If I remember correctly 'Wolf' was their first title track that they did as OT12. And the styling.... we don't talk about it.... (I feel every SM group has at least one comeback where the styling ist just.... tragic ^^;;;)
The live Remix-version of Wolf is really good!
Growl was THE song for Exo. It was a massive hit in Korea and made them really popular :)
And the MV was filmed in one-shot. Also Kai drops his cap at one point. ^^

For the title tracks where there was an EXO-K and EXO-M version, the vocals were never purely done by one unit, and the MVs were mixed - it was just biased towards the respective unit (i.e. D.O. and Baekhyun's parts in the Kor. version were done by Chen and Luhan on the Man. ver)
Also the units were "abolished" to leave a single group in 2015 just before Tao left, for the Call Me Baby comeback with the EXODUS album - but for the repackage version of that album (Love Me Right) Tao had also left, so technically LMR is the first comeback where EXO was ot9 (final lineup)

I think , because "Mama" is quite story oriented and they needed to show every members power that's why EXO-K , EXO-M were separated (although they show them in MV for a moment). BUT if we see WOLF, GROWL,OVERDOES in thoes MVs they all were together ,it's just in korean versions, K members got more line and screen time and in chinese versions, M members got line and screen time.AT that time they were very active in china. So whenever they performed in china all of them performed in chinese version. But for B-sides they were divided by K and M.

The easiest way to understand the EXO-K/EXO-M split is to know that the point was to allow the songs to be promoted at the same time in both Korea and China. Music videos don't need to be so strict with the divide since they have all the members. They also have a version of each of these songs that can be preformed with all 12 members. Who sings what depended on if it was in Korean or Chinese (with each having more lines covered by that unit). My favorite trick from EXO is when they preform a song in both (switching every other verse). I recommend watching MAMA 2012 (even just on your own) where they preformed their debut song MAMA this way.

  • @goobobbyx8648

The original concept of EXO was to have the subunits during the mini albums and have OT12 comebacks for full length ones. That is why MAMA and Overdose have a predominant subunit line-up for the Korean and Chinese comebacks (and purely the subunit member vocals only for the album b-sides). Wolf was their first OT12 comeback (and hence first full-length album), and then it was followed by the repackage Growl. Obviously they still did KR and CH versions for the OT12 songs, but they sang as a whole group for those versions. As more EXO-M members left the group, they eventually abolished this structure and had only full length albums with the complete line up every time.

One theory is that "Love Me Right" is showing the members in all different dimensions or time periods throughout history. As aliens from Planet EXO, it is thought that the members of EXO are able to travel throughout history and time and space in their quest to reunite as a group and to find the Tree of Life. So, each scene you see is thought to be in a different location or time period -- or possibly, part of a dream-like existence, created by the Red Force to trap the members within the maze, like we see in their "Overdose" MV. (So if EXO are still trapped in the maze, some of the scenes are also thought to be them fighting to break free from the fog that the Red Force has them in and escape, etc.)
Some say "Love Me Right" establishes how EXO are traveling through history looking for the Red Force and trying to fix all the problems that the Red Force has caused, while they search for the Tree of Life. That is why we see them in so many different scenes in the MV and why each scene looks like it is from a different time period.
As you know, everything EXO does is connected to their concept and storyline and it's all about the fact that they are fighting the Red Force and searching for the Tree of Life. And because EXO are trying to undo everything and stop the Red Force from corrupting humanity, the Red Force is always standing in EXO's way, trying to stop them from accomplishing their tasks and prevent them from reuniting the two halves of the Tree of LIfe in order to prevent peace from being restored in the world.
You see the red light because, as with everything EXO does, red represents the Red Force. So some theories are that the scenes with the red light are scenes where the Red Force has control, and the scenes where you see the blue light are when EXO has the upperhand. And the scenes where you see the purple colors are times when the line is blurred and EXO and the Red Force are crossing paths -- red and blue make purple.
Also since we now have more information about X-EXO, which are EXO's alter ego clones, who we were introduced to in EXO's MV, "Obsession," some new theories are starting to suggest that maybe the red scenes are actually the X-EXO clones and the blue scenes are the EXO members.
And, although the smoke looks pink, I think we are supposed to recognize it as red smoke, which is another indication that whatever is causing the smoke has something to do with the Red Force. Some theories even think that scene might be connected to EXO's "Lucky One" MV storyline. In "Lucky One" we see the Red Force experimenting on EXO and, in the EXO-M version, Xiumin is trapped in a box filled with smoke or fog and in "Love Me Right" we see Xiumin doing some sort of experiment in the room with the red smoke.
At one point you see Xiumin mixing some sort of purple liquid and, although I am not sure what he is making or why, some theories speculate that that potion is created from flowers. And flowers are a central theme in almost all of EXO's MVs. You see Xiumin mixing a similar liquid with flowers in EXO-CBX's "Blooming Day." MV. And because this liquid is purple, I think it could potentially be some sort of potion that will help the EXO members break the spell the Red Force has over them or it will help to identify who are the real EXO members and who are the evil X-EXO alter ego clones in disguise, etc.
The smashed TV is also thought to be connected to EXO's "Coming Over" MV storyline. In "Coming Over" you see EXO smashing TVs, mirrors, and surveillance cameras, in what is thought to be an attempt at stopping and preventing the Red Force from controlling humanity. And in EXO-CBX's MV for "Hey Mama" you will see that the CBX members have now infiltrated a TV news studio and they are working to stop the Red Force from controlling the news anchors and corrupting society by controlling the flow of news, etc.
Some have pointed out that the smashed TVs kind of look like running water. Water is Suho's superpower and fire is Chanyeol's power. And you see Suho and Chanyeol in that scene. So, Suho and Chanyeol are most likely involved with whatever is happening in this scene.
The scene where you see Baekhyun laying on the train tracks could possibly be connected to the storyline in EXO-CBX's "Horololo" MV where we see Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin searching the train tracks for clues. And the scene where you see Xiumin laying on the ground, almost as if he is passed out, in the middle of the forest looks as though it is connected to Suho's "Call Me Baby" pathcode teaser video storyline, as well as the scenes with Suho in the forest in EXO's "For Life" MV.
To really understand what might be going on in this MV you pretty much have to pause the MV at every scene and really analyze what is happening in each frame. And, although I have watched this MV numerous times, because it is so complex, I still have no idea what most of the MV is trying to tell us.
But as you can see, everything that EXO does is connected. And the story continues in every MV. But what makes their storyline even more complicated is that nothing is in chronological order, so you really have to pay attention to even the most minute details to figure out where each MV or each scene within an MV might fit within EXO's larger storyline.

