Wait, you have never reacted to exo before??? In my mind you did? Maybe because exo is so popular that I just automatically assumed that you've reacted to them hahah. Some of the best singers of the entire kpop industry are in exo!! Please react to Miracles in December by exo! That's honestly the best christmas kpop song ever in my opinion. Their live performance of miracle in december (SBS 2018) is just perfection.. Exo's live performance are the b e s t. Hyped for this! I really recommend their acoustic medley of their concert in Japan!! Kyungsoo (D.O) is my bias, he wasn't in the obsession mv because he's currently serving in the army. He's almost done though. I'm so excited for Kyungsoo's solo stuff, new movie and his comeback with exo!! Tempo is honestly also a must to react to, that song is just on another level.
Exo used to have 12 members split into 2 sub units: Exo M with 6 members and Exo K with 6 members. During the overdose promos in 2014, Kris from Exo M left the group. Later that year, Luhan from Exo M talked it out with the group and decided to leave too. 2015 came around and during the Call Me Baby promos, Tao from Exo M took leave for "health reasons" and then later confirmed that he was leaving the group too. A whole bunch of drama ensued with Kris and Tao filing lawsuits and ever since then Exo has promoted as a whole with 9 members. Lay, the 4th original chinese member, is inactive with comebacks because of weird tensions between korea and china as well as his bigger prominence in china compared to other chinese kpop idols (he's a youth ambassador and solo artist over there so promoting in both countries is apparently not a good move for some reason idk). Because of this, you'll usually only see 8 members max in MVs but he is still technically part of the group and fully supports the rest of the boys.
EXO is legendary because every comeback since "Growl" has basically shook the industry lol

In regards to the situation with the ex members: In 2014, around the time of the overdose promotions, kris wu , wu yifan filed a lawsuit against sm, in regards to his physical health and freedom and treatment, after which he left exo - this was probably the biggest shock, as he had not told anyone that he was doing this. particularly, one of the other ex member, tao, took it quite badly at the time. only a few months later, luhan also filed, stating the very unfair treatment and mistreatment of the chinese members in comparison. Both their lawsuits are fully cleared up as far as i’m aware, i think they are technically still under contract with sm until 2022, but no longer are part of their artist lineup. In 2015, Tao, huang zitao also filed - originally when kris left, he reacted quite strongly, so him doing this got him quite a lot of antis, but the thing is, he was actually very reluctant to file the lawsuit - at the time of the call me baby promotions, he was on a lot of variety shows, despite his poor health at the time, and had quite a bad injury. finally, his dad convinced him to file, and i think a lot of the aspects of the lawsuit was cleared up by 2017/18. At the start, we didn’t hear them having a lot of contact, but during the 2019/2020 new years gala, kris and tao were very close and shown hugging, and on produce camp 2020, luhan and tao were mentors, whilst kris was a guest mentor, and they talked a little about their experiences together as trainees. During this time, the three of them actualky had a few collabs:

Currently, lay, zhang yixing, is often not present in promotions, due to china and korean political tensions, as lay is a very influential celebrity in china, but recently it has relaxed a little, so we exo-ls can always hope. lay has always been very insistent on the fact that exo is OT9, and that the nine of the current members will always be very close brothers
Fun fact: Kokobop was a song that Red Velvet was going to promote, but SM thought it would suit EXO better.

yayyyyyy, I’m so glad you’re finally reacting to exo! i will admit, i have been waiting on this for a while.
I think the main thing to note with them is their concept and the theories behind the mv’s because it is such a big part of their group. There are lots of different theories pertaining to it, depending on the angle you look at the videos at - the main thing is that all, all of the mvs, the teaser, they matter a lot to the storyline (so much that exo even has separate twitter accounts for when the pathcode teasers were released, and for the obsession album to fit with the concept) The main idea is that exo are aliens from the planet, exoplanet, and they each have different powers - for exo-k, suho (kim junmyeon) has water powers, baekhyun has light powers, chanyeol has fire powers, kai has teleportation, d.o. (kyungsoo) has ‘the power of force’, sehun has the power of wind, in exo m, lay(zhang yixing) has the power of healing, chen (kim jongdae) has lightning, xiumin (kim minseok) has frost, and the exmembers, luhan, kris and tao have the powers telekinesis, flight and time manipulation respectively. they are fighting against an organisation called ‘the red force’ which are trying to capture them, which appear to be trying to capture them. This is the main basis of the theory, although it can vary from music video to music video

for exo, for every single title track no matter how good it is initially, i like it 10x more at least after seeing the live performance. their main attribute is live vocals, you gotta hear them before forming your opinion on their songs, at least in my experience :)
I think this is an SM thing that some songs you have to listen to it more than once so it will grow in you.
I had the same opinion I liked call me baby the most out of the three but I'm sure you will like their other songs like lotto / love me right / monster also their best ballad like miracle in december " christmas song " and baby don't cry are the best songs to show their vocals.

