I would like to point out that Wright seems like a dynamic athlete. He seems very strong and has a lot of potential to become very explosive, kind of like Draisaitl. In saying this, I am not comparing them as players, but as athletes. Giving that he might have that type of athletic upside, to go along with his sky high hockey IQ, I think people might be underrating his future abilities right now. I think he's got a lot he can work on, but in a few years time he's going to be a no brainer top 10 centre in the NHL. 40 goal potential to go along with amazing defensive instincts. Won't be flashy unless he starts laying the body more / driving wide with the puck once he works on his speed, but nonetheless incredibly effective.
It seems to me that Wright and Michkov are similar in some ways. Both dominate the game from a mental standpoint and it makes up for what they may lack in dynamic skating ability. It seems that Wright is more polished defensively but Michkov seems to have the greater flair of creativity/skill.
Interesting comparison. I haven't watched Michkov much but I know he's quite dynamic. Does Wright need to improve his skating? By all accounts, Shane Wright plays a similar game to Nick Suzuki and as a Habs fan, I'm fine with that.
How? Josh Norris is a good sniper who has a really good shot but is not close to elite defensivelythe way Wright is.Norris plays a very different type of game. He is a Power play specialist who is focused on offence. Wright is much more of a 200 foot player. They are not even close in playing style.
I’m not sure if Wright has the super high upside of guys like Matthews and Mackinnon but I think he will be a surefire 55-75 point player, he’s definitely not gonna be the next Yakupov. I think if your team drafts him you’re hoping he’s gonna be similar to Bergeron or Toews. And it might not be a bad idea to let him play another year in the OHL.
@@jasoncoladonato1034 If they provide elite defense and still produce at a good rate sure you do. Not saying he does right now, but he seems to have the smarts and tools to be entirely capable of this.
MSL is not going to split up Caufield and Suzuki. They have great chemistry on the ice and they are good friends off the ice. Unless something unforeseen happens, we can pencil Caufield and Suzuki on a line together for next several years.
Hes gonna need elite puckhandling wingers to maximize his strenghts. Guys like Bergeron and Toews can count on Marchand, Pastrnak and Kane (and Debrincat or Panarin), but theyre not players who can do it all by themselves like Mcdavid, Crosby or Mckinnon. I think thats what people expected at first given his exceptionnal status so now it feels like he is disappointing, but its just not his playstyle. As a habs fan Im worried that we cant surround him with fast, skilled wingers and fans will turn on him cause he cant make a guy like Gallagher a 40 goal scorer.
Agreed on that Habs need a very good and solid winger or two for him and Suzuki but it's a great starting point. Wonder if Drouin would fit with Wright, for some reason I could see that happening better than with Suzuki. Not sure why a playmaker like Drouin don't work with CC and Suz, might be defensively play is a bit sloppy from Suz and Wright already looks more stable in that area. Just a few thoughts.
There is a fine line between the top 3 so a best case scenario would be for the Yotes to send their third pick plus next year's first pick to the Habs for Wright, as the Yotes desperately want him would be great trade for Habs.
@@davidst-louis8315 is Nick Suzuki a good comparaison ? , skating seems to be the same, not whats separates them, and their smarts hockey iq how fast they think the game seem to separate them from others , Suzuki is not the flashiest also
2nd in scoring during the regular season. 3rd in team scoring in the playoffs. What about Edmond and his 113 points season? What about Arcuri and his 19 points playoffs? Meanwhile, Slafkovsky led the Slovak national team to a bronze at the Olympics, then a strong performance at the WC (not the junior ones) while being his team's top scorer each times. Who's carrying his team again? 😆
Of course for highlights he's good, but choose a shift by shift for the real story. We can see the package, but not the effort, he's not doing investments by doing more with less effort in a stock market, he's playing a team sport and if he's a team leader, his team will do the same thing without his package. To success he'll need to be hard drilled by a coaching staff to get more involved in the play. An IQ guy like him should be everywhere on the ice, its what everyone wants. He skates too large, its good for sliding but cannot accelerate out of pressure quickly, this will be a real problem in the NHL cause the pressure is coming fast at you. I can see Tom Wilson get at him every shift against WAS. He did not improve his skating since Don Mills, so Wright is a project and a first overall can't be a project. The better service to protect the kids from all the pressure that come for a first overall, scouting service should start to downgrade him NOW to protect the kid, this would be a responsible conduct from your part.
Wright does lack effort. It's not concerning. Players who care about the defensive game like him almost always improve their motor. The game is played away from the puck, not running around trying to get it. Wright understands how to influence its flow with his movements, how to get pucks without having to chase them, and how to support teammates. This is more valuable to a team than a player who only pressures and works hard. Defence is positioning AND effort, but the first one is more important. Overaggressiveness kills offensive and defensive plays. Think about the Selke candidates, Patrice Bergeron and Mark Stone. They aren't high-energy players, but they're captains because they play the game the right way. It's their awareness and anticipation that make them great. What you think Wright lacks, he will develop. What he has, few will develop. He's not the uncontested number one overall pick in this draft, and I think some people are getting overexcited about his upside, but he is probably the most projectable and best player in the 2022 class. This is not really a highlight reel video, but I also have a shift-by-shift breakdown of one of his games on this channel if you want to watch it.
