6. The Pinhoti Trail - Cave Springs to Summerville

- In this video, I leave the historic town of Cave Springs, GA heading for Summerville. Along the way I “rejoice” over the road walks, get back in the woods, walk a ridge line, endure a wind storm and get picked up by a Deputy Sheriff. 😳 I hope you enjoy this video and that you'll continue with me on this epic journey of the Pinhoti Trail.

I work for a local PD so am not surprised by the "helpful" citizen that called in about a "trafficker"...LOL..we get that all the time as if everyone walking down the street was up to no good (some are, most aren't!). We aren't in an area near a hiking trail but you would think citizens up in that area would be used to seeing hikers traversing the Pinhoti?!.. Glad everything worked out for you and they were able to give you a ride. I enjoy your vlogs and hope you enjoy the rest of your hike..
Thanks. The Officer told me to call the non-emergency 911 number to get a ride back to the trail head. If only he would have taken me back with the lights flashing and the siren going… 🤔
Wind in the woods is scary; we often have trees come down. Take care of that leg! I enjoy your videos very much.

What a guy! I noticed you use two poles. I never can get used to having two things in my hands when I'm walking therefore I only carry one walking stick I've had this walking stick for around 15 years. Here lately I haven't walked very much at all and I'm getting so out of shape it's pathetic. You need to understand that I've had two back operations and two neck operations and sometimes it's hard to even get up out of my chair but I have to keep moving or I'll stove up. At any rate you do good young man so keep up the good work maybe I'll see you on the trail one day you never know. Keep On Truckin, or in your case walking

Lovely vid again Rev. That much wind in a forest can be a hazard with falling trees and branches. Glad to see it was a non issue but I never expected to see the bamboo, that was a surprise. Rob ;)

Glad you got a ride. My last ride was from Park Rangers on the Blue Ridge Parkway. They were very nice as well. Hope that hamstring heals quickly.

That was a funny story at the end. So if you're white haired, with a backpack and hiking poles you're a dealer/trafficker? Make it make sense. Someone has a vivid imagination and/or no clue what a hiker looks like. Probably both. 🤦🏼♀️ Still a beautiful hike, minus the road walks required. Hope those are eventually rerouted into the woods or fields. Happy trekking! 🥾

that' a nice example of law enforcement there to serve and protect. What if there were a network of "men (and ladies) of the cloth" for hikers needing assistance? Happy trails!

@@TheHikingRev You know, a lot of people that hike the Pinhoti, say that…. We are just now coming into our own as a hiking community. While the forerunners got it going, the trail had kinda been on autopilot in a sense. But there is more of a concerted effort by individuals to take what was developed by those forerunners to the next level with #PinhotiForever , The Pinhoti Outdoor Experience, Pinhoti-Fest, etc.

It is NEVER a good sign when a Sheriff’s car pulls up behind you while walking down a road! But…you must truly be living right! A ride is a ride, right? Did you sit in the back, or did he let you sit up front? Hope the right hamstring is better. There’s a climb at John’s Mountain till you get Dalton, and guess what…..more road walking. Good resupply at Dollar Tree behind Cracker Barrel, and also a Kroger about half way down Walnut Ave.

Sorry about your injury but glad you’re better. Pretty comfy section staying at the Inn and taking some zero days. I’ve seen some pretty rough looking thru hikers hitching for a ride along the PCT but how someone came up with that story about you is mind boggling- glad the sheriff gave you a ride. Found a tick on Emory today (no clue which trail he got it from). Mosquitoes are active now too… ugh. Happy Memorial Day weekend! Stay safe! Excellent Vid.

Maybe somebody driving in the opposite direction felt that you simply needed a ride into town. And calling the Sherriff's Office with a bogus story was meant to accomplish exactly that.

Hitchhiking is one of those rare situations in which women tend to have more "privilege" than men; I have never had difficulty getting a hitch. Nor been described as a drug dealer! You have a very small pack, which makes you look even less like a typical backpacker. The one signifier I would note is the trekking pole - but you usually have it stowed I think? Oh well, there's always a solution in the end!