And the storyline even continues with the choreography. If you watch their dance practice video or a live performance, you might notice that there are several dance moves where it could be interpreted as some of the members using their powers. For example, D.O. waves his arms and the rest of the membres are pulled toward him or pushes away from him. D.O. has the power of earth/force which gives him strength. I also see the gliding movements to represent how the members are traveling across time and place as they fight to regain control from the Red Force, etc.
"Love Me Right" was released in June 2015 -- Kris and Luhan left the group in 2014 and Tao left around April 2015 -- so this was the first MV where there are 9 members. From now on, if you are going in order of release date, you will see 9, 8 or 6 members depending on how recent the MV is.
You should also see "Love Me Right" live to really appreciate the choreography. Check out a comeback stage or one of their live concert videos, even if it's just on your own time. :D

As you discovered, the performance version of EXO's "Growl" is a one take video, which means that it was shot all in one take without any cuts or edits. However, although it is a one take video, this doesn't mean they used the very first take, it just means that every time anyone made a mistake they had to start all over again from the very beginning. While filming the one take MV they had to dance the choreography about 7 times and this was the take the director and producer decided to use. They actually danced this choreography until they physically could not do it anymore. But, if you notice, not even this take was technically "perfect" because Kai drops the hat in the middle of the dance in the Korean version and he smoothly bends down and picks it up. He needed the hat at the end. But because it was done so effortlessly that most people don't even notice the mistake, or assume it's just part of the choreography, they decided to use this footage anyway.
And if you watch the Mandarin version, if you look closely, you will see Suho steps on Sehun's foot. :D.
In the beginning of the performance MV you start out by seeing 6 of the members and as the camera spins around you see the other 6 members -- There are 6 members that make up EXO-K and 6 members that make up EXO-M and when they come together they are 12 that make up one group as EXO. In the Korean version, you see the EXO-K (Korean) members featured first in the two groups. and if you watch the EXO-M (Mandarin Chinese) version, you will see the EXO-M members featured more prominently.
In the beginning how EXO was designed was that for every member in EXO-K there is a member in EXO-M that fills the same role. Each member in EXO-K has a counterpart in EXO-M. For example, D.O. is the main vocalist in EXO-K and Chen is the main vocalist in EXO-M; Baekhyun is the other main vocalist in K and Luhan was the other main vocalist in M; Chanyeol is the main rapper in K and Kris was the main rapper in M; Sehun is the lead rapper in K and Xiumin is the lead rapper in M; Kai is the main dancer in K and Lay is the main dancer in M; and then it's Suho is a lead vocalist in K and Tao was a rapper/vocalist in M (I'm not sure how these two really work together because Tao is more of a rapper and Suho is a vocalist, but because they are the last two they are put together.)
That's why it's worth watching both versions, because, as you will discover, there is far more than just the languages that are different. ;D
However, what is even more impressive about "Growl", is the fact that they filmed 4 versions of the "Growl" MV, so not only did they have to perfect the dance in the Korean performance version, but they also had to do it again in the Mandarin version and then again in both the 2nd MV versions. And it wasn't like they could use the same footage because the Korean and Mandarin versions aren't exactly the same -- the EXO-M and EXO-K members had different parts in each of the MVs -- so that just adds another element to this.
EXO actually filmed 5 different videos for the song "Growl." There is still one more video that was released as part of their "Wolf" and "Growl" promotions. It's a drama version that combines their two songs "Growl" and "Wolf" and it's like a mini K-drama that is more like a movie or TV show with a complete story and the members playing characters. Here is a link to the full "Growl" and "Wolf" drama version ua-cam.com/video/sFCvZUSnuus/v-deo.html. Plus, there are several iconic live performances of "Growl" as well.