I am happy you actually watched the EXO-M version of "Overdose" this time. See what you would have missed out on if you hadn't? And now you understand why we say even though they may seem like they are similar MVs, there are distinct differences between the Korean and Mandarin versions that are important to EXO's storyline.
As far as the story in "Overdose," what you need to keep in mind with everything you watch that has to do with EXO is that EVERYTHING they are involved in is connected and everything they do is designed to tell a little more of EXO's story.
"Overdose" is one of the last MVs where all 12 members are part of the song and MV. (Kris left the group right after this MV was released and Luhan will leave within the next 6 months.) How EXO worked back when they were split up into the two groups (EXO-K Korean and EXO-M Mandarin Chinese) was that all the members were in both MVs, but the K members were featured more prominently in the K version of the song and the M members were featured in the M version As you saw, in the Mandarin version the M members sing the main parts of the song, and if you watch the Korean version you will see that the EXO-K members take over the main parts in the song and MV. So, even when the MVs look the same, they will always be slightly different because the members are assigned different parts in each MV.
For example, in the Mandarin version Kris, Xiumin and Tao are the rappers because they are EXO-M's rappers. However, in the the Korean version, because it's the EXO-K MV, the EXO-K rappers (Chanyeol and Sehun) are the ones that are part of the rap section. Tao is also the martial artist of the group, so he is the one that does the flips and stunts in EXO's routines.
Also something to note, you see Luhanin the beginning and end in the Mandarin version because he is the center and visual of EXO-M, and Kai fills that same role in the Korean version because he is the center and visual of EXO-K. Plus, Kai and Luhan were each others' power counterparts as well. So this establishes the connections between EXO-K and EXO-M. Kai and Luhan were supposed to have a bond that connected the two groups and made them one as part of EXO's storyline.
In the "Overdose" MV what you saw is that the members have been trapped in a maze by the Red Force and they are trying to use their superpowers to escape the maze. For example, in the Korean version you see Chen throw a beam of light which is an example of them using their powers. Chen has the power to control lightning so he tossed a lightning bolt to Lay who has the power of healing. Lay is the only one who could have caught that light beam without being injured because he can heal himself.
In the beginning when you see the EXO-M members making that picture while standing on each other, they are forming their hexagon symbol which is EXO's official symbol. (In the K version, you may have noticed it's different members.) The different sets you see, are thought to be different rooms within the maze or maybe alternate realities or time periods created by the Red Force to lure the EXO members to them.
So, the story in the MV is pretty much the members trying to summon their powers to try and escape from the maze.The box that D.O. had at the beginning of the MV was full of dirt. D.O.'s superpower is the power of earth or dirt and it gives him strength, so he was using the sand to build his strength back up. The other members were also trying to use their powers of teleportation, fire, light, etc. And at the end of the MV we discover that the maze has only one way in and no way out. Which I think is meant to represent and mirror the fact that they are saying they are trapped by love and once you are in there is no way out. The maze was also EXO's logo for this album and it is shaped like EXO's hexagon symbol.
Although, in the song they're not overdosing on anything except love. As the English lines in the song say: "So bad, no one can stop her ... her love, her love (is) fantasy ... Oh she wants me, Oh she's got me ... Oh she hurts me ... someone call the doctor ... (her love makes me) overdose ... too much of your love makes me overdose ... too much overdose ... You're in my heart ... with you I can't stop", etc. This song is kind of a love song about how powerful love can be that it feels like no matter how much you try to resist it you keep getting pulled back in like a drug.
However, for the storyline in the MV there might be a little more at play than just being drugged by love. Some theories say that the story in "Overdose" is connected to the story in "Lucky One." As you see in "Overdose," the members get trapped in a maze and they can't find their way out. The red light represents the Red Force who have trapped them in the maze. It is thought that the maze causes the members to get disoriented and sort of become incapacitated so they are unable to defend themselves. The maze dulls their senses and makes it so they lose the ability to use their powers at full strength, etc.The theory speculates that sometime after the end of the "Overdose" MV EXO gets captured or transferred from the maze and brought to the government facility by the Red Force and that is why we see them in a hospital-like setting in "Lucky One." In the story in the "Lucky One" MV the members are drugged and they are being experimented on to discover what makes them so special. In "Lucky One" the members use their powers to break free from the facility. And this is where some theories connect the story in their "Lucky One" MV to the story in "Ko Ko Bop."
As you can see all of the stories in EXO's MVs are connected. We just have to pay close attention to every detail and put the pieces together.

