    Awesome watering system! When I win the lottery I will buy a hoselink so I can stop dragging a hose around my yard! I love my alone time watering the plants in my yard. I really get to see how they grow and what they need.

    Hand watering is super efficient. I hand water as well, but I have to be careful with top-watering my Zinnias. The other plants do not seem to mind at all.

    How inspiring to know this extra difficulty you have overcome, instead of just giving up on that area. We get all of our water from a shallow well buried in a small stream on our property. We have years where we don't have enough water and last year was the worst drought and hottest weather we've had in the 40 years we've lived here! Thankfully, my husband was able to get the supplemental irrigation cistern, which he and some friends dug able 25 years ago, up and running so we could keep our flower farm going. It was extremely time consuming to fill our upper well several times a day, in order to water everything, but we did it!

    You could put out soaker hoses to get more directly to roots. Can allow for reliability. Could even use a solar bluetooth hose controller too if you needed more automation.

    Why don't you use the fleece to cover the plants to protect them against the sun? (the white fleece you used in the hoop house when it was cold) I always put some hoops and cloth over my veggies when it's very sunny and dry. Works great.

    Water issues have become a major problem for so many farmers. Your dahlias will need plenty of water, so if you have a dry summer, you'll see different dahlia results than last summer. You can't control the weather and farming is highly affected by different weather trends! Best wishes for good farming weather this season. ☔️🌈🌷🥰

    Thank you for sharing the way you water.
    I too am water impaired and use almost the same system. My main is from a creek to a tote via a ram pump. Then from one tote to another via the 12 volt pump due to elevation change. Then highest tote to garden again via 12 volt.
    Major hassle for sure but wells in this area are about 35 dollars per foot and average 400 feet deep.
    Good luck this summer. Baby steps it is.

    If you water them in the evening the water will have more time to soak in before evaporating.

    • @mariafolch8067
      @mariafolch8067 2 роки тому

      🍃Morning watering is actually preferable to evening watering as the plant has time to dry before the sun goes down. At night, water tends to rest in the soil, around the roots, and on the foliage, which encourages rot, fungal growth, and insects.🍃

    That is such a great watering system to have! Thanks for sharing. It is nice to see someone else water without drip irrigation. We watered our whole garden last year with two rain barrels and a bucket haha. Where do you source your bio film?

  • @ElderandOakFarm
    @ElderandOakFarm 2 роки тому

    We get an average of 70" of rainfall per year so I Don't really need drip for watering exactly but I need it for watering everything when They are just 1st getting established. As you know when you plant a seedling it only has a small little root ball at the top of the Soil level and it dries out quickly. And I only have a couple hours each day to get things done and last year- the time it took me to unravel the hose and drag it down to the cut flower garden, then roll it back up each day- I said I'm not doing this next year! Lol. I went The landscape fabric because I was afraid that the bio 360 would get too many rips And tears in it from the stray cat dogs and rabbits and things things that walk around my garden at night... but i wish I wouldn't have thought about the fact the bio 360 Prevent some of the water from getting to your plants when there is too much rain because that is definitely an issue I have With all of the rain that we get.

    Works great, i just used my mulch layer for the first time, planted the first veggies and now i have to plant the flowers. I use drip tape and just found a local warehouse with overstock drip tape for ½ price on 10,000' roll.
    Makes it very easy to water.

    Hi Nicole, yes it has been a crazy year already! I am in the Finger Lakes and Saturday we had a frost warning and Sunday began the dry spell! So I have also had to water early this year! We can water the gardens with 2 very heavy 100 foot hoses combined, from our spring fed well. I don’t love watering this early but like you because the Spring was fairly wet before this the well is full! And thankfully the top of well water does not seem as hard as what will be available in the dog days of summer! I have never used a catchment system but as I know rain water is softer than well water I do think it would be worth the investment, of putting gutters on my barn! Lots of roof there! I hope we don’t have a hot summer! I’m definitely looking forward to seeing your Lisianthus bloom, I will be lucky to have mine out in the garden by the end of June! Thank you as you always give me so much to consider in my growing practices! Great video ❤️😊

    I'm curious if you are experiencing more wind than usual this season (I know it's windy on "the hill" there anyway). I'm south of you in Northern Jersey. The wind this year is exceptional/ remarkable. I'm concerned about the growing year with the wind and no barrier, especially with Lisianthus. It stunts the growth of a lot of flowers. There is already overall desiccation of top growth and extra watering is necessary. I mean seriously, it's like being at the ocean EVERY day, without the good part of being at the beach!

    So are snapdragons more of a cool weather flower or do you think they just couldn’t tolerate the sudden heat at the tender seedling stage? I’m in North Texas, zone 8A and I’m about to plant my snapdragons but I’m worried that I should have planted them earlier.

    How often do you water or average in summer ? We wanted to do drip system this year but not possible at moment. Drip is only in greenhouses. Flowers and other veggies - I thinking sprinklers. Or just try your method and not to buy sprinkles and save for drip system? Weather news says - hot and dry summer - so I don’t know 🤷‍♀️

    I love to water with the hose for the very same reasons you mentioned. You get to check in on every plant as you go along. For me- sometimes Raccoons knock pots over and or dig things up and by catching them in time, I most often can save them. Thats right Raccoons in the City of Denver. They use the Sewers as highways and check all of the yards at night for food. They are relentless. Plants are so needy! Bad enough that there is a "Special Bug" for each plant type!!! Amazing we can succeed at any of them! "GO GROWERS!" 🦝🪲🌡🌨🔬🚿☮🌷
