Still brings tears to my eyes...to this day. I remember when Princess Grace died. Dedicating this aria to her was an ultimate tribute. Price made sure to be meticulously at her best during this performance. Thank you Onegin65 for reposting. Lots of people were asking about it. 🥰
Great legato throughout. The last high A flat is marked dolcissimo with muted strings. Exquisite. Leontyne Price, whom many critics regard as having been born to sing Verdi, said the role of Desdemona was too “bionda” (blonde) for her voice, but “I’d love to sing Desdemona on stage. Of course, the production would have to be handled very carefully by a great director.” Alas, she never sang the role. Almost everyone who has ever heard Leontyne Price, whether artist or critic, has talked about the intoxication, the blissful rapture, into which they have been brought by the sound of this voice. Once heard, the simultaneously smoky and luminous, dark and sensuously tender sound is so quickli is not forgotten. I heard her in the theatre several times. The most beautiful soprano voice I have ever heard.
It would’ve been wonderful for Price to record the entire role with McCracken or Vickers, however she brings this role to life, and leaves her imprint on this scene with Maestro Mehta. Brava!!
Verdi, Otello. Ave Maria.

Miss Price voice always had air leak, it was not a pure voice and the higher she went the narrower and smaller the voice became
@MorenoCassals70 The air leak is in your brain. Menso.
Heartbreaking beauty, shot through with fragility and pathos. Sublime! Brava La Price!
There is much beauty in this performance, especially during the Ave Maria. Stunning.
My eyes are full of tears. She aimed right at my soul. Ravishingly beautiful rendition despite the technical quality.
So amazing it’s beyond
Magnifique voix!
Outstanding!