First time I heard ko ko bop.....i didn't like it....then when I listened to the album I was like: OMG THIS SONG IS AMAZING!!!! I think I was distracted by the mv the first time XD
I remember that when SM said that they will debut a new group, rumors also come out immediately.
They said that some of the traines were at a Shinee concert but they were disrespectful by playing on the ds and said that they were better.
At that time there weren't even a list of which trainees will be in EXO. Glad that people didn't take those rumours seriously. But then again, that was in 2010-2011. There was no cancel culture.

In "Call Me Baby" you will see there are 10 members.This MV came out in 2015 and it was the first MV after Kris and Luhan left -- Kris left right after "Overdose" came out and Luhan left about 6 months later in 2014. Tao is still there. This was the last MV were we see Tao. Tao (The tall, blond with the orange shoes) left the group shortly after "Call Me Baby."
You should also check out the EXO-M Mandarin Chinese version of "Call Me Baby." (You will be able to see Tao instead of Kai in the beginning of the Mandarin version, among other things. :D) If you watch the two versions side by side, you will see that the members that are featured in each part are different and even in the dance sections where you think "it's the same" there are different members doing different parts. Their MVs may look similar, but that's only because they filmed the MV twice and deliberately made the scenes look the same. Also if you really pay attention, the scenes may look the same, but the members who sing the parts are different depending on the version that you watch.
For example, in the Mandarin version you will see the EXO-M members featured more (Lay, Xiumin, Chen and Tao) and they sing the main parts, and in the Korean version the EXO-K members (D.O., Baekhyun, Chanyeol, Sehun, Suho and Kai) sing those same parts. In the Mandarin version a lot of the main parts were sung by Lay, but in the Korean version D.O sings those parts, and in the Mandarin version the rap was done by Tao and Xiumin, where in the Korean version it's Chanyeol and Sehun, etc.
Fun fact: Leading up to the release of the "Call Me Baby" MV, there were 10 Pathcode teasers that were released over several weeks. There was a short teaser video for each of the members, and combined with clues from an SM Entertainment twitter account, we had to piece together the story and solve the mystery to reveal the release date and title of EXO's new song, which ended up being "Call Me Baby." If you notice, there are 10 letters in the title "Call Me Baby" so there was one letter per EXO member. If you want to watch their Pathcode teasers just search SM's UA-cam channel. They are all there. The stories in the teasers also connect to EXO's larger storyline as well, and it is thought that they not only show clues to "Call Me Baby," but they also reveal more clues to EXO's storyline and tell a little more of EXO's story. The Pathcodes are super interesting and very mysterious, just like EXO.

as a chen and exo-m stan, super happy you watched the exo-m version of overdose (big thanks to your patreon). people usually watch exo-k versions which is fine but then youre missing out on 6 whole other members usually (however SM decided to make the MVs for the k and m versions the same essentially so its almost pointless for someone to react to both lol)
Omg yes they were one of the first groups I got into, I adore them so much, vocal legends!! These are just the tip of the iceberg like Tempo exists being one of the best songs to ever exist, EXO are legendary and I can't wait for you to get to know them more and listen to their masterpiece of a discography. I love their sub units, duets and solos like they never fail. Also you might get confused as exo used to have 12 members but 3 left due to mistreatment etc. And now are a 9 member group however Lay is chinese so he hasn't promoted with them in a long time because off issues with SK and then some members left for the military so you might see a varied amounts of members which might be a bit confusing. Baek's red mullet is iconic 😍 Call me maybe is my favourite out of this bunch, they're amazing tbh.

Tbh when I first heard kokobop I didn't necessarily like it even though it has a reggae beat and I am Jamaican. 😂 However, that was when it just came out...now it's quite literally a 'bop'. My favorite Exo songs of all time are: Call me Baby, Love me Right, Mama and The Eve.

I dont mind having EXO Mvs watched npot in chronological order, but the main reason why we usually prefer that way is due to the progression and development they show rather than because of the story (at least for me). This is not to say you should, it´s just a preference, as it shows their growth.
