I had to grind through that damned AA, Hated that thing so much I started using the quad M2 .50cal halftrack instead cause i could ACTUALLy kill aircraft with that
I know, I literally hate the m42/m19. I try to get the hang of it but it is so bad. Especially with the terrible velocity and slow fire rate
yeah... I have not killed a single plane with the M42 and Im always surprised when I kill a plane with the M19... its only saving grace is that if you catch a tank's sides you can pen and kill them pretty easily.... heck I have more tank kills than air kills in the m19
what? I found the M19 and M42 suprisingly easy and reliable to use. If you want to know true pain play the ZSU 37 or Cruisader AA Mk1.
@@zafranorbian757 they're reliable if you can hit your targets and considering they see jets often good luck landing your shots, the zsu does suck badly though I'll agree on that one greatly

The M42 Duster was supposed to be deployed as a short range SPAA in compliment of the Hawk missile system in the early 60's. It was deployed in Vietnam with that purpose but due to the lack of plane to shooting down ended up being used to defend bases from being assaulted by VC and NVA. They were also used alongside other armor units and as support to infantry and received the nickname of Dragon's Fire because of its high rate of fire and red tracers.

U don't aim with this thing.. Just randomly spray n pray towards enemy's direction while shaking the gun.. Works better for me

Well I alwais just shot on the move one time I killer a tiger 1H just by driving towards it from behind...and then a Russian destroyer got me.
Wonder if adding proximity fused shells would help it as well as other anti air's in similar bad states. At last then you had an easier time aiming.

I use this anti air ALOT, its my favorite one to play, it is indeed very hard to learn but it can be extremely deadly after a lot of practice, also having it aced makes a massive difference.
It's really not that bad, I'm surprised with all the negatives here. Not the best, but not trash

ZUT-37 was never in any battle
Due to land-lease of american m17 and because of the fact that ZUT-37 needed magazine loading (like on 92-K) and not just small clips
Also turret rotation was very slow

@@Nick-tm2sw The AMX 40 DCA is also a great anti-tank, I managed to massarce a group of 5 German tanks. Got behind them, shoot all their turrets killing crews and damaging cannon barrel, and then finish them off.

I think you misspelt "Crusader AA Mk I" as "M42"
That, in my opinion, is the worst SPAA. Terrible ammo count, all the ammo in the turret and piss poor RoF. Whenever I took that thing out, I only took the AP belt and hunted other tanks because of how bad it is a hitting aircraft. At least the M42 gets 2 guns and a good amount of ammo.
Nah, the Crusader has several advantages over the M42: 1) smaller size, 2) better turret protection (the amount of times I've been killed by 7mm coaxial guns is ridiculous), 3) it's somewhat more mobile when going forward and turning, 4) it actually has barrel depression, and 5), it's 4.7 rather than 6.7, so it has a better chance of surviving and getting tank kills

The M19 and M42 both easily get ammo racked by any plane that sneezes in their general direction- I've rarely had that issue with the Crusader (doesn't hurt that the turret is much smaller on the Crusader, so it's less likely that a plane will deal significant damage in a single pass)
I enjoy using the M42, those adorable Panthers have such delicious sides.

8:10 - 8:17 The M42's engine doors opened when damage taken. I wonder if other vehicles do the same? I've witnessed the M113A1 TOW from Italy does that with the rear door and you can see the crew inside

Phly the M42 And M19 have the same turret traverse! The only reason for the TT diference in your video is the crewtraining. And by the by the Kugelblitz has a slower TT than these two and sits curently at 7.0, where jets are getting more and more prevalent. Of course it has other stuff going for it, but I had to bring that up.

As of March 2021 the M42 is at BR 6.0. The M19 is still at 5.0. Next AA gun on the American tree beyond the M42 is the M163 Vulcan at 8.0. Both in the case of the M42 and the M163, historically they were always better at mowing the lawn of soft ground targets than as a AA platform.

The reason the m19 has better traverse is probably because you have expert crew on it but basic for m42. 5 extra levels to targeting gives a significant bonus to traverse

i feel like the m42 could get that concept one, they took a radar like from the m163 and slapped it on as a test, it would probably make it ever so slightly better
Btw phly you did this with the german 37mm too, why don't you take the AP and HE belts separately so you can switch to the correct choice with the 0.5 second switch time? You can also switch shells to clear a jammed gun instantly so you never have to stop firing.

I had a Bf 109 G2trop tank two HE shells to the face from this thing the other day, all it damaged was the oil cooler. American SPAA is pain until 8.0
The ostwind 2 has double the fire rate, and the upgraded shells have more HE filler and a higher muzzle velocity.

It's debatable, try the Swedish Tier 2 anti-air. It's good half of the time when you have a plane charging towards you, it's OK with being a nuisance for light tanks but you're gonna have to put an agonizing 10 rounds through one hole to kill anyone.
I actually got to see a M42 at Charleston SC It's a very odd but nice looking Anti Air.
i love the m42 even though the bullet velocity is ass, but when cas with a cannon is pointing straight towards me i could js spray and it will hit mostly 80% (i use explosive ammo so it justs blows the plane up in one shot and it only takes one bullet to kill a plane)
When ever I go into planes in tank battles I search for these and M19's the blow up so easily.

Hey, phly out the Me-410B6/R3. It is an EXCELLENT ground pounder with those Mk103 and their 95mm penetration, and it is maneuverable enough to dogfight decently! Plus it doesn't lock up in a dive!