If you notice, the camera movements are actually part of the choreography, because the camera is another character in the performance. The camera is supposed to represent the girl that they are singing to. So that is why they are looking at the camera so intensely because they are trying to get the girl's attention. They are each trying to impress her with their moves.
If you look up the lyrics for "Growl," you will see they are pretty much acting like a wolf or beast, that can no longer control themselves around the girl and they are warning her to be careful because all she does is make them want to growl and grab her and possess her, etc. "I’m warning you just in case (listen carefully)
It’s dangerous now (so dangerous) Stop provoking me (there’s going to be trouble) I don’t even know myself ... My breath keeps on stopping You walk towards me You smile at me Maybe you’re attracted to me too .... A dark shadow has woken up inside of me Sparks fly in my eyes as I look at you
Everyone step away from her (step away) It’s going to get fierce from now on I’m growling, growling, growling I’m growling, growling, growling I’m growling, growling, growling If you don’t back away then I don’t care if you get hurt ..." etc.
Some say the "girl" that EXO is always singing about and you sometimes see in their MVs is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life and that is why the members are always rescuing or protecting the girl, etc. And why all their songs are about being in love with a girl or being controlled by the power of the girl, such as in "Overdose" for example. Or how they talk about knowing they are bad news for the girl but they want her anyway and they can't help it, but in the end they know they might destroy her -- as they say in "Monster," etc. etc. When you think of the girl as the heart of the Tree of Life the mystery begins to unfold even more.

EXO got so good at this choreography that they were able to perform the whole thing live on award shows and music programs just like they did in the MV while singing live as well. You should check out their Beauty and Beast performance at the 2013 MAMA Awards to see how impressive they perform "Growl" live. ua-cam.com/video/ycql_T6Fc9c/v-deo.html
"Growl" and this one take performance is what launched EXO into super stardom and it's what made them the most popular group in Korea. It's one of the reasons why the government has given EXO the title of Korea's national Idols.
However, "Growl" came out in 2013 about a year after EXO debuted, and up until that point EXO weren't very well known or popular. When they first debuted, many people called them "SM's biggest mistake." Because the concept of them being aliens from Planet Exo and the fact that they were designed specifically to debut in both Korea and China and several foreign Chinese members were chosen specifically to make up their own sub-unit, etc. many people had a hard time understanding how EXO would ever be successful. The group started out being branded as SM's first failure, and they thought Lee SooMan (the founder of SM) was crazy for coming up with the group.
But when the one take video for "Growl" was released, everyone began to take notice. This video was pretty groundbreaking, no group had done a one take video quite like this and it proved to the mainstream audiences that SM really did know what they were doing. Now everyone in Korea and around the world knows EXO and they have become one of the most popular groups that are one of the biggest money-makers for SM. "Growl" has become what they are most known for. EXO even performed this song at the closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in 2018.

It was also considered as a flop comeback because a lot of people actually hate that song (and I don't know why bec. I actually love it). But their next comeback (Growl) is what actually made them really popular because it became a hit and even considered as Korea's National Anthem bec. everyone knows the song.

