Why are we Nigerians diaspora calling it a tip for checking your passport and actually the official doing their job. It's called bribery and it's illegal. Having travelled to Nigeria on many occasions I refuse to bribe/tip any official for doing their job. When asked by any official if I have anything for them (with that look in their eye) I simply ask them to repeat it again and they simply ask in a loud voice so others can hear " are you asking for a bribe " everytime I have said those words the official simply hands over my documents and ask me to move on with my journey. Especially as they don't want to be investigated and potentially lose their job. Having travelled extensively around the world Nigeria is only country I'm familiar with, where it seems common practice. And we wonder why foreigners don't like to holiday in Nigeria. It shows Nigeria in a bad light, if your first experience as a traveller when you land in a country is to be asked for a bribe/tip. Please let's stop this bad practice as it enables them to continue this illegal practice. This is not a rant please.
This comment really made me laugh!!! It is soo accurate. The "Oga, what did you bring for us?" line is well worn but I can't believe people still pay them. You're right of course, to pay them is to encourage them!
Yeah, when asked I say no sorry I don't have anything on me. They simply say 'okay then, enjoy your stay'. This was in Abuja airport this Sunday gone though, not Lagos. I got to Abuja from London and was unable to get the QR code before boarding as there was a glitch on the site, but upon arrival a member of staff just registered me manually and never asked for a dime. He also waived me having to pay for the PCR tests there and then, he just said it's okay just take the paper show it to them at the exit and go. Pay at the clinic when you go.It was not stressful at all and rarely is at Abuja airport to be honest, except the taxi people competing with each other for the rides into the city.
I just came back from Lagos and didn't have any issues. I was so nervous because Lagos airport has a bad reputation. Make sure you have all your paperwork so you don't give them any reason to mess with you. Go in there confident and don't look intimidated. If people offer to help you just ignore them. Don't even tell them no because they will keep trying.
Each time I go , there is always that bunch that argue and the white man( German) looking at us funny but who can blame them if we can't be respectful and civil around ourselves?! Very sad 😔
Isn't it amazing how you narrate everything without bringing yourself down because what many don't realise is that people will treat you however you precent yourself if you bring your country down for people to see you're automatically teaching them how to treat you poorly' you're raised well my brother.
Interesting. The funny thing is when I've landed in the past recent months, the Nigerians on the plane were very relaxed calm, so I guess it all depends on the individuals. I was actually surprised. As for the tipping or (the ask for money), I agree with Bayo, folks, please stop giving these folks money, it encourages this behaviour, and let's be honest most of these individuals are just distractions from your main goal of leaving the airport. Lastly it is sometimes very hard differentiating between the airport officials, and the hustlers. So if you think you are tipping an airport official, you might be actually tipping a hustler who has been allowed by the officials to operate.
Thank you so much! My best friend is traveling for the winter and invited me to go with her. I've heard some not so great things about foreigners traveling to Nigeria. I have been nervous about it and hesitated on saying yes but your videos have been so informative and real, that I feel much more calmer and confident going.
Hi Abayo! Thank you for the insight and information about going through the Lagos Airport, I am leaving in the next few days to stay at Lagos, first trip👍
Hi, I have recently started watching your videos on Nigeria, which is God sent. In the near future I plan to travel to Nigeria, and I have so many questions, half of which you addressed in your videos, thank you again for being so genuine and informative in your delivery. I am a Jamaican, living in the US, and I see so many similarities between the Jamaican and Nigerian culture which have propelled me to explore more of the culture and the reason for the visit. Your videos seemed to be geared towards returning residents or for individuals who have some form of connection to Nigeria. If possible, can you please compile a video for an individual who has never experienced Nigeria, in regards to the healthcare sector, where to stay, day/night activities etc. I will definitely link you for that Uber driver. Thank you again for your time and effort in creating these videos. Blessings!!!

