On this day in 1982 {January 23rd} the Go-Go's performed "We Got The Beat" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand' One week later on January 30th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #2 {for 3 weeks} and spent 19 weeks on the Top 100 It reached #3 on the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart and #29 on the Australian ARIA Singles chart The three weeks it was at #2; the #1 record was "I Love Rock and Roll" by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts R.I.P. Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012}
Great drummer, most people who cover it cheat and play the floor tom but to hold that beat on the bass drum for that long with perfect timing and with one pedal is a workout no matter how long you been doing it.
ROFL! Well, ever try to drum? You have to COUNT keep constant time, not speed up, and so forth. This example is not her best drumming because it is so short on FILL and technique.
it's a miracle they're all still alive and can get along enough to do a show. Valentine was fired due to money issues. I'm not sure how each band member got paid over the years. Some of them wrote songs, others didn't. Face it four young women and their hormones plus drugs will have a tough time going down a smooth road for long. It is almost inevitable they will fight and break up, regroup and do it again.
I read that a couple of them sued for not getting their due (money) ... so ... that's f'd up .... which shows a lot of music groups, rock, r&b, etc. have gotten ripped off
Congratulations to the Go-Gos they are now inducted into the Rock n'Roll hall of fame . Expect them to perform their classic anthem at their induction. They definitely got the beat
Personally, I think Kathy Valentine is the one who brought them from being a punk band into the real musicianship they turned into. It's amazing that they were stupid enough to fire her.
money was a big issue at the end--Kathy got booted for weird reasons--it's a miracle they lasted as long as they did--they will be remembered for a long time
They sounded great in this concert, was really disappointed with Belinda though.Back in the 80's, she would do her Go-Go dance routine she was famous for, but now all she does is just walk around. Is it just me or does Kathy Valentine get better looking with age? She looks really hot!! Her and Jane look like they were having a great time on stage dancing around.
This song was one of their classic hits that made them famous, so hell yes they're going to sing it at every concert they have. It wouldn't be a Go Go's concert if they didn't sing" We Got The Beat". It however is a shame that they recently kicked Kathy Valentine out of the band. I hope what ever the reason, that they can work things out between them and let her back in the band. The new bass player is good, but she's no Kathy Valentine.
Mmmm damn Jane Wiedlin is still hot! Whoo! Belinda still got the voice. Kathy still plays that bass like it was 1981 again. Charlotte still can rock that axe at lead. And of course, Gina still got the beat!
@astrolifter Well, yeah, I do, sorta, just because we grow up doesn't mean we have to stop having fun! They had a chance to reunite and relive some glory days; I just thought they would have enjoyed it more. Smile, you only live once. :-)
Uhm....chill dude/dudette...It's one of their biggest hits....of course they are gonna sing it....ALL bands do that...You want them to sing that God awful song Mercenary?
You can tell that they sang this song ONCE TOO OFTEN!!! Coming up next .. The Go-Go's sing "We Got the Beat" in the Men's Room at Grand Central Station. Followed by The Go Go's singing "We Got the Beat" over the grave of Hellen Keller. Instead of "the beat" when are you broads gonna get another song???
"Thank you for coming out tonight, and thank you for not coming out tonight for those who dont want to" I Finally get what she ment by that......
totally awesome. gogo's number one all time female band.
The GO GOs We got the beat . I love this song .Brings me back to my youth . Had a lot of good times back then .
this band is awesome live!!!!

The drummer in this band, Gina Schock, always looks like she's concentrating so much that smoke should be coming from her ears.
not the easiest jam to play, but I agree
She gets into it

She's a metronome
I was 14 when this song came out. Real music.
Love, Love and Love the Go Go's
Go Go's got the beat and I love this band. Best band ever. I can listen to this song every day and that is why I have it on my playlist.
Go Go's the all girl band that rocked the 80s and are still rocking in 2019
first song on..fast times..remember it like yesterday
Kathy looks amazing with her hair grown out and good god that outfit! Too bad they have her amazing bass skills turned way down on her amps!!!
What a show!!!
Best version ever! Period!!!
it's a miracle they're all still alive and can get along enough to do a show.

Kathy Valentine looks tremendous and I enjoy her bass playing in this video very much
Love the bassist
they can rock, Kathy Valentine came from Austin, TX--she went back there--hope she isn't bitter--she was very good for the band
She's playing with the Bluebonnets. Blues-Rock I think.
This needs to be in hd!
Love chicks who can rock
20 years ago today

tryithere and after reading her writings, I think that she is the most clever one out of the whole group. its their loss anyway.
money was a big issue at the end--Kathy got booted for weird reasons--it's a miracle they lasted as long as they did--they will be remembered for a long time
and now they asked her to come back - perhaps they realized how integral she really was
She is back with the band now and the new single Club Zero may be their best song ever. The Go Go's rock!
I think of Fast Times at Ridgemont High!
The rest of the group has it going on - especially the bassist - Kathy Valentine. She plays great and is really into the music.
Whoa....Jane Wiedlin played Joan of Arc in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. I didn't know that till a few minutes ago. And she's still smokin' hot
Amen

Brenda has the cheekbones and the lips that make eternal beauty.

She is back and there is a new single called Club Zero which just might be their best song ever.

First song learn to play drums to. Wild .

They were huge in Japan, since female rockers were a true novelty act over there.
Fast Times

Belinda always looks as if she wishes she was anywhere but here! Never smiles.
Gina Schock. Wow.
Rock Drummer Supreme.....
man, like did they know they were suppose to be having fun?? Everyone was like doing their own deal...sooooo miss the old Go Go's
holy shit the bassist is HOT :-D
I'm in love with that bass chick #milf #cougar
She was a late bloomer...it took 15 years or so before people realized how hot she was
1134scotty true !
She was also the youngest. 1-6 years younger than the others.
@astrolifter Well, yeah, I do, sorta, just because we grow up doesn't mean we have to stop having fun! They had a chance to reunite and relive some glory days; I just thought they would have enjoyed it more. Smile, you only live once. :-)
WE GOT THE MEAT, WE GOT THE MEAT! (:>)
I Really wanna tag Belinda Carlisle!
I've said it before, I'll say it again, I would drag me testis thru a 1000 feet of broken glass to be at one of their coke parties in the 80's...lol
Goddamnit fuck Kathy is one sexy bass player! Too bad they kicked her outta the band..
@MIORIGAMI False. That is the other girls singing.
The band member with the red guitar what is her name? She was so awesome in this video.
It's actually a bass, and her name is Kathy Valentine, and she is always awesome.
Jealous of anyone who was there!
@RobertMorrison70 I think its their best performance, plus they aren't all strung out on drugs.
@MIORIGAMI I believe in reincarnation, so I would say that we have many lives..peace out!
Uhm....chill dude/dudette...It's one of their biggest hits....of course they are gonna sing it....ALL bands do that...You want them to sing that God awful song Mercenary?

ok, at 2:07...check out Belinda...her voice is singing, but she isn't...lol! I just caught it, thought I'd share.
MIORIGAMI she's not. It them singing back ground vocals
I totally agree - I am a fan but gawd she is not working it at all :( J.Weilden is....
such a good song but the singer doesn't look to pleased to be there...
Good band... but Boring lead singer....
