the Pegasus Plus is going to be.
    I will say tho, I disagree about the toe box being wider. The shoes feel a bit more narrow, and I can kind of feel like my pinky toe doesn’t have enough wiggle room. Feels like I had more room in the 40.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  8 днів тому +1

      I still find this a do-it-all shoe, but I think there is a better option out there…
      Yes, that is why the Pegasus Plus will be. Nike is going back to that pairing.
      Really? I really find the 41 much more accommodating, and that is one thing I highly praised the 40 for.

    • @antic4312
      @antic4312 8 днів тому

      @@SagasuRunning Oh, it’s definitely a do-it-all still. I actually really like how smooth the ride is on it. It’s not slappy, it transitions from heel to toe really really well, and it feels relatively light under foot. It’s also very protective (especially in the midfoot and heel area). I also think the more I run in it and the more the foam breaks in, the more responsive it feels.
      But yeah, idk what it is with the fit. It’s definitely wide enough around the heel and midfoot. Maybe it just feels like it tapers in a bit more aggressively- kind of like how the Speed 4 tapers in a bit. Or maybe it’s because the 10 mm drop is really noticeable this time, whereas before it felt more like 8mm. It’s just putting a bit of pressure on my toes. Could just be me though.
      I’m gonna keep putting miles on it this week and see if that goes away. However, I just got an adidas shoe in that might actually give the peg a run for its money. 👀

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  8 днів тому +1

      I think the 10mm drop does put a little pressure on the toes. It was the same for the 40 for me but never caused any serious issues.
      The taper in the toebox isn’t as bad as the ES4, that shoe has a very strange fit…. Made worse by a sloppy upper.

    The 41 will make Nike way more money than the 40. The 41 is a much better looking shoe than the 40 and people who wear sneakers for casual use will gravitate towards these. I’m glad to hear it’s still good for running too.

      The 38 wasn't "bad", it just tried to step the 37 down too much in a very limited format. The Airbag was mushy and the upper as sloppy, especially coming from the 37.
      As for the 41...it's worth a try for sure. Even if it doesn't work for running it is a great looking shoe for casual wear.

    I'm all for variety in running but Pegasus was the training shoe for almost everyone. Now it's becoming a more niche shoe which is also heavily outclassed by other brands. Even the budget options like SL2 looking promising than Pegasus 41. Daily trainer lineup for Nike is underwhelming for a while and the trajectory doesnt look pretty.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  8 днів тому

      Id say it more like this. Trends swung in a different direction while the Peg remained (mostly) the same. Some of us who trained in Pegs prior to 2017...still train in Pegs frequently. The trend pendulum will swing back around someday, it always does.
      The move Nike made to tiers in their main running lines (Pegasus, Vomero, Structure) allow Nike to keep the standard models what they should be while allowing the Plus and Premium models to respond to trends. Until they announced that I would have agreed that it didn't look promising for Nike. However, I think they will get it sorted and be just fine.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  8 днів тому

      I've talked alot about why in my review of the IR4 and in comments in various videos. The Infinity Run series, 1-3, were staple volume trainers with a great midsole and decent amount of rocker that worked for a range of people. They weren't perfect but they were very solid running shoes. The IR4 was tuned to be a athleisure shoe and become a bridge product between Nike Wellness and Running. Thats fine...but that isn't an Infinity.
      The upper was poorly designed, the last used was a mess (having to size up half a size to get a TTS fit shoes sloppy deisng Q/A), the outsole was way too bottom heavy due to the insane amount of rubber and the ReactX was tuned way too soft so the shoe felt like a noodle for anyone other than heavy heel strikers.
      I do find the IR4 a great shoe for brand new runners, who are usually heel strikers, that want a shoe they can wear casually and jog in. It's nearly ideal for that use-case. Which was my recommendation for it on this channel.