A tip for you all. For less money, you can fly to Abuja airport which on average, takes about 15 minutes from the plane to baggage claim. Then you can walk over to the domestic airport which is more or less in the same building, and board a flight to Lagos. Generally, flights to Abuja from the UK are $100-$200 cheaper, then the flight to Lagos from Abuja is about $70-1$100. FYI, Abuja's corruption is minimal as it's the capital city.
@@thenigeriannomad Its not unlike travelling within the US. The Abuja-Lagos route is popular so there are loads of flights. Once you arrive in Lagos, you just grab your stuff and bounce.

The Lagos airport is a no-no for me, I have had to use that airport once when I travel to the US, but the experience was not worth it. The international airport in Abuja is way better.
@@didi7680 Well, i leave in Abuja, i decided to use the Lagos airport because international flight tickets from lagos are way cheaper. Apparently it aint worth the stress.

On passport checking, Nigeria is still a military state, one officer is immigration man, while other is SSS officer, checking for the names of the 'enemies' of the Govt arriving in the country. Quite ridiculous.
Fantastic information Bayo, thank you so much! Any advice on how much money to travel with dollar wise. I noticed you exchanged $30 at the airport. I have heard they low ball you on the exchange rate at the Airport and it's better to do it in the mainland. I guess I should ask, why the airport?
You are very welcome! and i think a few $100 should get you by for a week or so till you get settled. and yes they do low ball you. you pay for the convenience but honestly. it it isnt that much. Less than a dollar is what i missed out on. ha. . it matters more when you are exchanging a huge sum of money. I changed at the airport because i didn't want to stop to do anything outside but go straight to my driver. I also needed cash to buy some snacks and food on the way.

Could you please do an update since it's been a year since this video? I am planning to fly to Lagos in Oct. Are they still checking for Covid? 7 day test? What is a good answer when they ask for a tip for checking your passport? Could you explain more about using my phone when I get to the airport? So, from the time the plane lands until you can get to the person who is picking you up (with one checked bag) would be like an hour and a half?
I want to visit Lagos so bad!!! This would be my first visit to Africa. However, people discourage me from traveling to Nigeria. I’ve traveled to India alone. So, with proper planning, I believe I can do it. What do you think? Btw, thank you for this info!!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Hello, how are you? I'm Spanish living in the UK. I'm going to travel to Nigeria for the first time at the end of June or beginning of July to visit my fiancé. I'm a little worried about the whole airport process tbh. And above all, what should I do? What to do if they tell me that I can only stay 1 month when my visa says 90 days or if they tell me that I can only stay 2 weeks when I have a 1-month round trip ticket? What do you advise me? Could you give me the contact details of the Uber driver and recommend a hotel (in case something bad happens). They have recommended me not to change money at the airport. I see that you didn't have any problem. I don't know anyone in Nigeria, only my partner. Many thanks in advance Kind regards