"Wolf" was EXO's first comeback since their debut promotions and it came our in May 2013 as part of their XOXO album. "Wolf" was another one of EXO's songs that the mainstream public thought SM was making an even bigger mistake with. It was a song and concept that was too unique for most mainstream listeners when it first came out, and most people didn't really like the song or the MV. However, as many have discovered, it's one of those songs that once you listen to it more, it grows on you, and now it has become much more popular.
So what you see in their "Wolf" MV is that all 12 members come together to form the Tree of Life and in the middle of the song you see how they split up into EXO-K and EXO-M and each group creates their own tree. How I interpenetrate that is they are showing how the tree has now been split in half and each half of the tree represents the two halves of EXO. In the intro to "Mama" they talk about how the Tree of Life has been split in two and each half has been hidden away. It's EXO's job to find the two halves of the Tree of Life and reunite them to restore peace in the world.
When EXO had 12 members they were both involved in both versions of their MVs. However, the EXO-K members were featured more prominently in the EXO-K versions and they were the ones that sang the main parts of the songs, but if you watch the EXO-M versions you will see that the EXO-M members are the ones highlighted in the MV and EXO-M sings the main parts of the song. That is why you need to watch both versions. EXO's slogan is "We are One" which means they are one as a group and one with their fans, so even when they had separate sub-units they were meant to be one group.
You should also check out the EXO-M (Mandarin Chinese) version of their "Wolf" MV to see what the song sounds like in Mandarin and to discover how the MV is slightly different.
In "Wolf" the members are also supposed to be a wolf pack So the entire MV and the song is them acting like wolves. The choreography was created to use movements that made them seem like wolves, and the moves, such as them showing their claws and bristling their backs and shaking are all things that wolves do as they compete for power and attention, etc.The wolf comes out of the forest (as he scratches the ground behind the Tree of Life) in the beginning of the MV and he is stalking his prey Their prey is the girl that, in the song, they are talking about being so obsessed with and in love with that they can't help but act like a wolf and capture her so that no one else can have her, etc.
I'm not sure how this concept was supposed to fit into EXO's larger storyline, but many feel that after the 3 Chinese members -- Kris, Luhan and Tao -- left the group that the wolf part of the story was completely dropped and it is no longer part of EXO's story. So we just watch it as a fun side story now instead.
In EXO's songs and MVs it is often thought that the girl that EXO sings about is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life. So, that is why EXO becomes so enamored by her and so possessive and protective of her, etc. Protecting the heart of the Tree of Life -- or "the girl" -- is what EXO has been sent to Earth to do.
If you look up the lyrics of the song you will see that the lyrics are also about being a wolf. The main point of the song is they are saying, I'm a wolf, I'm a wolf and I love you so fiercely that I am going to capture you and possess you and devour you like the wolf that I am.
If you are impressed with their vocals in the MV, just wait until you see the live concert remix performance of the song. You will be even more blown away when you hear what they can do live.
"Wolf" and "Growl" are partner songs. "Growl" was the follow up song to "Wolf. ""Growl" was the lead track on the XOXO repackaged album which came out in August 2013. So, now that you have heard both "Wolf" and 'Growl," you should check out EXO's "Growl"/"Wolf" Drama video. The drama version combines their two songs "Growl" and "Wolf" and it's like a mini K-drama that is more like a movie or TV show with a complete story and the members playing characters. Here is a link to the full "Growl"/"Wolf" drama version ua-cam.com/video/sFCvZUSnuus/v-deo.html. It's less then 10 minutes long, but it tells an interesting story.
It also might help to explain more of the story in their "Wolf" MV, however, as I said, I'm not sure the story goes any further than being mostly just a fun side story now. in EXO's history of MVs.

This 3 song has a special space in our EXOLs heart 🥰🥰
    Exo k -6
    Exo m -6
    Exo 9
Its just exo k is more popular this days bcoz a lot of chinese songs have been blocked by y.t
But exo m(chinese) is also good to listened specially luhans voice.. but its okay either exo k/m or just exo i really enjoyed it
Wolf remix live in japan is more different(out of this world performance like Eldorado)

The language EXO K version is sung in Korean and EXO M is sung in Mandarin. Both groups appear together in most of the MV’s. the vocal leads, choreography and outfits will be different in each version.

Growl is the song that built SM Entertainment building and made them rich. It’s the national anthem of South Korea! Its the first song to sell a million copies in20 years! This is when EXO became famous. Before Growl they said EXO was a flop group (last laugh 🤣😂😂😄) It’s said if you are in South Korea and you don’t know EXO “ Growl” you are a spy😄

EXO is no longer the number 1 K-Pop group in the world but they have proven their quality, so many new fans are still able to compete with more active groups, and besides that each member has all the talents

For title tracks, all of them will be there on both Korean and Mandarin versions. For the side tracks, the 6 members of each group will participate. EXO-K side tracks will be sang by Suho, Baek, Chanyeol, D.O, Kai, and Sehun and EXO-M side tracks will be sang by Kris, Luhan, Xiumin, Lay, Chen, and Tao. All same songs, just different versions. That's their format until Overdose i think.

SM was being overly ambitious trying to shoot two different videos for each song. In this video any time you see only six on stage it’s the EXO-K members and vice versa for the Chinese version. This one features EXO-K members in the lead vocal & rap parts…the other features EXO-M members. All members did the chorus in both versions. Yes it’s confusing. And kind of fun.

It’s worth checking out the Chinese versions of their later videos. Lay, Xiumin & Tao’s parts are beefed up in Call Me Baby for example. And in Tempo you see Lay a bit more and he even gets a (short) verse

They were more puppies than wolf in this. 😂Only Tao and Kris really sold the concept for me tbh. Wolf is all over the place but I enjoy it (especially the vocals) Also the choreo is still one of my favorites, I think it’s really cool looking.