@Bayo, when are you coming to Abuja????? You will see just how different the place is generally. It's such a contrast.
this upcoming month for sure.
Thanks Bayo. Ok o Bayo stay to your promise o, that you can help to get ride in Naija. I will definitely get in touch with you o.🤣 This information makes me restful enough thanks 💕
Whatsapp me on +2349157402945 whenever you need a trustworthy driver to pick you up at the airport! I've got a few trusted drivers. I hope this helps?
Thanks
Thanks this right on time. I am going in December
perfect
Your first video that I will watch is this that I really need as am planning to go back to 9ja next year after a very long time and I also have to dot down some points, just wanna ask do u order for the bolt when u get to the airport, was it the app you have been using abroad no need to download another bolt app in Nigeria maybe by the airport and once again thanks so much for this video
The Lagos airport is a no-no for me, I have had to use that airport once when I travel to the US, but the experience was not worth it. The international airport in Abuja is way better.
But how far is that airport by car from Lagos?
@@didi7680 Well, i leave in Abuja, i decided to use the Lagos airport because international flight tickets from lagos are way cheaper. Apparently it aint worth the stress.
Nice one ! Thanks for sharing 🙏
Thanks for watching!
great and helpful advice
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for sharing Bayo. Hope you’re enjoying your stay. Our people with all their arguments, even coming from abroad they still show who they are.
Btw- Any good airbnb you can recommend in Lekki area that is located in a very Secured and Safe Gated Estate?
yes plenty! Check out my airbnb in lagos playlist. I also plan to acquire 6 - 10 of them soon!
On passport checking, Nigeria is still a military state, one officer is immigration man, while other is SSS officer, checking for the names of the 'enemies' of the Govt arriving in the country. Quite ridiculous.
It bothers me every time so i finally had to just ask for explanation. yes ooh!
Great Tips!
thanks
Awesome video my man! You just earned yourself a new subscriber. Nigeria really isnt a real place. We’re a dynamic breed for sure.
Thank you so much! and haha. we are out of this world literally.lol
Thnx for sharing your experience with us. It was informative. Would love to have the Uber guy’s contact if you don’t mind. You gained a subscriber today. Thnx.
Thank you :)
id love to know what everyone on the plane was yelling about, ive never heard anyone yelling at a plane about anything, are they afraid of their possesions, is it usally problems? it is an advantage to get off the plane first? what is it
Really useful information thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I definitely will get with you when I need an uber
oh no, not with me. just use the app
Nice video. But it seems that you use Turkish airlines to Lagos and you arrived in the morning to Lagos?
I loved your video but I don’t know if I could take the airport harassment. You are very good. I love to travel but know have difficulty walking, how do the handle wheelchair travelers? 👍🏼
I think they are friendly towards wheelchair travelers. it is just part of the game for now.
Awesome information thanks a lot🌹🌹🌹
youre welcome
Whoa 😳 I pray 🙏 this is not on my flight next month to Nigeria. The fussing will have me a nervous wreck 😰… 😭😭😭😭
lol. you just tune out and stay calm.
Please what airline was that? I’ve never experienced anything like that ever! Ghana must go that big in the main cabin? Anyway I fly economy comfort. There’s usually no stress there.
Could you please do an update since it's been a year since this video? I am planning to fly to Lagos in Oct. Are they still checking for Covid? 7 day test? What is a good answer when they ask for a tip for checking your passport? Could you explain more about using my phone when I get to the airport? So, from the time the plane lands until you can get to the person who is picking you up (with one checked bag) would be like an hour and a half?
poker face don't answer
It's over one year. Sure there may have been changes especially with the covid screen. Any updates?
I want to visit Lagos so bad!!! This would be my first visit to Africa. However, people discourage me from traveling to Nigeria. I’ve traveled to India alone. So, with proper planning, I believe I can do it. What do you think? Btw, thank you for this info!!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Wish you could go with me I am going in september alone
@@martiroy1769 o really???
Yes ma’am my family tells me same thing but going to do it
@@martiroy1769 I can understand…..just be vigilant.
Hi, when are thinking of traveling to Nigeria?
NAIJA EXPERIENCE STARTS WHEN YOU LAND DURING THE AIRCRAFT DISEMBARKATION😀
Bwahahahaha. right from boarding the plane paa paa.
Thanks for this , very informative!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video.
❤❤❤
Many thanks in advance
Kind regards
nice
Thanks for your tips.. just wondering if it would be the same as Abuja International Airport as well?
Abuja is zero trouble
I think so!
Hi😄 Planning a trip to Nigeria sometime this year for the FiRST time. I’m nervous 😊Please explain time difference from the US to Nigeria when flying there and back, thanks in advance.
Hi Aide - Hello. Welcome. I would recommend using google for this. it depends on which area of the US you are residing.
Thank you kindly for replying! I will do as you suggest. Your videos are helpful by all means! I see you visited Manhattan KS a few years ago😀 Have you flown to Abuja?
ITS THE GHANA MUST GO HAND LUGGAGE FOR ME....
